Brrrrrr!

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive January 2004: Brrrrrr!
By Colette on Wednesday, January 14, 2004 - 07:56 am:

It's -12 with a windchill of -25. Exposed skin will get frostbitten after 20 minutes and lucky me, I have bus/walker duty at school. Think of the people who make sure your kids get into the school buildings safely today!

By Eve on Wednesday, January 14, 2004 - 08:02 am:

I've been thinking "Buuurrrr" myself, Colette! I think it was 15 below yesterday morning here in CT. I have had to turn the heat up a bit in the house. It just doesn't feel as warm and toasty as it usually does. Our poor oil bill. Talk about ouch. :(

By Marg on Wednesday, January 14, 2004 - 08:36 am:

I was just going to post to people in New England. The weather channel said New Hampshire is -25 and the wind chill feels like -95!

Praying for all of your safety in this extremely cold weather!

By Kernkate on Wednesday, January 14, 2004 - 08:43 am:

I guess we are having a heat wave here. It is 1 with a windchill of -5. Tomorrow is suppose to be bitter and we are expecting 2-6 inches of snow.
Can't wait for spring:) Stay warm everyone!

By Fraggle on Wednesday, January 14, 2004 - 09:16 am:

It is so cold today in Maine-I think our possible high for today is -10 to 5. Yesterday felt balmy at 32!

By Dawnk777 on Wednesday, January 14, 2004 - 09:44 am:

Wow, that's cold! Brrr! We are in the high 20's and snowing here in WI.

Today
Snow...breezy. Snow accumulation of up to 3 inches. Blowing and drifting snow during the afternoon. Highs in the upper 20s. Southwest winds 10 to 15 mph shifting to the north 15 to 25 mph with gusts to around 40 mph in the afternoon

The weather man said the temps will drop this afternoon. I was having fun outside today throwing a tennis ball for my dog. She loved it, too!

By Mommyathome on Wednesday, January 14, 2004 - 10:39 am:

We are in a heatwave too! 0 at night and up to about 35 in the day. It really isn't that bad as long as the sun is out. All of our snow is melting away. I hope we get another storm soon.

By Trina~moderator on Wednesday, January 14, 2004 - 11:18 am:

DD forgot her mittens this morning. Normally I would have just let her suffer the consequences but because of the frigid temps and high risk of frost bite I drove home and got them for her.

BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!

By Melanie on Wednesday, January 14, 2004 - 11:38 am:

You poor things!!!! That is just too cold!!! I hope it ends soon.

Trina, you know I am all for natural consequences doing the teaching, but I would have gone back for those mittens today as well! :)

By Tonya on Wednesday, January 14, 2004 - 11:49 am:

Let's see it is right now under 20 here. THe snow storm started before 9am and we have already gained 2-3 inches and have 4-5 more coming before night fall. YUCK YUCK YUCK.

Bring on the spring.

By Debbie on Wednesday, January 14, 2004 - 11:52 am:

We are in the 20's, but it is really windy, so the windchill is in the teens. We are suppose to get a few inches of snow this afternoon/night with falling temps. YUK!!!

By Dawnk777 on Wednesday, January 14, 2004 - 12:13 pm:

Trina, I would have gone back for the mittens, too.

By Bka on Wednesday, January 14, 2004 - 12:27 pm:

But Tonya you wanted all the snow HA HA HA kim

By Pamt on Wednesday, January 14, 2004 - 03:31 pm:

I guess you'd hate for me to mention that it's currently 70 degrees in SE Louisiana then, wouldn't you? *eg* Had to turn on the a/c last night.

Seriously though, be careful and bundle up!!

By Trisa on Wednesday, January 14, 2004 - 03:34 pm:

We are to get 3-6 inch of snow tonight. My son can't wait!

By Dawnk777 on Wednesday, January 14, 2004 - 05:53 pm:

We were in the 20's most of the day, but it's going to be in the teens pretty soon, I think. My thermometer said 21 the last time I looked. Supposed to be in the single digits by morning.

By Andi on Wednesday, January 14, 2004 - 08:04 pm:

Well it was sunny and beautiful here today, it was in the mid 70's. We went to the beach and built Sand Castles then had lunch out on the pier. Growing up in California my whole life I think I would die if I had to live in all that cold weather. :) I wouldn't know what to do in the snow.

By Colette on Wednesday, January 14, 2004 - 08:08 pm:

lucky you andi, I drove along the beach despite the frigid temps. It was, as always, beautiful.

By Dawnk777 on Wednesday, January 14, 2004 - 11:51 pm:

We are down to 12 degrees now, after a high of 29 around lunchtime! The windchill is -2.

By Eve on Thursday, January 15, 2004 - 08:00 pm:

TALK ABOUT BUUURRRR! With the wind chill it's 23 below zero right now and tonight should be closer to 50 below zero. Yikes! I talked to my Mom in NH and schools are already canceled there and in MA. They are expecting 65 below! 5 mintues at the bus stop and they would be feeling frost bite! So, they just canceled everything school related.

I put and extra blanket on all of our beds! I hope everyone stays warm tonight.:)

By Trina~moderator on Thursday, January 15, 2004 - 08:06 pm:

I'm supposed to chaperone a field trip for DS's class tomorrow. There was talk of a possible delay due to difficulty starting the buses in these frigid temps but I don't think they'll go so far as cancel school. We'll see...

It was cold as heck tonight when I took DS to Rec. Hoops! Yikes! We ran in and out of the building.

Here's a visual that makes me feel better. :)

Wow, that's cold! We usually turn our furnace down to 60 at night, but on nights that cold, we usually manually change to something bit higher. It just gets soooo cold in our house, then.

We are in the teens now and it's only supposed to drop a few more degrees overnight.

By Colette on Thursday, January 15, 2004 - 10:54 pm:

currently -9 with a windchill of -24. I turned my heat up to 70, it's usually on 65.

By Eve on Friday, January 16, 2004 - 07:57 am:

No school in our town today...and my DD has stripped off her clothes! Aggh! LOL! :)

By Trisa on Friday, January 16, 2004 - 08:19 am:

lol Eve my dd used to do that.
Its -9 here right now.

By Sunny on Friday, January 16, 2004 - 09:40 am:

A preview of what's to come...

coneflower

It will get here eventually!

By Trina~moderator on Friday, January 16, 2004 - 09:41 am:

NO SCHOOL in my town either due to the ridiculous wind chill factors. I just realized this will make a 4 day weekend. text description

Eve, when we're home B is constantly running around in her undies. Even when it's THIS cold! Right now she's wearing a leotard and pretending she's a puppy. Kids.... :)

By Trina~moderator on Friday, January 16, 2004 - 09:42 am:

Sunny, THANKS! I needed that!

By Dawnk777 on Friday, January 16, 2004 - 11:55 am:

20's here, so it's actually pretty nice outside.
