Janet and Justin Did you see that?

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive February 2004: Janet and Justin Did you see that?
By Tonya on Sunday, February 1, 2004 - 08:34 pm:

Did you guys just see the 1/2 time show he pulled off her top and my brother said it was all boob but it might have had a star tthere how bad is that they are showing way too much stuff on TV.

By Kaye on Sunday, February 1, 2004 - 08:48 pm:

yep...she had a pastie on though...very poor taste!

By Mommyathome on Sunday, February 1, 2004 - 08:51 pm:

I seen it, that was horrible. My kids were watching. They were playing at the same time and I'm not sure if they seen it or now, they didn't say anything.
Extremely poor taste. Very unclassy.

By Trina~moderator on Sunday, February 1, 2004 - 09:14 pm:

GRRRR!! I was watching with my 7 yr. old DS and am NOT pleased! Totally inappropriate for prime time TV!!

By Dananivyboo1 on Sunday, February 1, 2004 - 09:30 pm:

DH and I were sitting there looking at each other in a confused look wondering if we saw the same thing. It was a quick shot, but still we parents knew what was going on. All I have to say is Half Time show sucked!

By Karen~moderator on Sunday, February 1, 2004 - 09:37 pm:

Everyone is talking about it on every messageboard on the internet. DH went online right after the halftime show to his Terps messageboard and there was a streaming video of it on there already. I was shocked, and I agree, NOT appropriate!

By Amy~moderator on Sunday, February 1, 2004 - 10:46 pm:

I missed it...who was involved and what happened??

By Mommyduncan on Monday, February 2, 2004 - 12:17 am:

You didn't miss anything Amy. It was horrible. Absolutely the worst Half Time show I ever remember seeing! Justing Timberlake and Janet Jackson was singing to his song "Rock Your Body" (I think that's name of it). At the end when he said something about her clothes being off, he ripped off part of her bra and all there was was a sequined thing over her nipple. Very Bad!!!

By Colette on Monday, February 2, 2004 - 05:47 am:

Even dh and I who are totally not football fans started watching the game. We both looked at each other when this happened, kind of like a "did you see that?" look. This is after I was mentioning she is old enough to be his mother.

By Marg on Monday, February 2, 2004 - 06:02 am:

Ok, I didn't know if I saw it correctly, only dh and I were watching, and it was the stupidest thing we ever saw, we figured it was a "nude" suit under her.

You know what my dh brought up?

He said do you know the average age of people that go to the super bowl are usually men between the ages of 35 and 50. They don't even relate to Janet Jackson, Justin Timberlake, P Diddy, and Nelly. This is all for show for national tv, he thinks it is nonsense they have a half-time show (can't you tell he's really into football).

Sad how they turn a sport into a sexual crude event.

By Cat on Monday, February 2, 2004 - 07:33 am:

Jackson Comes Undone at Super Bowl; MTV Says Sorry

We watched the game at our church and thankfully we had turned the half time show off before this happened. Like we need out teens and kids watching that! I hope the NFL follows through with what they said about not letting MTV produce another half time show. Accident or not, very bad taste. :(

Oh, I love in this article about the line backer tackling the streaker. Too funny! What an idiot!

By Colette on Monday, February 2, 2004 - 08:52 am:

Of course it wasn't an accident - the pasty thing wouldn't have been there if it was an accident. Big publicity stunt.

By Trina~moderator on Monday, February 2, 2004 - 09:05 am:

I agree with Colette. It was totally planned. If it was an accident, how do you explain the fact that half her bustier ripped off perfectly so that her entire breast fell out? Also, how many people wear pasties underneath their clothing?! The thing that bothers me most is that this happened at 8:30, and I'm sure lots of kids saw it. My 7 yr. old DS did! Totally inappropriate for an event that is supposed to family friendly! text description

By Sunny on Monday, February 2, 2004 - 09:43 am:

I didn't see it at halftime, but I saw it on the news. I didn't miss anything, and yeah...all publicity. It seems to me that the line for good taste keeps getting pushed further and further back. Yuck.

