Going to New York City - What about carseat??

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive January 2004: Going to New York City - What about carseat??
By Debbie on Sunday, January 25, 2004 - 02:14 pm:

My brother lives in New York City and we are going to visit over spring break. My youngest ds will be almost 4 when we go. We plan on taking the subway and walking once we are there. However, we will be taking a taxi from the airport to our hotel. What do we do about a carseat??? I can't see us installing it into the taxi. Do people do this?? He is over 40 lbs, so I was thinking about just taking a backless booster, so the seatbelt is in the correct position. What do you think??? I want him to be safe during the ride. Any NYC mom's out there. What do you do??? Feona, don't you live in the city??? My brother doesn't have children so he is clueless. He did say to make sure and bring our stoller, but other then that, he has no idea.

I would take 2 backless boosters for your boys. We flew to Disney this past November, and had a Towncar drive us from the airport to the hotel. I packed a backless booster for DS (7 yrs., 57 lbs.) and a Britax Laptop for DD (5 yrs., 37 lbs.) in luggage and checked it with the rest of our bags. We pulled them out when we got our luggage at the airport and quickly installed them in the Towncar. Worked great!

Thanks Trina. My oldest has a booster which he uses that I can take the back off and make it backless. I was just thinking about buying another backless one for my youngest to use. He usually rides in a regular carseat since he isn't 4 yet and really can't be trusted to sit safely. I guess for just the short ride too and from the hotel, he will be fine.

Debbie, what particular car seat does your youngest DS have?

Trina, I had to get a new one last year because he was over 40 lbs. I want to say it is the Britax Marathon??? I know it is Britax, but I can't remember the exact name. It is one that harnesses over 40 lbs. He is just so busy, I didn't trust him in a booster without a harness and his old carseat only harnessed up to 40 lbs.
