What have you broken or had stitched?

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive February 2004: What have you broken or had stitched?
By Mommyathome on Thursday, February 5, 2004 - 05:40 pm:

I haven't ever had a broken bone (knock on wood!) And, I've never had stitches. Though on Tuesday, I will get my first set of stitches!

Oh wait...I had "baby stitches" after my kids were born. But, that's not what I'm talking about.

My oldest DD had 2 broken arms by the time she turned 3. I felt so bad for her because I didn't know the type of pain she was in. I had never BTDT. Hopefully I can keep it that way.

So, what have you had broken or stitched?

By Marg on Thursday, February 5, 2004 - 06:05 pm:

Had fractured skull age 10 but nothing ever "broken" Robin, I'm just clumsy;) LOL

By Dawnk777 on Thursday, February 5, 2004 - 06:06 pm:

Broke the tibia (larger bone in your lower leg)right near my ankle when I was 15, trying to be an Olympic skating star! LOL! Actually, I sprained the ankle, stayed off of it home from school for a few days, went to school on Friday and then to the basket ball game. At the basketball game, I heard the bone snap. I stayed off of it climbing down from the bleachers and still went to my friend's house for a planned sleepover and didn't tell my parents until the next morning.

What should have happened? My parents should have just taken me in for the sprained ankle right away when it happened, since I ended up in the ER anyway. They wanted to save the money. My own kid? I would take them in right away.

Stitches several times in various places on my head. I was a fearless kid and sometimes it got me into trouble.

Broken leg in first grade, fell off my bike.
Stitches in my chin, fell into a radiator when I was a kid.
10 stitches in my left palm, trying to open up can of dog food and my hand slipped, about ten years ago.

I have stitches several times. I almost cut my pointer finger off in a gym door when I was about 19 months old. My mom said you could see the bone. Thankfully I don't remember it. The doc stitched it up and said if the stitches didn't work they'd cut it off. I also had stitches several times in my head. I, too, was fearless and I had two big brothers to encourage me to do stupid things. :)

My first broken bone was when I was 8 months pregnant with my youngest. My oldest was headed for the street and I chased after him and stubbed my big toe on a landscape timbers, tripping and landing on my side on my neighbor's concrete driveway. I had the WORST braxton hicks contraction ever! Robin stopped and turned around to see why Mama was laying in the driveway! lol Anyway, by the time I hobbled around to the back yard where my neighbor and her son were my foot was purple and swollen. I propped it up on a chair and said, "What do ya think?" She said, "That's broke." I limped for about a month and it healed in time for me to have Randy. I think I've broken a couple other toes since, but I never went to the doc for them. Not like they can do anything anyway for toes--unless they require surgery. Oh, and I think the bone above my eye was broken when some little person's head hit it a couple years ago, but again, I never went to the doc. I just had a swollen, very colorful face for a few weeks. That was two years ago and there's still a little bump right under my eyebrow.

Robin broke his collar bone when he was three. He hasn't had stitches yet. Randy has been stitched, stapled and glued. lol He had stitches in his lip when he was 15 months, he had a staple in the back of his head when he was 3 1/2, and he had the durma-bond above his eye when he was 6. He moved a little when they were putting the durma-bond on and they ended up glueing his eye lashes shut on the outside of his eye! Poor kid couldn't open his eye all the way for about a week. Adventures in parenting... :)

I forgot about the stitches one, dog bit me in the face when I was 5 and sister threw a piece of wood at my head when I was about 7 (sisterly love)!

None of dds ever had stitches or broken bones.

Just stitches and staples when I had my c-section 3 years ago. then about 2 years ago I had some excess breast tissue removed from both arm pits and had stitches under each arm, and that's it.:)

Looks like I will have another C-Section when this baby is born so you can count the stitches and staples that I will have this summer. :)

By Mommmie on Thursday, February 5, 2004 - 11:30 pm:

Neither here. Nor for my son...yet.

By Colette on Friday, February 6, 2004 - 06:57 am:

No breaks yet, but stitches from 3 c-sections, tiny stitches from gall bladder surgery and tiny stitches from having a mole removed.

By Tunnia on Friday, February 6, 2004 - 08:13 am:

For me a broken left wrist when I was in second grade, broken tailbone when I was a senior in high school, stitches after oral surgery when I was a senior in highschool, and stitches after surgery on my left foot when my dd was 6 months old (not being able to walk for a week with a very mobile six month old was very tough!).

My dd just had the cast removed from her left wrist which she broke on Jan 2. She is in second grade - like mother, like daughter. LOL

Nothing for my ds yet, but I was sure that we would have had broken bones or stitches for him by now. I guess he has a really attentive guardian angel because he is a wild man and isn't afraid of anything.

No broken bones, thank goodness. Stitches and staples for 2 c-sections. Stitches when I had all four wisdom teeth out and two breast tumors removed. I think that's it.

By Fraggle on Friday, February 6, 2004 - 08:53 am:

No stitches caused by accidents or broken bones for me. Just the baby related stitches and for wisdom teeth.

By Pamt on Friday, February 6, 2004 - 08:59 am:

No broken bones although I REALLY wanted to break something as a child because I wanted a cast so bad :) Only stitches I had were episiotomy stitches, wisdom teeth removal, and stitches once for the removal of some large lymph nodes on my neck (benign) and a sebaceous cyst on the back of my neck. I can't believe that I have 2 sons and neither of them have ever had stitches or broken bones either!!!

Hey Marg, you think your accident prone? When I was 1 I broke my arm playing with the front door. When I was 5 I had to get stitches in my head because I was jumping on the bed and busted my head open on the head board. When I was 6 I had a cast a couple times, once from doign cart wheels in the house and busting my ankle on the coffe table, once from running/playig with really big dogs and getting knocked down, busting my ankle again. Same year I was in a car accident and had to have my splein removed so I got staples from that. When I was 8, the waser over flowed in the garage and as I was trying to kick water out of the garage I sliced my toe on a empty can of formula that was being used to store screws and bolts, got stitches for that. Same year, a boy at school was swinging his back pack around and it hit me right behind the ear and I had to get stitches for that. When I was 15 I was hiking and fell and sprang my wrist, just a brace for that. I did ok after that until the night I met dh, I got a broken nose that night. A few months after we got married I was doing dishes and one of the glasses broke and I almost sliced my pinky off, stitches for that one. Then I don't know if these count but I had 2 C-Sections and recieved staples for both of those. I think thats about it.

the only stitches iv ever had is from having my babies and never have broken any bones (knock on wood). It's probably because im not very athletic.

By Dananivyboo1 on Monday, February 9, 2004 - 11:51 am:

Colar bone when I was about 18 months old. The usual things that kids do, climbing out the crib.

My jaw was broken at the age of about 7-8. They never wired it shut cause I was too young but it healed ok. I still have some pain in the jaw but it may be there forever.

About the age of 6, I was picking on my younger brother. He hit me with one of those "play" irons for kids on my lip. He split my lip and I got about 5 stitches.

My pinky toe! Oh that hurt so bad. And about 2 weeks after it healed I had to get stiches on my big toe cause I was cleaning my moms coffee table and one of her porcelein things fell on my toe and cut it. (Age 13)
