Who likes home depot?

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive January 2004: Who likes home depot?
By Mrse on Saturday, January 3, 2004 - 06:35 pm:

We just got a home depot in our area, before christmas. My sister and I just got back from their, wow do they have alot of stuff! I got tired before we even got through the store. Has anyone bought kitchen cabinets from them? Just wondering if anyone had any problems, with them. We have alot of people here, who won't even go into the store, as they think it is taking away from our local hardware store, but they said the same thing about superstore when it came, and they sure are not lacking in business.

My husband said the same thing when one opened up around here. He will now go in, but still says he doesn't like it! LOL

The advantage Home Depot has over the smaller hardware stores is volume. They can hold more inventory and keep a wider variety of items. I wanted to buy carpeting from them, and have them install it, but was told that I would need to have the room cleared out first. I decided to go to a regular carpet store who would move my furniture for me. I don't know if you would also want them to install the cabinets for you, but I'd check their policy first before buying.

We have spent so much money in Home Depot! We get practically everything there.......paint, wallpaper, doors, plumbing fixtures, lawn equipment, grills, blinds......

We live in an area that has chased out all the stores. We have a Kmart, Martin's and Food Lion. Hopefully in 2005 we will have a Super Walmart (or whatever they call them) and some other stores. Our township allows farm land for housing but for retail business the people refuse it! I like going to our local hardware store on the mountain when I need something specific or a specific service, they can't compare to the big companies, but I still like to look and buy things from the bigger retailers.

I love Home Depot my whole house has been done by Home depot in one way or the other. We also have K-mart, Meijer, Wal-Mart and any other store you can think of and every fast food resturant you can name all within 2 minutes of my house. I live in the city so we have everything Malls and all.

They just did two rooms of carpet for me yesterday good job and good price.

Marg....that sounds like us. The nearest shopping town is about 15 minutes away, and they have a K-mart, Albertsons, and a Hardware store LOL. There are some locally owned small businesses as well. We did get a Wal-mart though...it opens in 3 weeks!!!!! I'm sure that will boot K-mart out the door. (hopefully...our K-mart is horribly filthy...I don't like going there)

I would LOVE a Home Depot. I love that place :) We always spend hours in there, everytime we go.

I do shop at Home Depot, had them do a carpet job when we bought this house. If you are on a tight schedule do not count on them though. WE ordered carpet 6 weeks before we closed and found out the day of closing that the carpet never came it and HAD to get in stock carpet. They do hire sub contractors, so any work is not Home Depot work, just their products.

DH and I go to Home Depot (or Lowes or Sams Club) for date night. There is just something about dreaming of all the things I wish we could do.

I find it to be romantic....sharing your dreams and such.

I also love when DH goes grocery shopping with me.

We don't have a Home Depot or a Lowes that is close to us. We have a Barr Lumber.

By Marg on Sunday, January 4, 2004 - 07:08 am:

LOL Robin, Your Kmart sounds like our Kmart, it's not dirty, but there usually is only 1 cashier! ARGHHHHH!!! I can't wait until we get more stores...

Dana, that is really sweet! The day before Christmas dh brought me a house plan (he sketched it out himself) of our dream house! Right now there is no use in building a dream house with our littlest one if everyone knows what I mean, it's like having a mini-hurricane at times lol! It was the best Christmas present dh has ever given me and it's everything we ever wanted in a house. Sounds silly doesn't it, it's just a piece of paper, but I have kept it, and he should've been an architect.

The K-marts in our area are disgusting too - actually there are only 1 or 2 left.....and that's fine with me.

We just spent yesterday first at Home Depot and then at Home Depot Expo (we love Expo, it is awesome!) where we bought tile for the counter tops in our kitchen we are remodeling and a new mirror for over the fireplace. We have bought kitchen cabinets from them twice now (we remodeled the kitchen in our last house too) and have been quite happy with them. We also have remodeled all three bathrooms in our current home and both bathrooms in our previous home with Home Depot.

By Mommyathome on Sunday, January 4, 2004 - 10:33 am:

Trading Spaces always uses Home Depot. When they were doing thier $100K show, they bought the kitchen cabinets from Home Depot and were talking about how good the quality is. (Of course, Home Depot was their sponsor!) I've not heard anything negative about Home Depots products!

The carpet issue must depend on the area. We bought the carpet in our last house from a furniture store, and had to have the rooms completely cleared before they showed up.

By Renee on Sunday, January 4, 2004 - 07:55 pm:

We spend so much of our time at Home Depot. We just got done building our home and will admit we cheated and bought all of our lights at Lowes. :) But for doing our finishing work on our basement, we are buying everything at Home Depot. You can't beat their prices.

i have a special fondness for home depot.almost five yrs ago,my son went there to get a part-time job,and wound up with a wife !!and now baby #3 is on the way !!!!!he met a wonderful girl shortly after getting hired, and the rest is history !!!!!

Aggh, Home Depot. Our home away from home. :)

We purchased cabinets at Home Depot and they've been great. We didn't have them install them, we did it ourselves. They were really good with the measuring and designing. They gave us a lot of tips. I would use them again.

By Fraggle on Monday, January 5, 2004 - 08:59 pm:

DH is always at Home Depot. We haven't bought kitchen cabinets there but have bought a lot of other stuff to remodel our house. Just recently, we actually had gone to two places that specializes in bathroom fixtures that were recommended by our plumber-one place the guy was so rude-it was like we were wasting his time and the other place they lost the first part of our order somewhere in their warehouse and we ended up going to Home Depot to order our fixtures, sinks, shower walls, cabinets for a lower price and for the same exact things we had picked out at the specialty place. The plumber tried to tell us that quality is different on the items ordered from Home Depot versus a specialty place.

Because we were happy with Home Depot, we have already started to order the fixtures, etc. to remodel the girl's bathroom.

I don't care for Home Depot at all. First of all, at OUR local one, the morale must be very bad among the employees, because I never encounter any of the "helpful hardware folks", like they advertise on TV. They all act like they hate their jobs. LOL!

I DO like Lowe's. The one here is nicer than Home Depot. We bought some faucets that we were really pleased with.

When we were in Nebraska, there was a chain out there called Menard's. THAT was a great store!

I STILL like the smaller hardware stores, tho. The Mom and Pop stores, or the Ace Hardware, or True Value. I can find what I am looking for easier, without having to walk two miles inside the store.
