Janet Jackson's apology...

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive February 2004: Janet Jackson's apology...
By Marg on Wednesday, February 4, 2004 - 02:03 pm:

Did you see this...

She apologized and stated "if I offended anyone."

OMG, I don't even know what to say about this. To me nudity on public television during family hour.

What are they thinking?

By Tonya on Wednesday, February 4, 2004 - 02:23 pm:

They said on one news channel that it wasn't suppose to be complete nudity as it was that she had a mesh net that was hooked to the under side of her shirt that was suppose to cover her breast but the mesh ripped off when the top part was ripped off. She said she had no intention fo showing her breat the mesh was suppose to be all you saw.

By Shellyg on Wednesday, February 4, 2004 - 02:23 pm:

O.K., is there anyone else who thinks "big deal it is just a boob." I think sexual re enacting positions are much more offensive than a boob.

By Bellajoe on Wednesday, February 4, 2004 - 02:53 pm:

I sort of agree with you Shelly. The way they were "dancing" together was more offensive to me then the boob. Plus, during the halftime show you barely saw the boob. Lucky for them the camera wasn't zoomed in on them at the moment the top was ripped off. My dh didn't even notice that this happened and he was watching it in the same room as me. If my kids had been awake and watching it they would not have noticed the fact that her shirt was ripped off, they would have seen the bumping and grinding that Justin and janet were doing. Thats what offended me. I'm just getting tired of hearing about this whole deal.

By Mommyathome on Wednesday, February 4, 2004 - 05:02 pm:

I think the whole half time show was ridiculous and the boob incident just topped it off. The whole thing, IMO, was completely unclassy and unnecessary. I hope that someone ends up paying for this nonsense big time....that is the only way to prevent it from happening again.

By Colette on Wednesday, February 4, 2004 - 05:19 pm:

ditto Robin.

By Bobbie on Wednesday, February 4, 2004 - 10:07 pm:

Agree with Robin...

They said on our local news last night that she bought he star nipple ring here...anyone want me to find out where? ;)

By Marg on Thursday, February 5, 2004 - 08:44 am:

LOL Annie, I'm sorry but wouldn't that hurt or be irritating?

By Texannie on Thursday, February 5, 2004 - 09:35 am:

hellifiknow! LOL

By Marg on Thursday, February 5, 2004 - 09:50 am:

Oh Annie, I'm laughing out loud! I suspect most of us "moms" do not have our nipples pierced, owwww, just thinking about it!

By Bea on Thursday, February 5, 2004 - 12:21 pm:

I'm sorry if this offends anyone. It's simply my opinion. I feel that discussing this event gives the perpetrators exactly what they wanted to achieve. If it was considered a NON EVENT maybe they wouldn't go to such sleazy lengths to get our attention. I turned off the half time show when I saw what it was going to be....a sexual innuendo from start to finish. It doesn't interest me, and I find the whole thing more than slightly tacky. When they are appealing to the lowest common denominator, I turn it off.

You know this whole thing with J.J. took SO much away from one of the BEST football games I think I have ever seen...Those football players all of them worked their butts off to play the most widely spread game of the season...I know I have seen more "pubilcity" on J.J. than the whole reason for her being there! A great football game!!!! I feel like the players were cut from what is usaully talked about forever, and it was throne over to J.J. JMHO

By Texannie on Thursday, February 5, 2004 - 01:17 pm:

I think it's interesting among the "hollywood and or sports set", the ones who aren't parents are saying "so what? what's the big deal?" and the ones who are parents are saying it was inappropriate.

By Bea on Thursday, February 5, 2004 - 01:31 pm:

I think that if parents were watching with their children, and didn't turn off the entire disgusting half time show, they had no one to blame except themselves, if their children saw nudity on the TV. I think the routine between Jackson and Timberlake was vile from start to finish. The flashing was only a small part of the provocative gestures and words on the screen. We’ve allowed this crudity to come in to our homes. It just keeps getting worse.

By Dawnk777 on Thursday, February 5, 2004 - 02:53 pm:

I'm glad I chose not to watch it in the first place! Those shows are never worth watching, so I didn't bother.

By Texannie on Thursday, February 5, 2004 - 03:35 pm:

Normally, I love the half time show, much better than the game! LOL My favorite year was Aerosmith, with InSync and Brittany Spears. Thought they all did a great job and no crotch grabbing.

By Feonad on Friday, February 6, 2004 - 08:12 am:

Oh it was an accident. That is a surprise. It is terrible that our culture encourages young female stars to look like hookers.

By Texannie on Friday, February 6, 2004 - 08:48 am:

On the news last night, they were showing a bra that she first tried on but it didn't fit
Quoting from the Houston Chroncile:

"Jackson's people also shopped at Montrose's Leather in Exile Friday and bought $800 in accessories, such as a riding crop, leather arm bands, a leather jockstrap for a dancer and a leather bra for Jackson, a manager said.

They returned the jock strap and the bra, which couldn't contain Jackson's breasts, he said.

"Out of the stuff they bought, they brought back the crazier stuff," he said.

Wardrobe malfunctions, perhaps? "

Some guy found out about it and it selling it on Ebay.

I think its really going over board. There are so many other things out there that should not be on TV and is. I dont know if anyone had watched the MTV awards are few years ago but LIL KIM although shes just a hooch in general had her entire boob out. Yes there was a pasty thing but still the ENTIRE boob was hanging out and they just showed close ups on her all night. She even announced an award with Diana Ross in which Diana touched and shook her boob. There are other things we need to protect our kids from watching and its our duty to do so.
