We are going to Disney, again...

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive January 2004: We are going to Disney, again...
By Jackie on Saturday, January 24, 2004 - 08:58 am:

I thought I could make it a whole year without going(Ive been to Disney over 10 times). But, its killing me, and talked my husband into going again. We have picked the first week of May to go. I will have to take my son out of school for 5 days, but we have taken him out of school every yr since Kindergarten and has never proven to be a big deal. We are driving as to save money on planefare. So Ive been looking at Cheaper motels in the area, we try to always do things as cheaply as possible. I found this place called Oak Plantation, and they are villas. I booked a 1 bedroom villa, which is 1 king size bed ,and a queen size sleeper sofa, it has a full kitchen and washer/dryer in each unit, for 39$ a night, plus the 12% tax. That is one heck of deal, it is a timeshare community. It looks a little older, but for that price we are not complaining. We dont spend that much time in the room. We love the fact of fridge and microwave, as that will save us a ton of money.Ok, just had to share as Im so totally ready to go, yet I have 3 long months to wait :)

DH's stepmom and stepdad have a time share or two down there Jackie.

When I was 9 months pregnant they had an unused week and called us to "let us use it." I wasn't happy, they had a whole year to ask someone to use it and at the last minute they decided "we could have it." It's a weird situation.

I told them, I guess you forgot I'm pregnant,

I hope you have a wonderful time.

We haven't been there since 97. I'd like to go down, but we'd probably drive and stop and see a few sites along the way.

I hope you have a wonderfully time. BTW, I like the timeshares with washers and dryers it's wonderful for packing and not bringing home so many dirty clothes:)

Jackie, we have stayed there. It's wonderful!! My kids never wanted to leave to go to Disney! LOL They have 3 pools, one heated and a kiddie swim area, tennis courts, basketball courts, barbecue, video game room.

We've never gone to Disney, but really want to go... maybe this year...

Do you go to Disney and Universal Studios? I've heard several people say one's better than the other, and vice versa. What are your opinions on this?

Do you get any type of ticket package that is the best or do you just buy individual tickets? We have two kids, 7 and 4, and would have to go the cheapest route, also.

Any advice?

I am jealous!! Have fun planning and I can't wait to hear all about it! :)

By Jackie on Saturday, January 24, 2004 - 11:32 am:

So far our plans are only to go to disney. We usually go to Universal as well. THis yr, it depends on money. We usually get the 4 day park hopper passes, they never expire. So if we only use 3 days this yr, we have one day to use in yrs to come. Last yr when we went and we had leftover passes. This yr though, we have to buy all new passes. I Love Universal as well. But, Magic Kingdom by far is my favorite. I get the "chills" when Cinderalla's castle comes into view, Im just a big kid at heart.

My children are ages 7 and 9. They prefer Universal Studios. We live in Florida (4 hours away) so they have done both but they say Universal is there favorite.

Oh Jackie, how fun. We went last year during the first week in May and it was great. It wasn't too crowded and the weather was wonderful. It was in the mid 80's most of the week with just a few afternoon showers here and there. You are going to have such fun!!

By Kate on Saturday, January 24, 2004 - 03:40 pm:

What are the hours in May? I don't like going when they close at six or seven at night. Is it open until midnight in May?

By Bea on Saturday, January 24, 2004 - 04:54 pm:

I love Disney too. We'll be taking Nichole again next year. We plan to go to Discovery Cove this time. She is so excited. Have a wonderful time!!!!

We are going this year but we still haven't decided when. First we were going to go in early December, then it was for Thanksgiving, now DH is talking about maybe going really soon! We went 1 1/2 ago-my girls were 15 months and 3 yrs. old and I think it was one of the best times I have ever had there (I had been 5 times before that trip). This trip we are planning on staying at Residence Inn. Once DH decides when we are going I will enter into trip planning mode-it drives DH crazy but I think everything went really smoothly on our last trip. I love checking the Disboards, too. Have fun planning for your trip!

We will be there the first week of May too, we are doing the land and sea package 4 nights at the Polynesian and 4 night crise on Disney's Wonder. We have been to Disney many times but never on their cruise. I love the Magic Kingdom too! To me that is WDW.

By Debbie on Sunday, January 25, 2004 - 02:20 pm:

Kate, the parks are not open until midnight in May. Most of the parks were open until 7 or 8pm during the week, except Epcot which closed at 9pm every night. They were open later on the weekends until around 9pm. My dks are still small, so this was fine for us. I would much rather have shorter hours with less crowds. With fastpass, I don't think we waited over 15 minutes for a ride. I have been in the summer and it is just too hot and crowded for us.

By Mommyof4 on Wednesday, January 28, 2004 - 12:04 am:

We were just at Disneyworld last week. We were at Magic Kingdom on a Thursday and basically walked right on to any ride we wanted. It was great! We stayed at the Holiday Inn Family Suites for $114/night.

Jackie when you get back be sure to tell us how your hotel was. I really like the price you got and we try to go to Disney just about every year.
