Advent Calendar

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive December 2007: Advent Calendar
By Luvn29 on Saturday, December 1, 2007 - 08:02 pm:

Usually we make it to the mall to buy one of those chocolate advent calendars for each kid, but we didn't get to this year. So I decided to make them one. I used paper towel and toilet paper tubes, tissue paper, and tape. And, of course, the goodies to go inside each piece of the wreath. The piece at the bottom that looks like a piece of candy has a better prize and is to be opened on the 24th. I wrote the numbers on them randomly so they still have to hunt for the correct one to open each day.

I can't wait to see it. I have never had one, but have always wanted one.

What a cute idea! Mine are finally old enough and I bought them their first ones this year. I told them at bedtime tonight that tomorrow we would start a very special family tradition and explained a bit about advent.
I thought - gee , I wonder how many people still carry on this tradition - glad to see that it's alive and well!
Happy Advent!

I e-mailed it to you! Thanks Dawn!

Oh, how cute! So, they just rip the paper, to get the goodie? What a cool idea. At our house, we'd have to keep them up high somewhere, or the dog would be ripping the paper open herself!

Thanks Dawn! It was kind of a quick job that I did today. I started to do it in the shape of a Christmas tree, but decided I liked the wreath.

As you can see, the first one was opened already before I took the picture!

Ame, I think it is wonderful that you are beginning that tradition, also. My little boy looks so forward to it!

Cute Advent calendar!

We have an elf that "hides" in the house. The kids find him each day and they receive a small treat.

It's so pretty!! Kudos to you for doing it!

Very creative. :)

We have a beautiful, felt advent calendar that I bought years ago. Each day one of the kids moves a star to the next day's slot. No goodies.

We've always done an Advent Calendar but ours is like Marcia's. I remember the chocolate ones from when I was very small but we had a quilted one when I was growing up. I LOVE your idea, Adena!!!

My kids are using the Advent Calendar I had when I was a kid. It is fabric and has Santa and Mrs Clause on it and a little mouse you move through the days to the 24th, it has little numbered pockets the mouse is put into.

My lil' sis has one she bought for her first Christmas on her own and her kids use it every year too...

So the Advent Calendar tradition is alive and well in our homes... :)

I only have one for both kids to share. I made it out of fabric and it has little pockets. I usually just out in two chocolate candies each night.

I love that and wish that I'd thought of it.

We have an Advent calendar. It's quilted and felt and has pockets with pieces of the nativity scene. Each day there is a piece to add to the manger and a little treat, too. DD loves it.

Baby Jesus is in the last pocket.

Better to make` your own, I learned today. My son hates the little chocolate pieces! My daughter likes them, though, so she will probably be eating double!

It's Wilton favor tins on velcro. If anyone is interested, the instructions are here:

Mine in-laws bought us one last year though, so I have to use that one. It's very cute though - a large snowman with little drawers. We put a tiny teddy bear in ech drawer each day. He's wearing a Santa outfit. Natalie really loves it this year. No treats.

I love your calendar. And so easy!

I think it's cool and right up my ally as far as crafting goes.

Adena, I love your idea. Yours is really cute and I would never have thought of it!
