Dr . Laura

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive January 2004: Dr . Laura

Does anyone listen to her on the radio? I think she has alot of good advice, but alot of time I think she can just be plain nasty to people.

By Mommmie on Sunday, January 11, 2004 - 08:16 pm:

I listened to her many many years ago when her show first was syndicated. I've also read of many of her books. I don't listen to her anymore. She's just too hateful. I think it's a scream she abandoned her religion after being so holier than thou with it.

I think she is FULL of hate. At first, I thought she was talking the "true, but tough" talk. And I liked it when she asked the questions other people only thought, like "Why did you have 2 babies with him if you knew all along he was a loser?" I think she really made people think.

But, really, she has had to eat her words so much. She used to say she didn't understand why people went into the military, at all, much less when they then had babies only to be away from them from months at a time. Now her son has an interest in the military.

She also couldn't understand why people would live in rural areas as a SAHM with little kids. If the SAHM felt isolated then it was her fault for living in a rural area.

I remember when she cursed the Internet saying it was evil and she would NEVER have a presence on it or have it in her home or ever use it. And now of course she has her website she brags about.

She believes single moms do not deserve baby showers or gifts or anything that would help the mom. It's her bed let her lay in it, she said. She forgets it's a baby, a life, and should be celebrated regardless. Because if you don't think the baby deserves gifts before he is born, then you don't think he deserves gifts after he is born and then he's just this shunned infant, toddler, grade schooler, high schooler who has spent his life shamed for the circumstance he was born into. How can family do that to a baby? So the circumstances are not perfect, who cares? Nothing is perfect. Dr. Laura doesn't get that.

I'm glad she's not as popular as she used to be.

I liked her at first, when she was first on the radio, but then it seemed like she was downright mean to people and I lost interest. She used to be on a local radio station. I'm not sure she is anymore.

I never listened to her. But I found it a bit odd that her mother died and had laid in her place for days before her body had been discovered. So much for family values....

I think it is easy to sit on the other side of the fence and preach about what is right and what is wrong about the other persons yard (life). This world would be a much better place if we shut our mouths and led by example. Actions speak mountains over words.... and in many cases opinions come a dime a dozen and often they are one sided and uneducated assumptions about the lives of others (the whole until you walk in the shoe of another anology). Often we feel the way we do about ourselves because of the comments of people that don't know the first thing about us. From what I have heard she is mean spirited and constantly flipping on her views to suit the numbers in the polls. Meaning she goes by what is popular opinion which isn't always right.... Things are not black and white but people like her try to make them seem that way. So for those of us that fall in the gray areas of life we are failures. When in actuality she is hiding behind a false face of perfection (has skeletons in her own closset). Thing is... If you preach something long enough and hard enough and you act like you know what you are saying people will believe your every word and follow your instruction. Many "false" prophets are proof of this... People are honestly like lambs, we just want to be one of the flock. So if everyone else thinks she is right she must be right. But in actuality all she is doing is breading ignorance and prejudice. NO one is perfect. No opinion is 100% right... We all fall short... And we are all a work in progress constantly growing and learning. Even the mighty DR Laura...

It sounds like she has too many issues of her OWN to be advising anyone else.

Unfortunately, there are too MANY hate-mongering radio personalities, and, some are surprisingly popular. Rush Limbaugh is another one. He is just a "windbag" who rants on and on and doesn't say anything with substance. However, he's VERY prejudiced and judgmental of anyone who doesn't agree with him.

I sound very judgmental, too, and I apologize if people like him. It's JMHO.

By Bobbie on Sunday, January 11, 2004 - 09:21 pm:

Yeah, Rush Limbaugh is another one. It is my way or the highway. But in secret I am a prescription drug addict or in other words my own life is a living hell. But I can dictate to you what is right and wrong in society because my mind and my soul are so clean... Do as I say, Not as I do.......

I don't like her and don't listen to her. In fact, I was just searching the archives here the other day for something, and cam across another post about Dr. Laura. Looked like the majority was VERY against her.
