What is everyone doing for Valentines Day?

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive February 2004: What is everyone doing for Valentines Day?
By Insaneusmcwife on Sunday, February 8, 2004 - 10:58 pm:

I feel really guilty taking daddy away since he has been gone so much but we really need some one on one. This will be a 3 day weekend so I'm thinking it won't be too bad if we go out for a few hours. I'm not sure what to do though. It has been so long since we have done anything just the two of us. What are you and your Valentine doing?

By Bea on Sunday, February 8, 2004 - 11:33 pm:

We stay home for Valentines Day. All the restaurants are so crowded, and often offer limited menus. I'd rather go out Sunday night instead.

By Boxzgrl on Monday, February 9, 2004 - 12:09 am:

Hmmmm... as far as I know is that were going start the day by seeing an early movie, going on a gondola ride in newport beach at 5:30ish , out to dinner and staying at a 4 star hotel living it up. This is our first Valentines hes been home in 3 years so we have a lot planned. This is all I know but hes says theres more and its a big surprise!!

By Dawnk777 on Monday, February 9, 2004 - 12:12 am:

Probably nothing special! LOL!

By Brandy on Monday, February 9, 2004 - 07:29 am:

I'm going to my twin nieces birthday party from 2-4 pm and then i'm going to work.

By Tunnia on Monday, February 9, 2004 - 08:00 am:

We do two Valentines Days in our house. On actual Valentines Day we stay home and have a special candlelight dinner with the kids (they have chosen crab for Valentines dinner again this year). They really love being a part of Valentines Day and since the restaurants are always so busy it works out well for us to do it this way. Then the next weekend dh and I are going out to dinner and a movie without the kids for our own Valentines Day.:)

By Texannie on Monday, February 9, 2004 - 08:08 am:

We have a group of friends (4 couples) who get together for dinner every couple of months. We are going on. Not sure where yet, if we can't think of a place, they will just come over here and we will potluck it.

By Mommyathome on Monday, February 9, 2004 - 10:52 am:

We usually go out the day before Valentines or the day after. I don't like to get sitters on holidays. But this year my aunt and uncle called and said they will be in town on Valentines and want DH and I to go out to dinner with them that night. So, if we can find a sitter, and if I'm better from the surgery then we may go with them. I'd prefer to not spend Valentines day with anyone but DH and I and maybe the kids, but I guess just this once will be fine. As you can tell, I'm not that excited about it LOL

By Newbabysarah on Monday, February 9, 2004 - 10:59 am:

i dunno. hubby says he has some tricks up his sleeve:)

By Cat on Monday, February 9, 2004 - 11:23 am:

We're going to lay wood laminate in the kitchen. We did the entry way last weekend and it looked so good we're going to do the kitchen, too! We talked about going out, not for Valentine's Day, but our anniversary which is Monday the 16th. But I guess this will be our anniversary present to ourselves. Going out would be nice, but the floor will last longer! lol

By Dananivyboo1 on Monday, February 9, 2004 - 11:44 am:

We always do something with our son during the day. Go out to lunch, go to my mothers and give her her present. This year hubby and I gathered a group of our friends and we decided to go to a comedy club, which is right next door to a restaurant/lounge/club. So we are just going to hang out. Its hard for us all to get together. But none of us knew what to get our significant other this year. So it was best we all hang out and be kid free!! There are only about 3 couple out of 10 I believe with kids

By Cybermommyx4 on Monday, February 9, 2004 - 01:09 pm:

Our "Sweet Sixteenth" Anniversary is Friday, Feb. 13th, so we will be going out that night for a romantic dinner, etc. On Valentine's Day, we will pick up oldest DS from the airport 2 1/2 hours away (he is in Florida with his Grandmother for a week at Disney, etc.) and then I will have a nice dinner at home with the kids and give them their Valentine's gift bags (DH has to work Sat. night since he's taking Friday night off)...

By Debbie on Monday, February 9, 2004 - 01:19 pm:

Dh and I aren't doing anything special. Our anniversary was yesterday and we always do something special then. Unfortunately, we didn't have a babysitter this year since we just moved. So, we had to take the boys with us to our anniversary dinner. Dh talked to them before we went and said how special the night was. They were perfect angels at the restraunt.

On valentines, I will give the boys their valentine present and then we will have a family night at home. We will probably order pizza(the boys favorite) and watch a movie.

By Vicki on Monday, February 9, 2004 - 02:39 pm:

We are going to Vegas! We are leaving Thursday afternoon and coming home Monday. Dd has Friday and Monday off school and dh asked his mom to keep her and we are off!!

By Bellajoe on Monday, February 9, 2004 - 07:55 pm:

We aren't really into the whole Valentine's day thing. We usually just go out to dinner. I got the kids a little gift each, last year it was Care Bears, this year i just got them Playdoh it's cheap and they have a ball with it! We don't buy each other gifts, just dinner out. We probably won't go out ON Valentine's day because of the crowds though.

