No school today...

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive January 2004: No school today...
By Kernkate on Thursday, January 15, 2004 - 07:27 am:

because we got 7 inches of snow overnight, and the windchill is -15 here. The wind is whipping around and making for dangerous driving conditions.
The thing that stinks is we finally get enough snow to go sleigh riding on the kids new sleds they got for Christmas, but it way to cold to even step outside.
Good day to get everyone to clean their bedrooms.:)

By Dawnk777 on Thursday, January 15, 2004 - 07:33 am:

I always hated it when it finally snowed and then got bitterly cold! Have fun cleaning!

By Kate on Thursday, January 15, 2004 - 07:34 am:

No school here either, due to the temps. YAY!

By Colette on Thursday, January 15, 2004 - 07:43 am:

I am wondering exactly how cold it's going to get here before they cancel school. It's -5 right now, supposed to go to -10 to -20 with wind chills of -40 this afternoon. Frostbite within 10 minutes for uncovered skin! Hope it's that nice, fluffy, powdery snow instead of the the heavy wet stuff!!

By Trina~moderator on Thursday, January 15, 2004 - 07:48 am:

One hour delay here in CT. We only got a couple inches of snow. Negative wind chill factors... BRRRRR!!

By Trisa on Thursday, January 15, 2004 - 07:58 am:

We were to get 3-6 inch of snow. We got 2.
Only a 2 hour delay here and my son is not happy.
He so wanted the day off.

By Marg on Thursday, January 15, 2004 - 08:03 am:

dh has a 2 hours delay and the kid's school is on time, boy are they unhappy! lol!

By Robin on Thursday, January 15, 2004 - 08:19 am:

We are out due to the cold. It is 4 degrees here. We are going to brave the cold later and go tubing down our teeny, tiny backyard hill. It is too cold (for me anyways) to brave the hill at the park!

By Annie2871 on Thursday, January 15, 2004 - 08:23 am:

Unbelievable that you guys are all that cold and yesterday here in Arkansas the temps were in the 60's. I want some cold temps - well, cold in the 30's, not in the single digits or below zero range.

Stay Warm Ladies!!!

By Lauram on Thursday, January 15, 2004 - 09:36 am:

We have no school too. It was a blessing as my youngest has pneumonia and I was dreading dragging him out so I could bring the older one to school.

By Colette on Thursday, January 15, 2004 - 01:32 pm:

Ok, now all of the towns around me have canceled school for tomorrow EXCEPT mine. Grrrr.....

By Tonya on Thursday, January 15, 2004 - 01:49 pm:

We had school and we got 6 inches in total yesterday. Th eroads were Ok this morning but it is cold only 8 I think they said right now.

By Dawnk777 on Thursday, January 15, 2004 - 02:28 pm:

They don't cancel school for us until the temp itself is way below zero! I remember having to get my older daughter to school 2 days when it was bitterly cold and then finally on the Friday they cancelled school. I don't remember how cold it was that day, though. Maybe 10-15 below zero.

By Colette on Thursday, January 15, 2004 - 05:53 pm:

Ok, they FINALLY, after 279 other schools canceled, that we could have tomorrow off too. It is now supposed to be -10 to -20 with a windchill of up to -45.

YEAH!! 4 DAY WEEKEND :0)

By Kate on Thursday, January 15, 2004 - 05:57 pm:

YAY! I think we're going to be closed AGAIN tomorrow. Right now with the wind chill we are at -19. It's supposed to get worse throughout the night and tomorrow morning. The city schools are already closed and when they close, our private school usually does because they lose a lot of the city buses that they count on to bring in the kids from all over the place. This will make a five day weekend for us! I'm very down on my school right now and this break is very nice.

By Bobbie on Thursday, January 15, 2004 - 08:12 pm:

We had a two hour delay today due to Ice on the roads. We got the tail end of the storm from Michigan and it hit a warm from coming up from down south and dropped a bunch of sleet on us. Out temps this morning were like 9 degrees with a wind chill of -15. So not as cold as some of you, thank God... Come on Spring....

By Dawnk777 on Thursday, January 15, 2004 - 08:12 pm:

Kate, do you live out east somewhere? Although, last week, we had -20 windchills here in WI and they made us go to school. We had indoor recess that day, though.

By Kernkate on Friday, January 16, 2004 - 09:48 am:

Our school was also closed here for another day. Its just to bitter and with the cold, our roads are still very snow covered and slippey.
Temp here now is 0 with windchill of -15. Its suppose to be 28 tomorrow....~~~~HEAT WAVE~~~~
Stay warm!!:)