By Marg on Monday, February 2, 2004 - 09:59 am:

Just another $.02. If this was a real accident don't you think lawyers and lawsuits would be flying right now!

They both need the publicity. His ex kissed Madonna and Janet, when's the last time she had a hit?

Not making fun or putting down, just stating the obvious.

It really makes me sick!

By Conni on Monday, February 2, 2004 - 10:13 am:

Ditto everyone else. This was NOT an accident. IT makes me very angry that my kids saw it. 3.5, 10 and 11.5 yrs of age. I was NOT happy with the entire dance they did. When she was rubbing her butt against his privates, etc... I suppose that was an accident too?? LOL grrrrrrrr

Oh and at the end of her first song so was rubbing her breasts??? I found that to be inappropriate.

This is one of the worst halftime shows EVER!

By Mommyathome on Monday, February 2, 2004 - 10:31 am:

Obviously NOT an accident. Give me a break. Justin Timberlakes "apology" reffered to it as a "wardrobe malfuncion". I seen CBS's apology on the news last night as well.
They say that MTV probably won't ever be allowed to produce a halftime show again. Thank goodness!!

By Dana on Monday, February 2, 2004 - 11:30 am:

I missed all of it, but i did hear about it on the news breifly (I was working on something). I had no idea that MTV produced the show. What a change! Tampa has hosted the super bowl for, hmmm, 4? times? and each time Disney is the producer LOL. They always got rave reviews. They should stick w/ what works best, and keeping FAMILY in mind should be a high point in production.

By Dana on Monday, February 2, 2004 - 11:45 am:

Investigation is already in progress. I was reading the site that was posted by Cat and saw a release stating "5 minutes ago" in the date and here is what is said:

"I have instructed the commission to open an immediate investigation into last night's broadcast," he said, vowing it would be "thorough and swift." Earlier, an FCC spokeswoman, Suzanne Tetreault, said it was launching a routine investigation because it had received complaints."

Has anyone ever watched Janets concert airing on HBO? She sure can dance, but I was shocked at the sexual content. At the end of the show, she has a guy from the audience come up to stage. Then she places him on a cross that mechanically rises up to an angle. Then while she sings a very sex related song---I MEAN TOTAL SEX song--she grinds on him in a way that a women should only do with her husband if she was feeling incredibly frisky and fun wanting to add some spice to a marriage. Totally graphic, totally real and all sex. Unbelievable. I wouldn't be surprised if that guy had to change underclothes after that performance.

By Jennln on Monday, February 2, 2004 - 11:52 am:

I have to agree that this was in extremely poor taste and I don't believe that it was an "accident" either.
(Although I do want to say that she was not wearing a pastie lol it was a nipple ring ;) You can see it here: http://www.drudgereport.com/mattjj.htm but be warned that you do see her boob so don't open the link if the kiddos are in the room )
Also you can see in the one pic there why that specific piece of the top came off so easily - looks like the cups of the bustier snap on...convienent don't you think ;) How they can explain a cup that is held on by snaps ripping off when Justin pulled on it as a "wardrobe malfunction" is beyond me - of course it's going to come off :(

By Eve on Monday, February 2, 2004 - 11:56 am:

My DH just sent me this sight. It was not a pasty! Just click on the link under the photo and it gives a closeup of the nipple ring. I've heard it will cost CBS $50 million in fines!

**Not for anyone that does not want to see Janet Jackson's breast close up!**

By Karen~moderator on Monday, February 2, 2004 - 12:05 pm:

LOL Eve, my DH is a drudgereport fanatic!

By Marg on Monday, February 2, 2004 - 12:23 pm:

I think it's disgusting and I think they should go back and have lawsuits against Justin, Janet and MTV:(

By Fraggle on Monday, February 2, 2004 - 01:19 pm:

I missed it and I'm glad I did. I only saw a few minutes of the half time show. Just not my kind of thing. Personally, I would rather have a marching band out there at half-time. Okay I am biased-I marched for almost 8 years in high school and college-but at least it is rated for the whole family!