Vega's sounds like fun, Vicki. I've never been there, buy my dh has. That would be a fun thing to do on Valentin'es day.

By Babysitbarb on Monday, February 9, 2004 - 08:25 pm:

We usually make a big deal out of Valentine's since it's the day we got engaged and my oldest DD's birthday,She will be 15 this year.We will just go out to eat as a family and then she is going to a school dance later in the evening with her girl cousin, who's her best buddy. The youngest DD will have the cousin who's her age come and stay with her. This is usually what we do every year. We usually do a party every other year. We promised her a sweet sixten next year so we are off the hook for this year.

By Texannie on Monday, February 9, 2004 - 09:57 pm:

Vicki, I don't know what your budget is, but if you want a truly wonderful romantic dinner (on the expensive side) go to Drai's in the basement of the Barbary Coast. It is truly fantastic!

DH has to work ALL weekend long, so we'll do nothing. I'll probably spend the weekend readying the house for company we are having for Mardi Gras.

My Dad and his wife are coming to visit to finally exchange Christmas gifts! On Sunday I will probably cook a gourmet dinner with DH since we won't have a babysitter.

By Insaneusmcwife on Tuesday, February 10, 2004 - 10:28 am:

We have been here since July and Dh has not been home to expore the area and I have been too busy. He said he would like to go to the Olive Garden since we have not been to one in atleast 4 years. They were having a couples massage on Grounded for Life and it looked really good so I'm going to look into where we can get one of those. Ds went on a field trip to see a play and suggests that we go there (isnt that cute, I'm getting recomendations from a 6 year old :)), this is nothing that we have ever done before so it might be an option.

My ds was born on Valentine's Day a year ago so we're having a big one year birthday celebration at a restaurant. I'm Korean and the first year's birthday is a huge deal called the "dorl". We have a special table set up with ornaments and beautiful rice cakes. We also place on the table within the baby's reach, difference items and see which one the baby grabs first. For instance, if he grabs the notebook, it means he is destined to be a scholar. It's an ancient tradition that goes way back. Anyhow, I hope everyone has a special day with your ds and dks.

This is year is a special year. We will be celebrating the 40th anniversary of my parents. there anniversary is the 17th so we are suprising them with a big dinner a few days early. 40 years is pretty special.

By Tonya on Tuesday, February 10, 2004 - 05:46 pm:

We are moving my brother and his girlfriend into their new house then spending the evening at home and relaxing. That is the plan but hopefully Miss Jade will surprise us and come soon and maybe I will be in the hospital.

By Insaneusmcwife on Wednesday, February 11, 2004 - 12:39 am:

Well so much for the massage and the play. Everyone is booked solid. I even tried for a comedy club but the improv is booked too. But hey what did I expect it IS the 10th. It looks like Dinner and gift exchange.

By Pandamamaoo4 on Thursday, February 12, 2004 - 11:10 am:

We will be doing our valentine stuff on Friday. On Sat. DSLH and I will be working/vol. at the race in Daytona Bch( We were asked to do it on Sunday also but we said NO, that is the day we all sit ok try to sit and watch the race.... Hes a #6 fan and I'm a #24 and 48. We are suppost to be helping at a booth for Pop Warner ( I'm Team Mom for our DD4) to raise money for this year. Sounded like fun (its suppost to RAIN Hope NOT) but DD4 is NOT happy that we are doing it on VD...She only 9...Tried to explain to her but still NOT happy...I think she think we won't be home at all on the 14th...We have to leave early and won't be home till LATE!....She doesn't know her parents are going to celebrate it on the 13th instead of the 14th... I think that will help when she find out....
The kids will get a gift bag then we'll have a nice hopefully quiet dinner at home.
Happy Valentines Day to One & All

By Luvn29 on Thursday, February 12, 2004 - 11:52 am:

Oh what fun!!! That would be my family's dream Valentine's Day, working at the race! hehe! I know....we're insane!!! But all of us, including the kids (4 and 7) LOVE racing! One of these days, we WILL get down there for speedweeks! Probably dreamin' but oh well! hehe! Kevin Harvick, #29 is my and my dd's man, and Dale, Jr. is my DH and DS pick. We all like each other's as a close second though.

Not sure exactly what we are doing yet. Still figuring it out.

I know that we decided to stay home because of the crowds, and because I'm not feeling well right now, so I am going to cook a nice dinner for us, hopefully with chocolate fondue and some goodies for desert. We'll watch the race that day of course!!! We'll probably watch a movie, and just enjoy being together. We don't go all out on V-day, this is the first year we are actually "celebrating" it, but we have a little extra money this year and decided to spend a little on each other. We always get the kids a couple of things, usually a small gift and a box of candy. This year, DD is getting a notebook shaped like Kevin Harvick's car and a little #29 deskset. DS is getting a 1/24 scale Dale Jr. car. A cheapie one he can actually play with...

I'm so excited this year!!!

By Pandamamaoo4 on Wednesday, February 18, 2004 - 12:05 pm:
