Looking at buying our first house....

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive January 2004: Looking at buying our first house....
By Kathy on Sunday, January 25, 2004 - 04:43 pm:

and I am sooo worried. I am afraid that we are getting in over our heads. We have already been pre-approved by a mortgage company, but I'm still apprehensive. Maybe I partly feel this way because it is in another state and we would have to pick up our lives here and basically start over again. I just don't know. What can I do to get over this feeling?

{{{Kathy}}} Sounds normal to me! I'm not sure there is anything you can do to get over these feelings, besides go to the closing, move and get settled in! LOL! Are you still considering the Bratt area in VT? Great area. I'm sure you'll like it. I've moved a few too many times myself and have come to realize I could be happy almost anywhere, as long as my family is together. We're in our 3rd house and we got those same feelings/worries/concerns every time. Many HUGS and prayers. Keep us posted. :)

Change is hard, even if you really want it! It's hard to uproot yourselves and get settled in a new place. Even if you just move across town! Eventually the new place becomes home and life settles down again.

What state you moving to Kathy?

We bought our house in 86 for $39,000. The person who sold us our house held a small second mortgage for us, she was really nice.

Anyway, Dh was in the Navy with a rotation of Norfolk/Italy. He didn't want me to live in Norfolk alone and this house was 2 miles from my parents. Our mortgage was $384 a month and I thought for sure we would never make it (we were 19), lol!

Almost 18 years later (on 2/22) we're still here. We built on 3 times to suit our growing family. We have 3 dds and they love it here. The neighbor even sold us the vacant lot between our houses for next to nothing.

We couldn't be happier!

Take your time when picking a home:)

BTW you have a beautiful family!

Good luck and keep us posted!

I guess I am confused. I am sure that you have posted about this before, but your moving to a whole new state just because of a house??? Or is dh getting transfered or something? I have a story to tell but I am not sure if it would pertain to your situation or not???

Trina is right. The only way to get over it is to jump in and do it! :) Dh and I moved from RI to CA 8 years ago. I was nervous about it at the time, but really focused on the positive. At first it was hard. For the first few years I think I would have jumped at the chance had dh offered to move us back east. But now I cannot imagine living anywhere else. I absolutely love it here.

Good luck!

Now that I think about it, it isn't the moving part that I am hesitant about. I have no problems with moving or even going to another state because I've done it before. I guess it is just all the overwhelming things that come with buying a house. We've never bought a house before so it is all new to me, although it shouldn't be since I used to do real estate closings all the time, but I guess it is different when it is yourself personally.

Our first big move was 6 years ago to MA from CT for dh's job. It was then that I moved away from my family. At this point in time, my dh is focusing on his art and since he can do his art from anywhere, he wants to move to VT. Not for a job...not for family...but just because he likes it. Plus the cost of houses are incredibly lower than here in MA. It would be almost impossible for us to buy a house here.

So....we will be going up to VT this weekend and will be looking at at least 3 houses. Thing is, there aren't many houses for sale in the town that dh picked out. But hopefully, we will find something. I just want everything to work out.
