I never knew

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive January 2004: I never knew
By Trisa on Friday, January 16, 2004 - 03:37 pm:

I just now after being here for a while now noticed that
this site has a chat room. Do any of you ever chat? I know we are all busy moms but it would be fun once in a while. Alot of other sites have a set time each week to chat. Just wondering.

It doesn't get used very often. If you ever have time to chat just post a note on this board that you are on your way there and hopefully others will have time to join you. Sometimes that is successful, sometimes not. If it's not, don't take it personally. It can be difficult to find others who have time right when you do. :)

I will try it . It would be fun.
I have tried some aol chats and yahoo chats but wow people are such jerks. I would feel safer doing it here.

Sometimes a member will suggest a chat at a specific date and time, and those who can will join in. That does mean that the person setting up the chat has to linger in the chat room (or set it to be notified if someone else joins - I think you can do that), as people won't usually come in "on the dot".

This has worked most successfully when a topic that several people are interested in is set as the topic of the chat. But by and large the chats I've joined from Momsview have had 6 or 8 people at most and, with the time differences, some are joining just as others are having to go to bed. One of the disadvantages of (1) being so far-flung in our membership and (2) being adults who have responsibilities that require a good night's sleep, instead of people who can stay up all night to chat.

If you want to try it, I encourage you to try. You do need to be aware, however, that outsiders can join in the chat as it is not as carefully membership restricted as the board, though you can, of course, exclude an outsider's posts from your view of the chat if you wish.
