Frustrated with the "fine print" in life...

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive January 2004: Frustrated with the "fine print" in life...
By Mommyathome on Wednesday, December 31, 2003 - 10:25 pm:

It seems as if everything has "fine print" to go along with it.

My most recent encounter....
Both of our cars are do for registration this month. Yeah, it's the last day of the month, and we put it off to the very last day. So, we happily go into the office to get our registration paid for and to pick up our new little stickers. We go in, hand in our papers and the lady says "I need to see your inspection papers"...I say "well, we had both cars inspected last year." (Utah just made a new *rule* over the past year or two that we only have to inspect our cars every other year, rather than every year) The lady looks at her computer again and says "well, you DID have them inspected last year, but that was the "off" year for you...you didn't have to do it. But you DO have to do it this year" After a bit of back and forth chit-chat and the roll of my eyes, we left the office with no registration.
Now, I haven't mentioned that my winshield has a nice, large crack in it (on the passenger side), and that there is NO way it will pass inspection without a new windshield. We've been planning to get one in early spring when we get our tax returns. Now, we have to come up with the $$$ now, so I can get my car inspected and get it registered. What a pain in the rear! My windshield has been cracked for about 3 months. We've been so *grateful* that we wouldn't have to replace it until spring, due to the new *rule* about only inspecting every other year. Oh well....I guess it's best to get it done and overwith. I'm still irritated though.
We got DH's car inspected, and will pick up his new registration stickers on Friday morning. I can't get a new windshield put in until next Tuesday.
Just wanted to get that off my chest! LOL

I know exactly what you mean. Seem to always fall into the fine print trap myself.

((((Robin))) Ok, to me what year does it matter when you get it inspected every two years, you should be able to get it inspected within those two years ugggghhhh!!

We have a new rule, don't mean to gross anyone out and it might also be long.

In our township we have designated years to get our septics pumped. The person pumping turns all information into the township they can also inform township if someone is having septic problem. Whole purpose of rule. We have lived in our house almost 18 years. It seems like the house next door always had septic problems. When the house was sold almost 8 years ago it had septic problems that ran into part of our yard. The previous owner fixed it up enough to be sold. It worked for a short period and starting running through our yard again. We told the woman (we felt very bad), we told the township and the person who pumped the septic told the township. They never did a thing and it makes me soooo angry!!!!! It took us over 4 years and we finally contacted the state and a person came down from Harrisburg and a year later it was fixed.

It was a touchy situation because the woman's husband died in a car accident and I know she has no income and the septic would have cost a good $8,000+ to put in:(

Don't worry we still get along I just feel bad with her buying the house "as is":(

Well Marg, I must say that your situation sounds a bit worse than mine LOL

And I'm with you....what does it matter which year we inspect, as long as it's every other year. Sheesh!
