Am I crazy or what?

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive February 2004: Am I crazy or what?

DD was sick last weekend and ruined her rug, bedspread and dust ruffle. I went looking for a new comforter or quilt today and decided I just don't like anything out there... I have an old quilt that has a beautiful purple in it, I think I am going to go buy paint tomorrow and re-paint her room to match the quilt. I just painted her room last year, it is a great yellow but it is a hard color to match. Am I crazy or what? Looks like her room is getting a makeover with paint instead of bedding!!!!! It's definitely cheaper!!

Sarah,

When we bought the house (almost 18 years ago) the woman that owned it for 9 years had a "purple" bedroom (purple shag carpet, but I love it, lol!) and a blue bedroom. Well we still have the purple carpet (glad we had girls) and 2 years ago when mom stayed with us I painted that room a light lime. I really like that room. I hated it when we first moved in but with girls it's really feminine.

Post a picture when you can, my scanner is not working:(

I'm into purple the last year or so......and I've always been a *blue* person. I painted our bedroom purple mauve and we love it. I'd love to see a pic also.

Yep, you're nuts! JK

A friend of mine bought a house in our hometown. It had belonged to our HS's superintendant. Upstairs there was a bedroom that had orange shag carpet and electric blue walls. My friend and her dh called it the "Pot Room". lol We really wondered what they were thinking with that combo of colors.

Good luck painting your dd's room. Our house still has the builder's flat off-white. We've been in it 1 1/2 years now. Maybe we'll paint some day. We'll probably move before that, though. :)

OK! I'm off to buy paint today. I talked to DH last night, he is out of town, and he just said "Whatever" I think he knows that until I'm happy with the room I will keep trying. Not to mention, it's me doing all of the painting so he doesn't have to deal with it...

We have been in our house not quite 2.5 years and have repainted every room in the house except the bathrooms. We love color and it is an explosion of color. Den and kitchen are 2 complementary shades of yellow; living room-medium gray; hall= lighter gray; study-burgandy; oldest DS' room-mossy green with one wall painted like a huge piece of abstract art; youngest DS' room painted a bright blue with one wall decoupauged in Spiderman comicbook pages; our bedroom ragrolled in 2 shades of a dusky blue. We just have the 2 bathrooms left. I love to paint and redecorate!!! Except for cabinets...ugh! The kitchen cabinets are next on my list and I have a lot of them. Try to post pics if you can.

I would have probably gone the paint route too. I usually end up spending so much time trying to find what I am looking for in the stores that I get nowhere. Now that I have a sewing machine though-I just go to the fabric store and make what I want! My DH sounds like yours-whatever I want as long as he doesn't have to help!

I suggest you just paint one wall the purple first, and see how you like it - maybe the wall at the head of the bed. If you find it OK, then go on to the rest, but if it is a bit overpowering, use a different color for the other walls.

I'm a little boring in the color department. I like off-white/creme walls with white crown and base molding.
I get my "color fix" with the furniture, bedding, draperies and framed pictures etc.
Unfortunately, the house we are living in at the moment has blue carpet. I hate it. The color of blue is pretty (kind of a dark creamy blue), but it is just too much for me. I would prefer creme carpet or hardwood LOL.

I am wondering what it would look like if you had 2 purple walls and 2 yellow walls? You could easily make some purple and yellow pillows to throw on the quilt....

Purple sounds pretty to me. Not crazy! Painting can be fun. :)

OK! Total change of plans. I found the same quilt she had (that I really loved) so I am just going to re-purchase that. I got to think about all the work painting and just decided that I would just stick with the same theme. I didn't want to have to buy new curtains and all that...
FALSE ALARM!
