Water damage help for cell phones

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive September 2007: Water damage help for cell phones

Here's a helpful hint:

If your cell phone gets water damage from falling into a glass of water, like mine did a few days ago, I have a neat trick to help dry it out. Open up the back, take the battery out. Put the opened phone (not the battery) on top of kitty litter in a closed tupperware container for two solid days. Voila, no more water damage and the phone will work! :)

Good tip, Annie. :) I have a friend who dropped her cell in the toilet (of all places!) and it's toast. She tried drying it out for a week. Robin has put his through the was three times. The first time I caught it between the washer and the dryer. It took a little over a week to dry out and it still worked. The second time it went through the washer AND the dryer and it dried out and worked in just two days! The third time I did catch it, but went ahead and put it in the dryer anyway. It will turn on now and you can get info off it or look at the pictures Robin's taken, but the internal antenna is toast so he doesn't get a signal. He's not getting a new one until our plans run out and we get a new one (January). Maybe he'll remember to check his pockets. Probably not! lol

Well, my phone really didn't survive a trip through the washing machine. We had to go back to the older phone.

I dropped my friend's portable phone into the lake, and almost had a heart attack! We took it apart, used the blow dryer on it, and then let it dry out til the next day. Amazingly enough...it worked!!
