My new baby girls

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive January 2004: My new baby girls
By Merno on Sunday, January 4, 2004 - 09:45 pm:

It has been awhile since I've been on but I wanted to share some great news. On December 10th I delivered two healthy baby girls! My sister, Bellajoe, announced their births awhile back but I thought I'd add my two cents.

I carried the twins to 38 1/2 weeks when a doctor finally took pity on me and agreed to induce. I can't even tell you how miserable I was. That is the reason I haven't been on in so long, just too tired when I finally had time to get on the net. Anyway, so I was walking around for about 2 weeks 4 plus centimeters dilated, over 50% effaced and the baby had dropped.

They gave me pitocin at around 1:30 pm and broke my water and started the epidural. Paige was born easily 8:08pm with me pushing through one contraction. Lily did fall into place behind her sister (head down) but after 1/2 an hour of pushing and the use of forcepts the doctor didn't like what she was seeing so Lily was born with a C-section. She was pale and quiet when she came out but after a minute was howling. It was pretty scarey for a minute but all turned out well. They are both good sizes. They are eating well and gaining weight quickly. They are sleeping much of the day and night.
Their big brother, Dylan, is 28 months and coping the best he can. He really had no idea what was coming, he just didn't understand. So, he could be acting much worse.
Patti is visting this week and helping out with the girls, I'm sure she will check in from time to time.

Wow, twins! Congratulations, are they identical? How exciting!! I have twin cousins that are girls but not identical and they were so much fun as little ones. You gave them beautiful names. Congratulations again to your family.

By Merno on Tuesday, January 20, 2004 - 10:38 pm:

HI! Me again. It is so hard to find a moment to sit down and type!! Sometimes I'm able to get to this site but get wrapped up in reading rather than typing!

Lily and Paige are not identical. They have both already gained over 3 pounds each!!!! and have pudgy little thighs :)

They are sleeping well at night (knock on wood) and my husband gets up to help feed them (we bottle feed). Our son Dylan has his moments when he really doesn't want them around but in general is pretty good. He is finally sleeping through the crying or fussing at night, so that is a relief.

I am feeling much better since the pregnancy is over. You all know how much you wanted your single babies out, I felt like that for about 4 months. Towards the end I wasn't just uncomfortable, I hurt all the time. I get better sleep now than I did when I was pregnant.

Thanks for the good wishes. I'll hop on here whenever I can.

Merno, I can feel for you. Mine are now 6 and will be 7 in March. It will go fast. Just as you think you are getting all under control they will be self reliant and need a lot less care. LOL My girls are also not identical and honestly I like it because they are treated as indivduals instead of tiwns. I have identical twin cousins and my great grandma was an identical twin and I learned early on in life how hard it can be for an identical twin. The girls are so different. Night and day. They are my joy, my girls.. And I wouldn't trade anything for either of them. I am a proud mama of twins... and all the sleepless nights and double diaper duty and juggling babies is so worth it. Big hugs and many blessings.

Wow, congratulations!! I love the names, too - both Lily & Paige have been on my "list". I can't even imagine how busy you're going to be!

By Merno on Wednesday, January 21, 2004 - 02:17 pm:

I've got a few minutes, belie e it or not all three (I have a 2 year old boy too) are napping right now.
I honestly don't think of them as "twins", I usually just refer to them as "the girls". They are already so different from each other, in looks and personality. I think it would be hard to be or have identical twins. Just because for some reason people expect them to be the same person.
Donna, love the picture of your nieces! I have a cousin who is expecting twins in April, both boys and they believe they are identical. She, my cousin, has identical twin brothers. Say a prayer for her, she is at about 25 weeks and is having some spotting and some contractions. Last I spoke with her, she was on bedrest and taking medicine to stop the contractions. so far the medicine is working.

Congratulations!!! And I just love their names!

By Bobbie on Wednesday, January 21, 2004 - 10:54 pm:

Merno, I have not raised my girls as Twins. They know they are and if you ask them who is older ect. they will tell you they are twins. But they don't say this is my twin and I don't say these are my twins. I guess because of them being so different it really doesn't seem like they are twins until an age issue is brought up. They feel like they have a special secret that makes them different from everyone else. LOL And I think they like not being looked at as the twins. And I call mine "the girls" or "my girls" too. And I had a just turned 5 year old and a 7 year old when I had the girls. It was rough but in time everything got way easier..
