A strange bra question?

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive September 2007: A strange bra question?
By Anonymous on Tuesday, September 25, 2007 - 11:56 am:

My husband and myself have talked about this on and off for years. He thinks I am strange. Maybe I am strange, but it is a comfort thing.

After my first was born, I started sleeping with a bra on. I mean heavy nursing boobs are just, well, uncomfortable. Even when I was done nursing, I always slept with a bra on. Now, you may think that is strange. I have very large breasts. Honestly, I do not like the way my breasts feel when they are just "hanging around". I am really not trying to be funny. It just does not feel good to me, or comfortable to me, to let them just hang like that.

My husband thinks it is so strange that I do that, he tells me it is not "normal".
I shower each and everyday, I wash my hair each and everyday. I do, however, sleep with a bra on. Strange as it sounds, it is what is comfortable to me. I do not shower the minute I wake up. I come down to the kitchen, get my coffee, read the newspapaer. I also start doing a few chores in the morning. I just could not stand the feeling of not having a bra on while doing chores. My breasts are heavy, and I feel they need to be supported.

So is this really so odd? My husband thinks it is so odd, and will bring it up from time to time.
I am just doing what is comfortable to me.

By Anonymous on Tuesday, September 25, 2007 - 12:05 pm:

I think it is odd that people without boobs (MEN)have an opinion on what's odd and not odd when it comes to boobs... HA

Having said that... no I do not think it's odd. And, frankly, if it bothers you bad enough, I would look into have a lift or reduction... I know many people who have had that procedure done because they were uncomfortable (back pain, etc) from really large breast. I was on the opposite end of the spectrum. I had no breasts to speak of. Just 2 pcs. of skin hanging after my second child. lol It bothered me to the point of not wanting to take my shirt off. I had breast implants and have never regretted it.

You are fine!! Ignore your dh. :)

By Yjja123 on Tuesday, September 25, 2007 - 12:06 pm:

I wore one to bed for years...then I had a breast reduction. I no longer wear one to bed.
I do not think it is weird. It helps gravity from taking over.
My daughter (who is quite endowed) wears one of those camisoles with a bra inside to bed every night. Maybe you could get those (they look more like PJ's).

By Imamommyx4 on Tuesday, September 25, 2007 - 01:40 pm:

I don't think it's weird. I have friends with the same prob and they do the same thing. I, though, am not that well endowed and never have worn one at bedtime. And it is uncomfortable for me to have one on when I lay down. To each her own.

By Enchens on Tuesday, September 25, 2007 - 02:03 pm:

Nope, it's not weird. I'm just an average size, and I myself don't like the feeling or the idea of them not being "contained.

By Crystal915 on Tuesday, September 25, 2007 - 02:07 pm:

I sleep with a bra on, have since I was a teen. I am "average" size, I just dislike the feeling of not wearing anything. I will wear a shelf bra tank top if I am not wearing a bra, but frequently wear my bra WITH the shelf bra tank.

By Dawnk777 on Tuesday, September 25, 2007 - 02:15 pm:

I wore a bra to bed, when I was nursing, but I haven't since then. I say do what makes you feel comfortable.

By Trina~moderator on Tuesday, September 25, 2007 - 02:28 pm:

I don't think it's weird at all, just a matter of personal preference. Perhaps your DH is just unhappy about not having easy access. LOL!

By Anonymous on Tuesday, September 25, 2007 - 03:18 pm:

Well, I see I am not that abnormal LOL...Although my boobs are big(38DD),they do not cause me any back discomfort. It is the hanging down pulling sensation that I do not like.See,and my husband thinks it is just me who is so odd with this behavior.

Trina...he has mentioned not having easy access LOL

By Tink on Tuesday, September 25, 2007 - 04:19 pm:

I'm the same size as you, Anon and I do occasionally sleep in a bra but it's only the two days before AF comes since they are tender during those days. I can understand exactly where you are coming from, I just don't find bras comfortable enough to sleep in on a regular basis. My dh finds it really weird that I've slept in my workout clothes quite often so that I'll get up, put on a bra and shoes, and actually go running in the morning.

By Cat on Tuesday, September 25, 2007 - 04:21 pm:

Don't they sell "sleep bras"? I thought I'd seen those in a catalog or something. I don't think you're weird at all. To each his (or her!) own! :)

By Anonymous on Tuesday, September 25, 2007 - 04:31 pm:

I totally hear ya sister. It's so uncomfortable, especially after kids when they are so "floppy". (Who wants their boobs in their armpits??) I'm large on top as well and those camisole tops sound good to me, but I don't know if I would like how "tight" the rest of the shirt would be.
I really really really need a reduction but I think I'll wait until we've completed our family.

By Ginny~moderator on Tuesday, September 25, 2007 - 06:05 pm:

My dear mother was a 38D and, as she aged, her breasts sagged. She always wore a bra, 24/7, except in the shower, doctor's office, etc. In fact, she wore boned bras. Finally, when she was hospitalized for 6 weeks with a bone infection, I introduced her to sports bras, and she loved them but only wore them in bed and around the house. When she was going out, she wore the boned bras. You're right, whichever Anon you are - the hanging down/pulling sensation made Mom very uncomfortable, and I fully understand why. For all the good things I inherited from my mom, I'm glad that my bosom wasn't one of them.

By Cocoabutter on Tuesday, September 25, 2007 - 06:05 pm:

Well, I don't feel comfortable with my bra on most of the time, so I definitely don't sleep in one. BUT, mine are not as big as yours (38B.) SO, if it's comfortable for YOU, then I see no problem with it.

