If You Could Spend One Afternoon With Any Famous Person.........

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive January 2004: If You Could Spend One Afternoon With Any Famous Person.........
By Hol on Tuesday, January 6, 2004 - 04:18 am:

And ask them ANYTHING you want, WHO would it be?

It doesn't have to be someone in show business. It can be ANY person who is in the news, famous OR infamous. Also, WHY would you choose THAT person?

I think, (after Jesus),I would like to spend the afternoon with Billy Graham, or former President Jimmy Carter. I would love to "pick their brains" about the Bible, and humanitarianism.
(President Carter and his wife help build "Habitat for Humanity" houses, and they are in their seventies!)

We also have a LOCAL hero, here in Rhode Island. His name is Alan Shawn Feinstein. He is a self-made, VERY wealthy man, who gives mostly ALL of his money away to benefit humankind. He donates a lot to fight hunger and homelessness. He also is a VERY strong proponent of education. I would like to ask him HOW he made all his money, and what HIS childhood was like, that made him grow up to be so benevolent. My DS's have met him in school, but I never have.

Probably someone on death row -- maybe Manson or someone -- just to see why they are like they are. Of course, they probably would lie anyway. Of course, my first choice would be, as above, Jesus! Or possibly one of his followers from the Bible...that would be nice! Noah! There we go. Okay, that's more than one. This is a very tough question! But a good one!

I would first choose my Mom and Dad. But, since they aren't in the news....I would probably choose Oprah. I just love her and I love what she does for others. I would love to spend the afternoon talking to her. I think it would be very uplifting!

Dr. Phil..... He is so awesome!!! If everyone had a bit of Dr. Phil in them there would be little relationship problems/divorces and maybe the world would have a bit of common sense. :) LOL

By Momoffour on Tuesday, January 6, 2004 - 12:59 pm:

I would pick God Or Jesus. That would be something

By Missy3 on Tuesday, January 6, 2004 - 01:08 pm:

First of all I would defintely want to see my brother who died in 89. THEN--
God, it would be Dr. Phil, he can straighten me out. Then Ron Popeil(the inventor) he can market all my ideas!! Then maybe James Taylor, to make me relax. Then Colin Powel I should know something about politics, any holocoust vitim, for history reasons. Then I would go for Jason Priestly and Tom Cruise, just so I could be face to face with them-LOL!!

By Blueridgemom on Tuesday, January 6, 2004 - 01:19 pm:

Hands Down: Harry Connick, Jr. In a nice hotel room with a bottle of champagne and a plate of strawberries and chocolate (hey while we are fanatasizing, why not go all out?)

My DH and I have a deal - if he ever gets a chance to sleep with Stevie Nicks (I know I am revealing his age) he can without me being mad and I will take him back. The same goes for me and Harry Connick, Jr. (or Dave Matthews or Toby Keith LOL ALthough I am not sure DH has agreed to all these.)

By Kay on Tuesday, January 6, 2004 - 01:20 pm:

I'll start with a non-famous person - the uncle I never met. Uncle FJ died in WWII when the first guided missile (German) hit his transport ship - the HMT Rohna. Over 1000 lives were lost, he was 19 years old. I feel we have a connection - always have...maybe he's my guardian angel. :)

Famous person - I think Tom Hanks would be an extremely nice person to spend time with, and I think anyone would be comfortable with him.

By Sue3 on Tuesday, January 6, 2004 - 01:41 pm:

Hmmmmm , that really is a hard question.
I will have to go with my gut feeling
and say Mel Gibson.

By Kolbysmom on Tuesday, January 6, 2004 - 01:57 pm:

It's way too hard to pick just one, So, here's my top 5:

1. My grandpa(he died in a car accident when my mom was 6 weeks old).
2. Steven Tyler and/or Brad Whitford. These guys pulled me through a VERY rough patch(suicide attempt, parents divorce, etc) without even knowing they were helping. Much more than rockstars to me.
3. Walt Disney
4. Charles Mansion
5. Keefer Sutherland

By Paulas on Tuesday, January 6, 2004 - 02:14 pm:

That's a tough one. Although my dad and I had a closer relationship I think I would pick my mom. Of course, I would have to have my kids with me so they could meet their grandma since they were born after she passed away. Maybe both mom and dad together.
After that, Jesus.
Then maybe Dr. Phil

By Trina~moderator on Tuesday, January 6, 2004 - 04:46 pm:

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. :)

By Bellajoe on Tuesday, January 6, 2004 - 05:06 pm:

I would love to talk with my Dad again. He died when i was 14 and it would be nice if he could have met my dh and kids. They would all be crazy about each other!

Famous people....I would love to talk to Oprah, or Tom Hanks. He just seems so cool and relaxed.

By Bea on Tuesday, January 6, 2004 - 05:14 pm:

Non-famous would be my Dad. I really miss him. I'd want it to be the Dad I lost to Alzheimers.

Historical would be John and Abigail Adams. I think John helped shape our country more than any other founding father and Abigail was perhaps the only female with any impute into the beginnings of the USA.

