Looking for a bathing suit

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive January 2004: Looking for a bathing suit
By Cat on Tuesday, January 20, 2004 - 03:22 pm:

The suit I have now is about 5 years old and is starting to wear out. It hasn't helped that there's a new rec center about a mile from my house that we got to about three times a week now! lol Anyway, I'm looking for a tankini with boy cut bottoms. I don't want a bikini top, but one that covers about to where the bottoms are (if a little tummy shows that's okay, especially if I get that belly button ring! lol). I've found some on eBay that look good, but not the right sizes. Has anyone bought a suit on eBay? I'd make sure it was new, not used (maybe it's just me but I don't want a used suit!). Any experience there? Or does anyone know of any websites that would have one? I've checked Land's End and they don't have any I like. TIA :)

I'm trying to think of where i was recently that had a ton of bathing suits out already....It might have been Sears. I was at some store and was just grossed out that they already had bathing suits out. it makes me sad that it is so snowy and cold...i am looking forward to the summer! Too bad it is soooo far away. Good Luck on finding your bathing suit.

No i haven't bought anything on ebay, so i can't help you there.

Victorias Secret has really cute swimsuits every year. Not sure if they are out yet, but you could check the website.

By Texannie on Tuesday, January 20, 2004 - 03:48 pm:

Landsend.com and NewportNews.com have cute suits.

By Feona on Tuesday, January 20, 2004 - 03:49 pm:

I don't think you can go wrong with lands end if you need one right away.

I've had good luck with suits from Lands' End,

Victoria's Secret

Venus Swimwear

NO, I don't wear skimpy bikinis like the models shown. LOL! I usually get tankini tops with high waist, full bottoms. You can get boy shorts, too. They're sold separately so you can customize to your liking. :)

Is this like what you are looking for?

Texannie, that's a pretty tankini, and something I would wear. I stick with prints because solid colors show every bump and bulge. LOL!

By Ginny~moderator on Tuesday, January 20, 2004 - 04:28 pm:

Lands End is really great, and has the best range of sizes, leg cuts and styles I've seen, at reasonable prices.

By Cat on Tuesday, January 20, 2004 - 04:28 pm:

Yes! Texannie, that's the kind of bottoms I'm looking for. I love the one you got for your cruise! The prices are great, too! I'll have to do a little more looking there. Thanx!!!

Another reason I'm looking is we're going to the beach this summer with dh's family. The reason I'm looking at boy legs bottoms is I get terrible razor rash. *blush* Any advise there???

By Texannie on Tuesday, January 20, 2004 - 04:58 pm:

Cat, I get those too and have just reconciled myself to waxing. I have also found board shorts just over my bottoms works great too.
I sure hope the bathing suit fits, it was such a deal!

By Yjja123 on Tuesday, January 20, 2004 - 05:13 pm:

I have bought several swimsuits on ebay.
No problems at all. NEW only---Yes used grosses me out too.

By Debbie on Tuesday, January 20, 2004 - 05:59 pm:

Cat, there is a website called www.zenaswimwear.com. You can customize your suit. You pick out the top and the bottom separetly. You can choose your fabric and also if you want trim. You put in your measurements, so you get a perfect fit. They are a little more expensive, but they last forever. I bought one a few years ago and love it. It still looks great and fits better then any bathsuit I have ever bought. If you don't mind spending a little more, you might want to check it out.

By Cat on Tuesday, January 20, 2004 - 07:11 pm:

Thanx for the site, Debbie. The suit I would want would be $139 (basic, no extras). Dh said that's a bit much for a bathing suit! lol I really liked the site, though. Maybe when we're millionaires. :)

I'm really looking closely at the Newport News site. Thanx everyone, for all the sites and suggestions. :)

By Sue3 on Tuesday, January 20, 2004 - 07:20 pm:

Cat ,
I was going to suggest Lands End also , then read that you checked and didn`t find any you like.
Have you checked J.Crew ? They have really cute suits also , I am sure they have a website.
Good luck !
and let us know when you get that bellybutton
ring .

By Cat on Tuesday, January 20, 2004 - 07:39 pm:

Thanx, Sue. I looked at JCrew's web site and they do have a really nice pair of shorts (not really shorts, but not really boycut bathing suit bottom either). They didn't have as much of a variety of tops. Most of them were a little to little for my style, if you kwim! lol They had one that might work. It was still a little short. I've got lots of time before we go to the beach to find the perfect suit, so I'll keep looking at all these sites and I'm sure the stores will be stocked up soon. Thanx again to all my internet shopping helpers! lol :)

By Debbie on Wednesday, January 21, 2004 - 10:56 am:

Cat, Our stores here are already stocked up!!! I laughed on Saturday when I went into Khols. It was about -15 with the windchill. I got a good laugh at all the bathing suits.

By Shellyg on Wednesday, January 21, 2004 - 11:03 am:

Cat, I was at Target yesterday and they had some really nice bathing suits, even some with the boy cut bottoms. So many cute suits!

By Trina~moderator on Wednesday, January 21, 2004 - 11:22 am:

LOL, Debbie! Seeing bathing suits in the stores now during the dead of winter is like sunshine to me! :) Seriously though, I think they bring them out now because people go on cruises or vacation in WARM areas this time of year.

Cat, have you checked out the Venus swimwear site? Ignore the bikini clad beach bimbos they show on the front page. LOL! They also sell tankini tops, high waist bottoms and boy shorts. I look at the fabrics first and then choose from the styles of tops and bottoms they offer. I like the way they sell them as separates.

By Dananivyboo1 on Wednesday, January 21, 2004 - 11:57 am:

VS, Fredericks. and yes Target put our some bathing suits in our area as well. Although I do not know why seeing that there is still snow fallin in our area.
