Pre-Labor Questions (Some graphic)

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive January 2004: Pre-Labor Questions (Some graphic)
By Tonya on Friday, January 16, 2004 - 12:21 pm:

Ok ladies who have actualyl gone into labor and not had to be induced I have some questions for you.

1. Do you start getting a heavier discharge towards the end before labor starts? (Always being wet down there?)

2. Did any of you have allot of pre-back labor only to find out it was the real thing?

3. Did you get to the point of where you just could not breath anymore no matter what you did? (Where you felt like it was super humid no matter where you went?)

4. Did the baby start slowing down on moving allot towards the end right before delviery or is it common during the last few weeks of the pregnancy?

By Mrse on Friday, January 16, 2004 - 12:35 pm:

I have had three daughters, and I did not experience any discharge from what I can remember, and I did have problems breathing at the end, just because I was so huge. I also believe that is normal, for babies to slow activity as they get into postion to be born. That is all I can think of for now, got to go to work, bye for now

By Debbie on Friday, January 16, 2004 - 12:35 pm:

Oh Tonya I hate to be a downer, but I experienced those things for several weeks before I had my 2nd ds. My 1st was almost 3 weeks early, so my doctor wanted me to be ready early. I started having contractions 2 weeks before my due date. I got sent home from the hospital twice. Both times, my contractions were 5 minutes apart for some time, but then would just stop. Finally, they had to induce me after my due date. I was having contractions and was 4-5 centimeters dialated, just nothing happening.

Hang in there. Hopefully, it will be over soon and you'll have a happy, healthy little girl.

By Mommyathome on Friday, January 16, 2004 - 12:44 pm:

I didn't experience any of those. The only way I knew I was in labor was because of the contractions. They just suddenly appeared.
Are you dialated or effaced at all yet?
(((((hugs)))))
Those last few weeks can be quite trying!

Just a funny little side note: When my second child was due, my DH was scheduled to start working out of town. He would be gone all week and home on weekends. I was so afraid that I would go into labor and he wouldn't make it back in time. It was 3 weeks till my due date, and I was sharing my concerns with a close friend. She said to have some *good sex*. He was scheduled to leave on Tuesday, so Monday night we had sex. By 4am Tuesday I was in labor! I was so excited and completely convinced that the sex made me go into labor. (I really think it did!) When my 3rd child was due, I decided I had enough of being pregnant and about a 2 weeks before my due date, we tried the "sex method" again. It didn't work :( I was so huge and so uncomfortable that we couldn't even really do it. I ended up going into labor after getting really sick and having a horrible cough. The doctor said the cough helped me into labor LOL
So, it's different every time! After 3 kids, I can say for sure that no two times were alike. Each experience was very different.

By Eve on Friday, January 16, 2004 - 01:38 pm:

Tonya, I had all of those symptoms, but all the last weeks of pregnancy. When I went into labor, my water never broke on it's own. I just had a contraction that made me hunch over in pain and made me break out into a sweat. I knew it was time. Especially when you have a contraction and you can't walk.

Hang in there! Hopefully, your body is just getting ready and it won't be too long to go! :)

By Trina~moderator on Friday, January 16, 2004 - 01:45 pm:

My water broke both times before labor began.

The discharge you're experiencing could be your mucous plug loosening up. Sounds like you're nearing the end.... Or the beginning, however way you want to look at it!

By Trisa on Friday, January 16, 2004 - 01:59 pm:

I am sorry to say I did not have any of those happen to me. I did have back labor with my dd but it didnt not happen until I was in labor not before. I go very quick and my husband almost did not see dd being born. I was inlabor 6 hours with my first. With my 2nd I called the doc who was a different than the one I had with my son. I told him I thought I needed to come in and he said no that I had hours yet. Well 10 min later I had this major pain and felt something pop and I knew I had to get to the hospital FAST! My neighbors had to take me. Hubby was at work. My hubby works kinda far from the Hospital but he must have flew because I was only in the Hospital for 20 min and he walked in and then I started to push and out she came. I had no time for ANY pain med. I must have sounded soooo stupid because I was in so much pain and I kept saying whats wrong, when I had my son it did not feel like this. The doctor even got up and turned on the radio and asked me If I was sure I had done this before!! I told him I tried to tell him I needed to come in the first time I called!! I hope you go soon. Those last few weeks are not fun.

