What ever happened too...

Saturday morning cartoons?

When i was little i watched the Smurfs, Bugs Bunny, My Little Ponies, and other cute shows that i can't think of right now. I remember they also had on He-Man, Transformers, Gi -Joe for boys. Now there is not much on on Sat. mornings. There is still the same old shows that they show on Disney channel every single day, they have like 1 hour of cartoons on CBS in the morning, and not much else!

I did go to the cartoon network this morning and my dd watched Looney Toons, which she loved. But then i changes the channel because some stupid show came on after it. So of course they are back to watching Disney Channel.

I just wish they still had on the same shows as when i was little. I know my dd and son would love the Smurfs.

I guess this is sort of a vent...just something i needed to get off my chest. What do you think? Did you watch cartoons on Saturday mornings? what did you watch?

By Marg on Saturday, January 31, 2004 - 08:54 am:

I know you have to turn to "The WB", Disney, Cartoon Network or Nick or versions of them.

It's sad isn't it.

I don't let my kids watch Cartoon Network, but they do watch Boomerang, which shows all the cartoons you mentioned. They love watching the Superfriends and Wacky Racers, two of my favorites growing up. They often pick one year and show cartoons just from that year. (And yes, they do show the Smurfs!)

Boomerang!! *I* love watching it LOL The Flintstones and The Jetsons are my two all time favorites :) My DS loves the Smurfs.

My son likes Fox Box on Saturday morning (when he remembers to turn it on, he usually forgets like this morning). Mostly the Sonic show, he likes.

Since there are cartoons 24/7 on Toon Disney and Nick Toons my son can watch cartoons anytime and he gets bored with it. The cartoons on Fox Box are only on Sat morning so those are more special to him.

I got premium digital cable so he could have Toon Disney and Nick Toons bec there are so many horrible cartoons on Cartoon Network and they switch to Adult Cartoons (Adult Swim) at 10pm which is way too early on sleepover nights. I know parents who don't even realize that Cartoon Network plays adult cartoons at 10pm and just keep letting kids watch it unaware! EEK!

We don't get boomerang and I don't know what it is:(

Just the other day, I was thinking about how I used to love Saturday morning cartoons and the "School Rocks" snippets. Now there's just news shows on the networks on Saturday mornings. With the advent of cable, there's all kinds of cartoons to watch, but not always of the quality they used to be in the good old days!! Bummer!!

By Amyl on Saturday, January 31, 2004 - 01:38 pm:

maybe it is all coming back though, I see Strawberry shortcake and yesterday I saw Rainbow Bright in the stores!! I am hoping that it is coming back anyways, school house rocks were awesome, conjuction, junction what's your function....... the good ole days.

On one of our normal channels, they show Nick shoes in Saturday morning, like Blues Clues and Dora the Explorer. It is nice for those of us who have the cheap cable and don't get Nick.

By Dawnk777 on Saturday, January 31, 2004 - 04:35 pm:

I meant "shows", not "shoes" Noticed that right after I clicked submit.

By Bellajoe on Saturday, January 31, 2004 - 04:40 pm:

Amyl, you saw Rainbow Brite in the store? I remember i was the only one of my friends that had a rainbow brite, she was cute! I wish all those shows would come back.

On Cartoon Network they show awful "cartoons' like Southpark...i would never let my kids watch those. I don't even want them to watch the Simpsons. i hate that one.

By Mommmie on Sunday, February 1, 2004 - 01:55 pm:

Southpark on Cartoon Network? Really? I thought it was only on the Comedy Channel. Yuk on that cartoon for sure.

Now, The Simpsons...LOVE that show. Brilliant! I started letting my son watch that one when he was 6.

By Mommyathome on Sunday, February 1, 2004 - 02:11 pm:

Amyl, I seen Rainbow Brite in Wal-mart this past week too! I was so excited!!! I am so happy to see all these toys coming back, Care Bears, Strawberry Shortcake dolls and so on. Such fun toys that I grew up on :)

By Bellajoe on Sunday, February 1, 2004 - 03:39 pm:

Laura, maybe Southpark isn't on Cartoon Network...maybe your right it might just be on comedy central. I don't know LOL, i don't watch the show! :)

I just think the Simpsons are rude and obnoxious.

Robin, i got my kids Care Bears for last Valentine's Day...maybe this year my dd will get Rainbow Brite or Strawberry Shortcake :) I will just relive my childhood through her LOL!!!

By Tonya on Sunday, February 1, 2004 - 08:30 pm:

Those were some of my favorite shows ever. The transformers and CareBears and Rainbow bright. Don't forget She-Ra and He-Man. And Smurfs and Pac-Man. I wish my kids could watch those shows.

By Fionadeassis on Monday, February 2, 2004 - 09:39 am:

Oh oh-don't get me started on cartoons......Land of the Lost...Fat Albert.....Wacky Races...Banana Splits...Star Blazers....Captain Caveman....Josie and the Pussycats...Groovy Ghoulies.....

I could go on forever.... Me and my sister LOVED Saturday morning cartoons.