BUT, you also might think of hubby's "needs." Men like boobs. My hubby likes to put his arms around me in bed and give my boobs a squeeze goodnight. :)

By Anonymous on Tuesday, September 25, 2007 - 06:29 pm:

I am the original anon..No, I am not thinking of hubbys needs. I have my own needs to feel comfortable with myself. I know it may sound selfish to most.
I just find it interesting that I am not the only female who wears a bra to bed. I can now put this discussion/arguement to rest with my spouse LOL

By Juli4 on Tuesday, September 25, 2007 - 07:24 pm:

Oh how I wish I had smaller boobs. I don't sleep in one, but don't like the feeling of walking around without one. They are quite saggy from nursing 4 kids. I am only 24. I think I may have a lift someday. I would like to. My dh thinks it would be good (but totally does not complain with them now). I don't know though. I think most people I know would think it is vain or a waste of money. I am 24 though and would like to live a while with perky boobs that stay in the breast area in camisoles and such. I am a 36dd BTW

By Pamt on Tuesday, September 25, 2007 - 08:34 pm:

I don't like wearing a bra to sleep, unless it's a cami with a shelf bra and it's a couple of days before my period. At the PMS time my boobs are excruciating and the "drop" that occurs when the bra comes off is downright painful. Otherwise though, I want the girls to breathe (and yeah the easy access thing *blushing*). However, I don't like going braless during the day and putting a bra on is one of the first things I do in the morning. When I lived in the south...there is nothing worse than boon sweat and otherwise I just feel better when they are contained. (34D, btw).

By Reds9298 on Tuesday, September 25, 2007 - 08:36 pm:

No it's not weird at all! It's just a comfort thing for you, like some people sleep naked and I personally couldn't stand that.

I have itty-bitties, so I don't know the feeling. :( It's not weird!

By Trina~moderator on Tuesday, September 25, 2007 - 08:55 pm:

Hey Pam, we're bra size buddies! LOL!

By Pamt on Tuesday, September 25, 2007 - 09:21 pm:

LOL Trina!!

Oh, and I meant "boob sweat" not boon sweat. Don't even want to think about what that means.

By Bobbie~moderatr on Tuesday, September 25, 2007 - 09:41 pm:

LOL at boon sweat.. I was thinking, what the heck?

I am a 36 DD. My Fibro makes me uncomfortable in constricting clothing and a bra while laying down is constricting to me. So, no bra sleeping for me. However, I know many people that sleep in their bra's, heck I know many people that sleep in or out of things that I wouldn't or couldn't do. I don't do night gowns or PJ's with no stretch, either and there is no way I would sleep naked in a house with four children and a mother in law.. But that is just me... :)

Do what you want and tell your DH that when he straps on a pair for a few weeks he can tell you what to do with your boobs and when you should do it. Until then, guess it is all up to you...

By Crystal915 on Tuesday, September 25, 2007 - 10:26 pm:

"Hubby's needs"?!?! What a laugh!! That's like giving up sleeping on your belly (which I HAVE to do, and can't even give up at my chiro's urging) so your hubby can cop a feel as he chooses. Of course, there is always the butt grab if he feels his needs are unfulfilled. 0_o

By Cocoabutter on Wednesday, September 26, 2007 - 01:17 am:

Well, laugh all you want, but the more he touches me, the more assured I feel that he still loves me and finds me sexy.

When a woman stops letting her man feel her body close to him, (and I am not say that that is what anon is doing) she will eventually lose him.

Besides, it was just a suggestion.

By Anonymous on Wednesday, September 26, 2007 - 07:38 am:

Original anon here...so because I wear a bra to bed, you just assume I do not let my husband touch me at all?? What a strange assumption.
I do have 3 children, so I "think" he has touched me at least 3 times LOL..

We hug and kiss on a daily basis. So I do feel we connect emotionally/physically each day. I do not feel because I wear a bra to bed, and he does not touch my breasts each night because of it, is going to make him leave me.

By Kym on Wednesday, September 26, 2007 - 09:09 am:

I hear ya Anon, I am a 36D, but a 36D who has nursed four kids. Although my hubby likes the no bra look and feel and I like to sleep in the buff, we have compromised:0

The best camisole ever!! Very comfortable to sleep in and keeps gravity from running amock.

By Karen~admin on Wednesday, September 26, 2007 - 10:15 am:

Ditto Deanna, on the itty bitties............the only time I could relate to having *real* boobs, was when I was pregnant/nursing, and I had a nice, full 34DD. But, sadly those days are LONG gone. I'm a barely B now, and personally CANNOT sleep in clothes/nighties, period. But in the past, before hysterectomy, at certain times of my cycle, I HAD to wear a bra 24/7, because it hurt NOT to.

You're not weird, and it's YOUR body, so you have every right to do what is comfortable for YOU.

By Jjb on Wednesday, September 26, 2007 - 01:49 pm:

I don't think it's strange at all! I wore one while breast feeding 24/7 with all three kids. It was more comfortable. My boobs have shrunk to be itty bitty things so now I don't wear one to bed, but all other times I have one on. My MIL hardly ever wears one and I think that's more strange than sleeping in one.

By Unschoolmom on Wednesday, September 26, 2007 - 03:06 pm:

//I am the original anon..No, I am not thinking of hubbys needs. I have my own needs to feel comfortable with myself. I know it may sound selfish to most.//

You could compromise and invest in a nursing bra. Bra for you, easy access for him! :D

By Christylee on Thursday, September 27, 2007 - 09:06 pm:

I'm a 36A and mine comes off the second I walk in the door! lol... I did recently discover sports bras and they are a little better but I really hate them all. Weight isn't an issue for me so I'm without them as much as possible, I couldn't imagine wearing them to sleep in!