By Babysitbarb on Friday, January 16, 2004 - 02:26 pm:

Tonya, for my first one I had a bloody show and dierreha all day before I started labor.
for my second one I had a bloody show like 5 days before I went into labor.
So they were both different. I had a warning with the first but not really with the second.
I labored 5 hours with the first one and I did most of it at home until after about 21/2 hours and the bloody show got real heavy and I was having 3 pains in five minutes time..I had her 1 hour and 40 minutes after i got to the hospital.
The second one was 3 hours labor and I had her 1 hour after getting to the hospital and there was no warning other then I woke up from the cramping.
Good luck, and I hope everything goes good for you.

By Vicki on Friday, January 16, 2004 - 03:15 pm:

Tonya~ Your 1 question..I had that several weeks before I was due. I talked tot he Dr about it and he made me go to the hospital to make sure it wasn't fluid leaking. It wasn't and I was told it is totally normal for that to happen and he just wanted to check to be sure. 2. I had no back pain what so ever, so I can't help you there. 3. Breathing was tough, but I am told that is normal too. 4. Same thing happened to me. It was explained to me that is normal too since the baby is lower and there is much less wiggle room. As long as your feeling some movement at least every few hours, everything is fine. Good Luck!!

(FORGIVE CAPS--NOT YELLING JUST USING THEM AS A WAY TO MAKE OUT MY ANSWERS TO YOUR QUESTIONS )
:)

1. Do you start getting a heavier discharge towards the end before labor starts? (Always being wet down there?)
YES-I DID ABOUT 2 WEEKS PRIOR TO GIVING BIRTH TO MY 2ND CHILD

2. Did any of you have allot of pre-back labor only to find out it was the real thing?
I HAD SEVERE BACK PAIN AND BRAXTON HICKS FOR A MONTH BEFORE HAVING MY SON (2ND CHILD) WHEN I TRULY WAS IN LABOR IT TOOK ME A WHILE TO BELIEVE IT AS I HAD MANY FALSE ALARMS DUE TO THE PAINFUL BRAXTON HICKS

3. Did you get to the point of where you just could not breath anymore no matter what you did? (Where you felt like it was super humid no matter where you went?)
YES--THIS TOO WAS WORSE IN MY SECOND PREGNANCY THAN MY FIRST. I FELT LIKE I COULD ONLY BREATH WHEN I WAS LAYING FLAT ON MY BACK. I HAD HOT FLASHES AND JUST COULDN'T GET COMFORTABLE

4. Did the baby start slowing down on moving allot towards the end right before delviery or is it common during the last few weeks of the pregnancy?
MY SECOND CHILD MOVED DOWN IN POSITION 3 WEEKS BEFORE I HAD HIM. THE PRESSURE ON MY BLADDER WAS UNREAL. MY DOCTOR THOUGHT I WOULD HAVE HIM MUCH SOONER THAN I DID. SHE HAD ME EATING SPICY FOODS, HAVING SEX, ETC...ALL THE THINGS THAT ARE "SUPPOSED TO BRING ON LABOR".
MY FIRST PREGNANCY WAS MUCH EASIER THAN MY SECOND. I HAD A LOT MORE DISCOMFORT IN THE SECOND PREGNANCY--IN PARTICULAR THE LAST TRIMESTER. MY PRAYERS ARE WITH YOU!