By Babysitbarb on Monday, February 2, 2004 - 01:32 pm:

My DH,DD's and I all were like was that a accident or was that really suppose to happen? I guess I didn't even realize it was her boob until I saw the news this morning. It happened so fast that we didn't even realize it was her real boob with a pasty thing, instead of a another piece of material. I agree that the half time show was a big dissappointment.Between Nelly grabbing himself and Janet and Justin's so called accident I would have rather watched something else. This is the only part of the whole thing I watched. What about the streaker, good security.

By Debbie on Monday, February 2, 2004 - 01:33 pm:

I saw it, along with dh and my 5 yr old ds. Dh just kept saying "no way". I was so upset that ds saw it. He kept asking why the guy tore her shirt. I also agree with Conni, I thought the dancing during the performance was also over the top. In fact, I almost turned the channel since ds was watching. Now I wish I had. It makes me so mad that they show this stuff on prime time. It was 7:30 here!!! Justin Timberlake has a lot of nerve calling it an accident. It looked totally planned to me.

By Bellajoe on Monday, February 2, 2004 - 02:50 pm:

My dh and i were watching when that happened. Kids were in bed...it was like 8:30 or so here. i asked him if he saw what happened. He thought it was supposed to happen and i guess he thought she had a "nude suit" on or something. But i was pretty sure that it was her breast that was exposed for all to see. I was doubting myself till i turned on the computer and saw the news on the comcast homepage. I'm glad i'm not the only one that saw it!

It was very tasteless and completely unnecessary. In my opinion, i have never actually seen a GOOD halftime show. I am pretty sure that most people at the game are not into watching p diddy and Kid Rock! Please! I hope MTV never does another halftime show again.

I'm guessing it was not a 'accident' that he pulled off her top. Did his arm just spasm at that particular point of the song and happen to grab her top and pull it off? I don't think so!

By Mommmie on Monday, February 2, 2004 - 05:14 pm:

Maybe it was a nursing bra that snaps off...

just kidding

I was watching it and didn't see it. I was too busy being offended by the grinding duet they were doing and too irritated by the general crappiness of the whole half time show - who they picked to sing, the wearing the flag as a poncho, to the horrible sound..

PLUS, the constant obvious cussing of the coaches every time the camera had them on close-up. To me that was just as bad as the halftime. Luckily, my son hates sports and was being playing with his friends.

By Melanie on Monday, February 2, 2004 - 07:16 pm:

The bottom line is if they wanted a classy halftime show they should have invited classy artists. Couldn't someone have predicted something like this with MTV putting on the show? I thought the entire performance was in poor taste. That last move was crude and inappropriate but was not out of character for the performers. There is no such thing as bad press, remember? There is more talk over these two than over that fabulous ball game. They got exactly what they were hoping for. Next year, I hope they invite artists who want to be talked about for their talent, not their shock value.

By Boxzgrl on Monday, February 2, 2004 - 08:08 pm:

I didnt see it but I figure it was very inappropriate but I can expect that from Janet. I remember watching her videos 10+ years ago and they have always (for the most part) been very provocative. This whole "accident" if thats what you call it is just showing what our world is coming too, you dont even need cable tv anymore to get a little nippleage. Ugh....

By Bobbie on Monday, February 2, 2004 - 09:24 pm:

Oh that is so true.... This is just a sign to of things to come. I can go on and on but I will save everyone the pleasure of hearing me gripe.

By Insaneusmcwife on Tuesday, February 3, 2004 - 12:49 am:

Glad I missed it!

By Kaye on Tuesday, February 3, 2004 - 08:31 am:

What I find interesting also is. MTV put this on because there was a change of sponsership, Cadilac instead of disney (instead of the MVP going to sidney world he got a car). Anyway, I am sure cadilac wasn't so thrilled with this smear on their name. But I also heard that MTV is owned by Disney. Hmmm interesting.

By Feona on Tuesday, February 3, 2004 - 08:39 am:

Is that thing permanently attached to her boob?

It looks so uncomfortable!

By Bobbie on Tuesday, February 3, 2004 - 10:50 pm:

No it is removable Feona. If you look really close you can see the post that is holding it on. I am sure she doesn't wear that on a daily bases. It would hang up on her clothing..
