What is a crop party?

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive August 2007: What is a crop party?

Okay, I've been a scrapper for 3 years and a stamper for years before that and I'm embarrassed to say I've never been to and do not quite understand what a crop party is????

I have a half of a room all to my scrapbooking self, I scrap constantly, it's my big hobby, and I DON'T GET THE CROP PARTY THING!!:)

Clarify for me/correct me if I'm wrong....so it's when people get together to....what?? Just do pages in the company of others?

I would love a great description from anyone who goes to these kinds of events. :) Thank you!

My mom is an avid scrapper and she loves to "Crop 'til she Drops"! I'm not a scrapper at all but my understanding that they do just put pages together for hours, get to try out supplies or brands of products that they don't have, and just hang out together. One of the hostesses that she likes has incredible appetizers and they often have a chick flick playing in the background. I'm surprised you haven't attended one yet. My mom could probably go to one each weekend, if she had the free time. They are sooo popular around here!

Yep, what Tink said. They also usually give out cool scrapping door prizes every hour or so, you can borrow and try out cool new items to see if you like them before you put out the money, plus it's a lot of fun to meet new people and talk while you're scrapping.

Okay, that's kind-of what I thought, but wasn't for sure! Thank you! I would get ZERO scrapping done at one of these things, not to mention they are usually from 6-midnight and I woudl be asleep. LOL I like the idea of it, but to actually accomplish something, I think I would get very little done between the socializing and trying new things. Some people I know say they like it because it's quiet time away from their families for scrapbooking, but I have that in the evenings so that doesn't fit me. I understand it, but don't really "need" it.

Thank you - I'm a goof!!

It is a lot of fun Deanna. But you are right, it is hard to get pages done when all you want to do is eat, and chat which is what I do.

But if you are focused and want to get some pages done, it is fun.

My SIL and I go to crops and she doesn't even get her stuff OUT, because she is socailizing the whole time. LOL
I do get a few pages done, but not many.

My next scrap book weekend is in the end of Feb. A bunch of us from cleveland, and cincinnati get together at a hotel, rent out a conference room and crop till we drop. All our food is included which is nice and they bring the food to the conference room. We scrapbook all day long and get tons done...espeically if you have your power layouts (creative memories) all set. We can leave our stuff out all weekend and just leave the room and lock it up. Next morning you go back and all the stuff is where you left it.
Last year i think I got about 30 pages done! It's so nice to get away from home, work, husbands and kids and just have a girls weekend away. It doens't cost too much because there are about 10 of us pitching in.

I just went to a crop yesterday morning. I went from 10-2 (while the kids were in school). I actually have a mostly dedicated scrapbook room. For me though, I is nice to sit with others, get ideas, and socialize. At an evening crop 6-midnight. I get between 12-20 pages done depending on my mood. Yesterday I got 8 done. Why I like to go is, free stuff, sale stuff, but mostly when I am working on a page and i need this sticker, or this color paper, it is right there to buy, no problem, I don't get stuck. I don't run out of anything. When I work at my house I tend to be very distracted and then stop for supplies etc.

But I pay 5 dollars, and get lunch when I go to the day crops, I really love going.

Bellajoe- The hotel weekend you mentioned is pretty common around here, but it's way too expensive for my taste! (Here at least) I really love working at my house. I've been to several stamping parties (for cardmaking) and I never really enjoyed them. I've had some family get togethers for card making (no one else in the family scrapbooks except my SIL who is in CA) and those were fun.

The crops that have been advertised to me lately are for 6-midnight and cost around $25. I know I will spend more once I get there, on things I could make great pages without if I were at home. I'll just buy because it's there, you know? So I figure I'll be spending probably $40 to essentially socialize and get nothing done.LOL If I were going to a crop party that was strictly friends, it might be different. That may sound terrible, but really true. I may have to try one sometime, with a friend though.
