I took my son with me today when I sent shopping for a new pair, he is eleven, oh mom!! Not those again!! They are plain and boring! Well, they are my favorite tennis shoes! I do buy different styles but they are always white leather. I have new balance walking shoes but for casual wear this is what I buy. I have out standby favorites and I guess they are what I stick by... Just thought I'd share!!

Yes, I get this all of the time when shopping with my kids. You know what, I actually let them pick out things for me. They do a great job. They keep me in mind but do pick out things that I would not normally pick out for myself and the items look nice on me.

I used to be able to pick out clothes for my kids. Now when I hold up something that I think is cute for them, they turn up their nose and say that is not cute at all. :)

I used to wear keds tennis, but honestly they are pretty uncool, so I quit. I think I started reading stuff about you know your in the 90's when..LOL.

another great rule of thumb I will always remember, if you were old enough to wear the style once, you are too old to wear it when it comes back in fashion..LOL

Kaye, how can you say that?! LOL! I was thrilled when boot cut and flare jeans came back into style. I'm also loving the fact that flip flops are the craze again. That's what I wore as a teen. :)

I don't think I've ever had Keds. Not that I can remember, anyway. I don't wear sneakers often nowadays, but if/when I do, I have Reeboks and a pair of Nikes.

I used to wear Keds, several years ago. Now they're not cool. LOL Nikes for tennis shoes and flip flops in the summer.

If you try to be cool you get it for that too, you know the round toe canvas slip on sneaker/shoes that come in prints, you see everywhere lately, I tried on a pair last night with dd who is 9 and she said very disgustedly "Mom those are for kids!" You can't win.

Well, whether or not they are "cool" they are popular here for young AND old. I see a ton of people wearing them and....yes I am one. I have several pair. None of them are plain though.

LOL! You've just brought a childhood memory to the surface for me! Keds were the ONLY tennis my mom wore when we were kids. Of course, back THEN, there weren't the options there are now! But every spring I can remember going shopping for new tennies - specifically Keds - and I hated it, because they seemed so *uncool*.

Fast forward many years: When Jen was dancing, she was also in the parade performance group, and the age group she was in had a requirement of the typical Keds-type white tennies as part of the uniform. Obviously most of the kids went to KMart or WalMart to get their white tennies since they were cheaper. But we sought out shoe stores that carried Keds, since they sold narrow kids' sizes, and that's what Jen needed.

My opinion is wear what YOU are comfortable with, and don't worry about what the latest fashion in shoes is, or if you're being cool or not. On the other hand, it's important for kids to wear cool shoes, so if I were you, I wouldn't force my kids to wear Keds if they didn't want them.

I let my kids pick out my clothing too. I love taking them with me because they are brutally honest. I can try on a dress for hubby and he will say "that is great honey". My kids will say "no mom not that one it makes your butt look big". I love shopping with them because they seem to pick out better clothes for me than I do.
I weasr sneakers a lot. I have very small feet so my selection in shoes is limited. I wear Keds, Reeboks and sandals most of the time.
I never push my fashion on my kids. As long as it is reasonable (no sexy clothing!) I let them select their own. My one rule is we do not buy cheap shoes, because I think it is a waste of money (they do not last) and I prefer leather (particularly for my son).
