Silverware

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive January 2004: Silverware
By Sunny on Thursday, January 15, 2004 - 05:12 pm:

Without looking, do you know how many forks, spoons and knives are in your silverware drawer?
I don't because they seem to be disappearing!
I kept losing spoons, so I bought a cheap, but sturdy set of new silverware and extra spoons. Almost half the set has disappeared. I need more spoons. The only utensil I have plenty of is knives. Do you think that's because I don't let the younger kids use them?

LOL Sunny. We just had some people over for dinner on Sunday and that's when I realized that we need more silverware! I don't know where it's all gone to. We only eat in the kitchen and dining room so silverware shouldn't travel outside of that area.
It's kind of like socks!

I caught DH with one of our nice "butter knives" outside in the shed. He was using it as a tool. Not sure where the rest of it has gone!

I have caught my kids throwing them away. They will slip the fork on the plate and go to dump the plate and not thinking throw the fork away. I have tons of silverware now. I went out and bought a couple sets and then I came accross some at a yard sale/estate sale and bought those up too. I had gotten down to seven forks with six people that wasn't going to do...

I agree just like socks...

I can't even tell you how many times I have lost my GOOOOOOOOD KNIVES in use by DH as a tool. He swears he didn't use my incredible bread knife. It's been missing for about 4 years now....and I recall taking it out of the garage TWICE! I know it is somewhere out there again.

As for the other utensils. NO ONE is allowed to leave the house w/ a utensil unless it is plastic. After our wedding gifts, I reloaded my supplies and have kept a watchful eye over them.

I have NO idea! I don't think I even have a complete matching set. All miss matched pieces I've collected over the years, but I don't care. LOL!

I have no idea and I keep wondering what happens to my spoons. We even bought some new ones, but it still seems like we are ALWAYS running out. I don't even send the real spoons to school, either. I send my kids with plastic spoons. We must have little gremlins in our houses, don't you think?

We have the same problem with spoons-I have enough of everything else. I guess they got thrown away by me at some point. I was just trying to decide whether I should just buy a whole new set or just try to order the matching spoons.

I finally bought a set not too long ago. I think it's a serving of 12, but it has 24 teaspoons and we never run out! LOL! There was a time we ended up with only 2 teaspoons. We literally had lost them or something. I said "Forget it! I'm buying a set!" I found them for a great price at a Tuesday Morning store.

For us it's knives. Where have they all gone? Forks and spoons - tons! I've even supplemented the knives, but they seem to have gone to the same place as half the pairs of my black socks.

I can't tell you how many times I've picked a spoon out of the trash can or found one hidden under the sofa (nevermind that I have a rule about no eating in the living room). I currently have 3 different patterns of silverware in the drawer, and amazingly still have a couple of pieces from when we were first married! LOL But, in this house, all spoons have to pass the ice cream test, so I tend to get a little upset when they go missing. :)

I think we're missing a spoon and a fork. Ours is service for 8 and we got them as a wedding present, so we've had them almost 12 years. They're Unidia and of course they discontinued the pattern so I can't get any more that match. I have rescued some from the trash before, too! It's suprising I don't lose more with the daycare kids. Maybe I should get a really cheap set for them. Or maybe I should get a nice set for us! lol

Sunny, I love the "Ice cream test"! Too funny, but I kwym. :)