Now-famous Viggo Mortenson. Not only is he gorgeous, but he paints and writes poetry. Now THAT'S a MAN I COULD LOVE!!! LOL

By Fraggle on Tuesday, January 6, 2004 - 05:39 pm:

My DH's father, he died before I met my husband and everyone says that DH is a lot like his Dad.
Of course, I would share my afternoon with a lot of other people :).

If I had to pick a living person-I would have to say John Travolta. I can watch most of his movies over and over again-I just wonder what he is really like.

By Wandilu on Tuesday, January 6, 2004 - 11:18 pm:

first,i would love to meet my three children that i lost through miscarriages.i would like to see if they were boys or girls, and tell them that i love them and tell them about their two sisters and brother.then,i think i would like to visit with elizabeth taylor.i admire her for how she has battled weight issues and other health issues and seems to keep on going.THEN,i would LOOOOVVVEEE to spend time with SAM ELLIOTT !!!! he's my perfect idea of a MAN !!!not so much in his newer movies, but in "mask"with cher,or in his westerns.......ok,got to quit talking about him..but ,then again, maybe i will just go and put Mask in the vcr..........." nite,ya'll "

By Pamt on Tuesday, January 6, 2004 - 11:52 pm:

Well, I certainly can't limit it to one. DH and I have this conversation fairly often and he know that I have all of these imaginary "dinner parties" that I want to have. I'm always joking about when we have "that party that we invite *insert name* to" with him. So...here are my dinner party guest lists:

My Christian dinner party would include Jesus, Peter, Paul, Samuel, and David. Jesus is a fairly obvious choice, Peter was a big screw-up whose heart was in the right place (ditto David), Samuel is just cool and had a cool job, and Paul was such a dynamic "in-your-face" kind of guy with a lot of awesome stories to tell.

My literary dinner party would include Jane Austen, C.S. Lewis, Harper Lee, Lee Smith, Anne Tyler, Louisa May Alcott, Laura Ingalls Wilder, and Ernest Gaines. Love the way they all write and would love to talk books about them and hear their stories about their stories.

My comedy dinner party would include David Letterman, Billy Crystal, Steve Martin, Ben Stiller, and Gary Larson (artist who draws the Far Side). I love to laugh and they all make me laugh so hard. They all tend to have a sophisticated (mostly) dry wit and seem to be really smart guys underneath it all.

My random historical figure dinner party would include Amelia Earhart, Helen Keller, Elizabeth Blackwell, Florence Nightingale, and Susan B. Anthony. These are all really strong women from history who broke with convention and made a difference in the world without worrying about what others thought of them.

By Hol on Wednesday, January 7, 2004 - 12:57 am:

Wow, you guys are AWESOME! A lot of thought went into your answers! Pamt, I like the idea of your "dinner parties".

You all picked people that have passed on, as well as people still with us. If that is the case, for me, I would just LOVE to be able to spend that afternoon with my beloved, late son, Dan, who passed away seven years ago at 20 y/o. However, I wouldn't want to see the afternoon end. I often play the country song, "One More Day" (I forget who sings it. The CD is in my car). It came out after 9/11, and I'm sure it became THE song for a lot of people at that time.

I would also LOVE to see my Dad again. I was 37 when he passed in 1985. I am a middle-aged woman, now. I would LOVE it if my adopted DS's could meet him. I KNOW that he sees THEM from Heaven, but I would love to have them meet him. (Someday).

Kay, that is very interesting, what you said about your uncle, and your connection to him. I have always felt that way about my paternal great-grandma. I have a picture of her. It is sepia toned, in an antique frame, and she is wearing a high-collared white blouse of the day, and an upswept hair style. She lived all of her life in England. My GRANDMA was born in 1892, so HER Mom was probably born around 1870 or so. A lot of people think that I look like her. (My Dad thought so).
It will be really exciting to see our loved ones again, and meet all of the ones who came before us.
I think a FAMOUS, deceased person that I'd like to meet, would be Abraham Lincoln. Oh yes, and Eve. I'd like to "thank" her for all the months of "Aunt Flo" that I endured, until I was blessed with menopause. LOL!

By Hol on Wednesday, January 7, 2004 - 12:59 am:

I THINK it's "Diamond Rio" that sings "One More Day".

By Marg on Wednesday, January 7, 2004 - 06:37 am:

I hesitated to post, famous people "don't impress me much, anymore."

Love to sit with Jesus and my mom and my grandparents. How about Adam and Eve. And I would tell them, if you didn't do it, I would've eventually, lol! I often think of that, people say if Eve wouldn't have been tempted, but who isn't?lol!

By Newbabysarah on Thursday, January 8, 2004 - 09:23 am:

I would have to say John Travolta (after Jesus of course!). I just think he is so cool and I love him. After that it would be Brendan Fraser. My hubby knows that I think he's a cutie so he probably wouldn't let me meet him. But I can still dream about it, right?
