I am getting ready to redo my kid's rooms. Right now the walls are off white and the rug is dark green. I hate the carpet, I'd rather get the floors underneath refinished, but I am keeping it for now. So I need boy colors and girl colors that would look nice with dark green. Also looking for a nice quilt for ds's bed, I've found a lot of nice ones but they all have a flower pattern on them somewhere. I am probably going to add some painted furniture like tables and such in their rooms - think "shabby chic" or New England country style.

The beauty of dark green is it will go with most colors. You could always get an 8X10 rug to drop over it if the green color bothers you too much. My sons room is nascar and it has green in the theme. Shabby Chic makes me think of white that is worn or distressed. Target has great quilts for your daughters room that will look great with green and shabby chic.

Colette, I love the comforter sets in the JCPenney catalog. That's where we got all of my DK's. They are made very well and last a long time.
I think that Navy blue looks nice with the dark green.
I have a few ideas, but I'm wondering.....do your DS and DD share a room? If so, my ideas won't work LOL Let us know if it's one room or two :)

It's three rooms! They all have their own.

I love yellow with dark green! I vote on that for your dd!

Have you looked at Domestications.com or Brylane.com for bedding? They both have a lot to choose from. I have bought from Domestications several times, but not Brylane. My Mom has bought from both Domestications and Brylane and she was happy with them both.

I am trying to find a quilt rather than a comforter, I have not checked any of the catalogs you all mentioned but I will. Thanks!

When you mentioned the dark green carpet, I thought of grass, you could, paint blades of grass all around the bottom of the room, have a puppy's head sticking out of the grass, paint on a picket fence, blue sky, a tree in the corner, that spreads, on both walls, with red apples hanging on the branches. butterfly's floating by, you could also have two tree's on each corner, and get a hamic and put teddy bears in it. I am kind of winging it here, not know the age of your kids. I seen theses people do mural's on bedroom walls, by using a projector, you can decide on a theme, and project the picture on the wall, it can come from a coloring book, etc.. I also seen for girls rooms, a window box under the window, with clay pots inside with silk flowers, it was really pretty. Hope this helps,a bit, now if only I can figure out what to do with my dd room which has bright red carpet! good luck with your project.

For a girl a pale pink and white theme would look nice with a green carpet. Lavender also goes well with dark green.

or a simple cream and forest green theme with woodwork painted the same green and an ecru bedspread and curtains.

In the boys room/rooms the green carpet could be the field for a favorite sport. Decorate by getting bedding and a wall border that are sports related.

or

Camouflage bedding would appeal to some kids. Hang camouflage netting from a hook on the ceiling and make the bed into a cammy tent.

Bright primary colors will go well with a green carpet.

How about a John Deere theme with bright yellow and dark green?

Mrse I am NOT that creative or ambitious. but thanks for the ideas. Bea, I really like the first pic. If I ever have healthy kids, I am going shopping.

the kids ages are dd 6, ds 11, and dd 12 (soon to be 13).

For your DD, I like pink and white or lavendar with green, too. Colette, do you sew? I also saw a really cute idea for a girl's room on a decorating show one time-it was a fairy theme and they had a green rug that represented the grass. Or you could even do a New England garden theme with "shabby chic" type white painted furniture-add a picket type fence on the wall with flowers surrounding it like a garden-you can buy all sorts of decorations for the walls now that are easy to apply and remove-or stencils-those are really easy. You could add a child's table and chairs that are intended for the outdoors. Just rambling now-I love decorating! I got a sewing machine last Christmas and I'm working my way through the whole house!

I dont sew or paint or do any crafty type do it yourself stuff. I shop ;0)

LOL Colette...you are funny.

By Mommyathome on Wednesday, February 4, 2004 - 10:33 am:

This is one of my favorites. It comes in either a quilt or a comforter, and there are LOTS of accessories to go with it.

Mrse, that's funny - when I was a little girl, that's exactly how I always wanted to do my room. We had a green 70's shag carpet. I was going to do grass, put a brown bedspread on my bed for a "rock" and paint the walls with trees and the ceiling like the sky. Maybe some fairies in the trees. I never did it, but I always wanted exactly what you described.
