Anyone else with a DH who likes to cook?

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive September 2007: Anyone else with a DH who likes to cook?
By Nicki on Sunday, September 2, 2007 - 09:04 pm:

Someone on another post mentioned that her DH cooks, and I was so happy to hear I may not be the only one. My DH likes to cook when he has time. He is one to pour over cook books and gets excited to try something new. He will often whip something up on the weekends. During the week, meals are pretty basic when I put things together. I cringe at any recipe with more than four or five ingredients. I do not like to cook. So he and I have a deal, he cooks when he wants something exciting and different, and I do the yard work.:-)
So just wondering if there are any others who do not like to cook? If so, does your dh help you out?

My DH loooooves to cook. I go in spurts. I like to follow recipes. He likes to be spontaneous and throw things together. He's known as a better cook than me. Not that i'm a bad cook, he just has an imagination that has left for some good meals. I used to feel put off by his cooking and felt inadequate myself but i've just learned to appreciate the fact that I can still have a good meal when I don't want to cook.

Gosh, I wish!

Both of us HATE to cook! We did well for a while, but this year, we really dropped the ball. We have wasted more meat that we defrosted and then *didn't feel like* cooking. Waste of money AND bad for our health, since we eat takeout, or just munch. And, we (*I*) was never a takeout/fast food person. I have always hated cooking. DH was really into grilling for a long time, but he's been working 6/7 days a week, and just doesn't want to deal with it.

But - when he IS in the mood, he grills our entire meal on the grill. I just do the prep work, and that suits me just fine!

My dh loves to cook, but lately he has been working too much to do much cooking.I usually won't go through the trouble of actually cooking something gluten free just for me but he does. :)When he had a more traditional work schedule he made dinner 3 or 4 times a week.

My DH enjoys cooking. He does 90% of the cooking during the week. In fact, he's in the kitchen right now making up a dip for a bbq we're going to this afternoon. His office is at home, so he's able to start dinner before I get home from my day. I generally travel a lot so when I get home he knows that I'm too tired so he jumps in & does it for me. I assist where I need to. He's been a huge influence on cooking with the kids, too. My DD and him cook together a lot. I love to cook & I do a lot on the weekends when we're home. I crank out the cookbooks & cook from them while he puts stuff together...he's more of an experimental chef, but I love his efforts & would eat whatever he placed in front of me. He's something else! :)

My dh loves to cook too. He likes to experiment, although most of the time that meal doesn't come out well and we end up having grilled cheese LOL

He usually does the cooking on the weekends because he likes to fuss around with stuff. I'm like Nicki, if it has more that 4 or 5 ingredients, i don't cook it unless i'm REALLY in the mood for "real" food.
Dh likes to make good breakfasts on the weekends, hash browns, bacon, eggs, toast, etc. YUM!
this morning we had blueberry pancakes, made my dh.

My dh does just about all of the cooking for him and I. He loves to cook and he says it helps him unwind after his commute. Typically, I cook dinner for the kids and then he makes our dinner when he gets home.

Me and thank goodness because i hate it lol = )

My dh doesn't enjoy *everyday* cooking, but he loves doing specialty meals for adults. He'll plan everything from appetizers to wine. Sometimes he and his brother will get together and plan an incredible meal for all of us.

Where on Earth did you all find your husbands???
Is there a husband cooking camp I can send mine to? lol

By Amecmom on Monday, September 3, 2007 - 07:53 pm:

My husband will cook when I ask. He'll grill outside or do burgers inside. He is a very good cook. When we were dating, he made the best tomato sauce with meatballs, hot sausage and pork ribs. I'm lucky because he lived on his own for a while so he is not helpless when it comes to so many things.
My dad is a great cook as is my cousin.
It must have something to do with being Italian :).

Lol, Nancy, my DH would like to send me to a cooking camp! I don't think it would help much, though because my heart wouldn't be in it. It's hard for DH and MIL to understand me. My MIL owned a restaurant for years and loves to cook and entertain. I'm so the opposite. She must have passed on her love of cooking to both of her sons. My mom on the other hand is like me. Both my mom and I have food issues, so I don't think we see cooking as something enjoyable.

Karen, it sounds like you and your husband have worked things out well. I would love to eat salads all the time! That's part of the problem. I prefer simple, small, low-fat meals and prefer to "graze" throughout the day. DH on the other hand likes three solid meals, meat and potatoes and loves sauces and gravy. So it's tricky sometimes.

I'm glad to see there are others here who don't like to cook. My DH tries to tell me I'm an odd ball, but good to know I'm in good company here!

My partner loves to cook and so do I but really by the time we're home from work we want something quick and easy yet healthy. We generally cook meals together and share all parts right down to flipping burgers on the bbq. :) However, I'm the one who loves to bake so I do the majority of that.

My DH does NOT cook at all! LOL I do all the cooking, but I also love to cook. I pour over cookbooks and get excited about food, but then again, I love to eat!

By Kateg on Monday, September 3, 2007 - 10:04 pm:

LOL ~ Nancy, I found mine on Yahoo! :)

My DH doesn't mind cooking and loves to grill and smoke things. I like to cook for the most part so it is a pretty good partnership in the kitchen.

In the past, DH used to cook more! I think he's just too busy with work and other stuff, and just doesn't have time! Once, when I had to work Thanksgiving, I came hom to a roasted turkey breast, mashed potatoes and a vegetable! That was so nice. He also used to whip things up, when I was suffering from pregnancy nausea, with Sarah. He does the grilling, and will cook stuff on the Foreman grill and prefers to warm up German potato salad on the stove. That's about the extent of it, now.

My DH likes to cook, but he makes such a huge mess that I tend to discourage it, lol.

By Nicki on Tuesday, September 4, 2007 - 12:08 pm:

Dawn that was so sweet of your DH to make Thanksgiving dinner! Dan likes to cook a whole meal himself, too. I really am lucky. He also loves to bake, and I do too, on occasion. One year he made homemade truffles to give as Christmas gifts . Oh my, they were so good!

By Dawnk777 on Wednesday, September 5, 2007 - 12:28 am:

Yum, Nicki! Yes, it was very nice, when I came home to the Thanksgiving dinner!