By Lauram on Friday, January 16, 2004 - 05:49 pm:

Nope- but I DID have prelabor problems- for two months. I had to be on bed rest for it. Prelabor for me was regular contractions (ie not braxton hicks) five min apart until I got to the hospital and they calmed them down (with hydration). Also, HORRIBLE pressure "down there" (feeling like the baby is going to fall out). It was pretty scary, actually. This all started at 28 weeks for me with my second son. I went to the hospital 13 times in "prelabor." ALso, I was wet ALL the time!

By Arnion on Saturday, January 17, 2004 - 06:57 am:

Tonya,

All of those are symptoms indicating the onset of labor, but it still doesn't mean you will give birth in the next 24 - 48 hours. Even those symptoms can last different lengths of time for different pregnancies. There are many more symptoms, too.

Most women don't have all the symptoms, or even the same symptoms with different pregnancies. That's why it's sooo difficult to predict anything.

It's frustrating, I know!! Just make sure you are well rested for the workout you're about to go through. Deliberately try to sleep more - you'll be glad you did! They don't call it "labor" for nothing!

By Averysmama on Saturday, January 17, 2004 - 10:22 am:

I don't remember a wet feeling. But I did lose my mucous plug 2 days before giving birth. The baby "dropped" probably a week before she was born. I started having contractions and then back labor. My dd was face up which is why I had bad back labor. You may want to get checked to make sure your water isn't leaking. That may be why you have alot of wetness.

By Newbabysarah on Saturday, January 17, 2004 - 02:05 pm:

I experienced those symtoms in the last 4 weeks of my pregnancy. The day I went into labor I was having contractions every 10 minutes and after 3 hours of that (it wasn't painful at this point) my water broke while I was napping. When my water broke I knew it was time and my dd was born 7 hours later because I pushed for 2 and a half hours. ((((((((((TONYA)))))))))) I think the worst thing about the entire event was the episiotomy. I hope you have the best experience you can possibly have.

By Jodie on Saturday, January 17, 2004 - 03:57 pm:

Big hugs for you Tonya . I have one DS. I do remember having excessive discharge a couple days before the bloody show. Another couple days later my water broke and I went into back labor and 32 hours later DS was born !!
Yes DS did calm down / quieten down last couple of weeks of gestation. It was as if he had no more room to move in there ! It was a bit of a relief as ds was a kicker the last few months.
Goodluck to you.

By Pamt on Saturday, January 17, 2004 - 04:00 pm:

I had a lot of clear discharge during the entire last trimester with both of mine, never had any back labor even during actual labor (and my second was born naturally so I definitely felt all of my labor pains--LOL). I am tall (5'9") and have a long torso, so my babies had plenty of room to stretch out, so I never had babies in my ribs or difficulty breathing. They were both very low the whole time and dropped even lower about a month before birth. They did seem to slow down moving the last few weeks, but more because there wasn't much room left to move. I hate to say, I was miserable, having contractions and all that good stuff and saw that due date come and go with no baby. :( I had actually been dilated 5 cm for TWO WEEKS with my second and still had to be induced. He was overdue and I wasn't producing enough amniotic fluid. Hang in there. I know you're miserable, but that baby won't come until she's ready.

HOW YOU FEELING? Just checking to see if you are doing better. Hope it happens soon for you.

By Mrsclark on Sunday, January 18, 2004 - 08:52 am:

17 years is too long for this old brain to remember! But my water broke at 9:30 p.m. and muffin man was born at 12:20 a.m. so it was an okay one. Don't remember much else. Hopefully you will not respond to these posts because you don't have a lap top in the hospital! :) Congrats, it will be soon!!!

By Dawnk777 on Sunday, January 18, 2004 - 04:56 pm:

9:30 and born 3 hours later? Man were you lucky. Water broke around midnight and only born at 8:18pm because I had a c-section. Then water broke around 4am and not born until 4:30pm and only because I had another c-section. Then I quit!

By Jjandmom on Sunday, January 18, 2004 - 11:05 pm:
