Pancake Mix

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive January 2004: Pancake Mix

I use the kind you just add water.

Can you save unused portion?

We used to do this in the restaurant I worked at (over 20 years ago).

Any knowledge or comments?

I always just made the extra pancakes and then freeze them. All you have to do is cook them in the mircowave for a few minutes and they're just really good!

BTW did you know an easy way to cut up pancakes or waffles for your little one is to use a pizza cutter. Cut it anyway you or they like!

By Marg on Friday, January 23, 2004 - 09:03 am:

Wow that's interesting Nikki, I never thought of that, thanks for the idea:)

Marg, I use my pizza cutter for EVERYTHING. Pancakes, waffles, toast, spaghetti...you name it!

By Marg on Friday, January 23, 2004 - 09:07 am:

Do you freeze them separately? This would be easy than trying to break apart the number you need. Or do you place wax paper between them?

I always cook extra pancakes and waffles and freeze them. I put waxpaper between them. I need to do it now, I guess we might have breakfast for dinner tonight!!

We buy the one that says just add water, but my DH who always makes the best pancakes uses milk instead. They come out fluffier(sp?) and I think he adds a touch of cinammon.

I love breakfast for dinner!! LOL Some sunny side up eggs with french fries and pancakes. DH used to think I was weird when we first dated that i wanted eggs for dinner. Yummy!

I love breakfast for dinner, too, but my older dd doesn't! Bummer.

The pancakes keep in the fridge too, if you make them ahead of time. :)

Ok, I need a pizza cutter! Thats a great idea for cutting up the pancakes. I have not made pancakes in forever. That sounds good. I want to try to make them from scratch with my whole wheat flour. I'll keep you posted. I love Bisquick. Much easier! :)

I use hodson mills whole wheat or buckwheat pancake mix. I can't stand regular pancakes or waffles anymore, they taste like a sponge. The whole grain mixes have more texture and taste.

Colette what's it taste like with the whole wheat or buckwheat? I like a sweet fluffy pancake, and yes, I feel like pancakes tastes like sponges lol!

By Colette on Friday, January 23, 2004 - 01:05 pm:

It's a little nutty tasting. Very different from a reg. pancake or waffle. Once we started the whole wheat thing, I can't eat white bread, pasta made with white flour, very few baked goods (ok, I still eat cookies but that's it and sometimes I mix in whole wheat flour w/the reg. white flour).

Do you not eat any pasta or make your own?

By Colette on Friday, January 23, 2004 - 03:20 pm:

We used to buy whole wheat pasta but we've just started making our own (using whole wheat flour).

http://www.hodgsonmill.com/ if you are interested in trying any of their products and can't get them in the store, you can order them online.

actually the online price is cheaper than the store price.

I like the flavour of the Krusteaz pancake mix, that just requires water. However, I have also used Bisquick for over thirty years for pancakes. I like very thin pancakes, almost like crepes. Therefore, I follow the recipe on the Bisquick box, but I add an extra egg, and more milk, until the batter is quite thin. Then, I get my pan really hot, and use REAL butter to grill them in. Yum!!

The kids and I love breakfast for dinner, too. My older kids did, too. DH just eats it, but thinks we're nuts. We love French toast as a Sunday night supper.

I use my kitchen scissors more than my pizza cutter. I have two very nice pairs and they go straight into the dishwasher. I use my scissors to cut my pizza!
