Computer down

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive January 2004: Computer down
By Ginny~moderator on Saturday, January 24, 2004 - 05:54 pm:

Using my son's, to access email and the all important Momsview on the weekend, and can access from work M-F until new Dell arrives. What a drag. At least I copied my important files about 6 weeks ago so will be able to have bookmarks and email addies, but still a pain. Don't know what happened but suspect either a major hard drive failure happening or major virus. When I opened my Norton I had no virus definitions and could not download from instant update, and I am not about to go on the web without Norton riding shotgun. I did back up my Quicken files and checked the floppies on my Norton at work and they are clean. Still, a major, major pain.

I'm sorry you had a meltdown, Ginny, but glad to see you saved the important stuff. Hope you'll be back up to speed very soon.

By Marg on Saturday, January 24, 2004 - 06:08 pm:

I wondered where you were Ginny!

I had the same problem, but I didn't back anything up, some in works I should have but I think I can get it up and going enough to print out or copy to a disk on safe mode.

I'm wondering what happened to mine also, I also suspect a virus, but the computer is getting old.

DH does all college work online so he needed one and college had a deal with gateway so that's what we got.

Missed you posting, I hope you have a good weekend. Is it snowing up there. We got a good 6 to 7 inches last night, they said only 1, lol!

remember Ilive in south central pa.

BTW how are things going? Been thinking and praying for you.

By Marg on Saturday, January 24, 2004 - 06:11 pm:

BTW, I read your post somewhere, oh I no about driving, did you say you were 65? There is no way you look 65 and that's your mom on your picture? This is too hard to believe, you guys do not look your ages!

Wow, you guys have some great anti-aging genes!

By Ginny~moderator on Saturday, January 24, 2004 - 06:43 pm:

Yes, the good genes are from my mom's side of the family. That photo on my profile, BTW, was in 1994, at my middle son's wedding. Mom was then 79 and I was (let's see know, counting on fingers) 56. My dear mom died at 82 in late 1997. Her mother lived to 103 and some of her mother's sisters to late 90s. It is certainly the genes, as I don't have a healthy lifestyle.

We had a bit of snow this morning (SE PA) and are threatened with a nasty one Sunday evening, followed by sleet and snow Monday morning for the commute. I truly, truly hate winter.

By Marg on Saturday, January 24, 2004 - 07:01 pm:

BTW that's a really good picture Ginny.

I'm sorry about your mom.

I know Ginny, I think me and you should move to Key West or further south, lol! Dh was called to go into work tomorrow at the group home, but he probably won't have school Monday. He doesn't get paid when they don't have school.

I prepared tax returns for over 15 years and I would go to work in any kind of weather! Of course the I R S would make tax season during bad weather ;)

I hope you don't go to work in bad weather. It's scary, Have a safe Sunday and Monday:)

By Bobbie on Saturday, January 24, 2004 - 10:33 pm:

Ginny that really stinks. But atleast you don't have to go MIA. Hope the Del comes soon. And you be careful Monday. It does sound like one heck of a storm is going to hit...

By Ginny~moderator on Sunday, January 25, 2004 - 12:47 pm:

Thanks to my dear son, I don't have to be MIA, and can even get my email on his system through his Eudora shell (don't ask me, I don't understand it at all). I too hope it arrives soon.

As for the storm, yes, I will be very careful. With luck, the city will ask people to stay home, which is the only time my office closes because of weather, but I think I would try to get in anyway because my boss starts a trial on Tuesday and lots has to be done. (I hate last minute stuff, I truly do.)
