Scrapbooking Party, help....

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive January 2004: Scrapbooking Party, help....

My daughter just informed me that for her 11th b~day she wants to have a scrapbooking party. I thought this was a great idea except for the fact that I have never really scrapbooked. I am willing to try and put this together but how would you make it fun for 10 and 11 year old girls? :)

I think it depends on how much money you want to spend to do this.

Yvonne,
Thanks for the site!

Bobbie,
I know that a normal party ranges from 12-15 per child so I wouldn't mind spending that. Most of the girls own books already but I thought it would be nice to make our own.

Keep the ideas coming girls...I need them, with my non~artistic self! LOL :)

Basically each page of a scrap book is a theme page. You take a group of like pictures and you put them together. For the girls I would think that you wouldn't need to go expensive with the stuff. I would just buy a couple of packs of card stock (the stuff you use with the printer to make cards), a hole punch, fancy scissors (they have ones that make scallops, zigzags at Joann Fabrics fairly cheap) construction paper, fine tip markers, stickers, two sided tape to hold the pictures on, regular scissors, paper cutter, ribbon to tie the pages together, glue sticks, regular glue and glitter, Gel pens, stencils, Stamps and stamp pads Stuff like that. Basically just make up a basket of this and that... In the invites tell them it is a scrapbooking party and ask them to bring a certain number of pictures. Parties I have been to have suggested 5 to 10. But since you want to do a whole book maybe just tell them you will be making a scrapbook and to bring pictures. It is in my opinion that kids in that age range are very creative if given a miss mash of stuff and left to their own devices. I am sure they will have a great time. And maybe as the front page or last page you can have everyone at the party sign each others book and have them put the date. Maybe if possible take a group picture of them all and then have it put on that page.

Here is a link for some sample page layouts.

Good advice above. Another idea, make sure YOU take pictures of the party and send them out with the Thank You cards, and the kids can add to their scrapbook.

Also dont feel as if you need to get them the scrapbook, they can get pricey. Maybe have it a create a page party???

Set up a table and attach with tape a grocery bag (the plasic kind) at each girls "station" that way the garbage can be put right in and the table wont be so messy.

Many girls, as you know, probably have their own sitckers. Dont invest alot in stickers, they can break you, have them bring their own. Some girls might have their own supplies too.

Add make up, food, music and a movie and VIOLA instant great party!

What about borrowing or buying a Polaroid camera? Then, they can snap fun photos of themselves at the party and do a page from that too. :)

Check at the dollar store, Stori. My Mom found some 12x12 paper there. I'm not sure if they would have scissors or stickers. Don't forget some sort of glue or double sided tape (Photo safe). You got a good list above. It can be really pricey, so I would really make a list of what you need ahead of time. It adds up!

I would give a gift bag. Put a couple pieces of paper, stickers, and a pair of fun scissors. Put on the invite to bring their scrapbooking stuff to share.

Stori, my cousin is 11 and scraps. I'll ask her what would be fun. She and my aunt both have been doing it for years! Sounds like a fun idea though!

Another thought (if it would be okay with dd) in the invites tell them instead of traditional gifts to buy scrap booking supplies that all the girls can share and to bring __# of pictures. Then you buy all the standard supplies. Card stock, glues, etc... My DD would probably do this because often she isn't to impressed with traditional gifts. What would also be good would be a digital camera (if you don't have one ask someone that does to borrow theirs). You could take shots and quickly print them off on standard printer paper. I am thinking that taking the card stock and using it as the pages, punching three holes per page and tying them together with pretty ribbon would be good enough. Like stated above a traditional scrap book can run you into some money. As can all the traditional scrap booking material. In this case I am thinking quanity of stuff would out way quality of stuff. I would buy all the supplies to set up the "books" and the standard supplies and let them bring the novelty items (stickers, stamps, maybe even the scissors) to share... Let them know in the invite that when they RSVP you can give them suggestions of what to bring so you don't end up with a hundred sheets of stickers and make a list of what you think would be a good idea.. And the plastic bag taped to the table is a good idea.. And damp wash rags are also good so they can wipe off any glue from their fingers etc..
