Trees and other things in my life...

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive August 2007: Trees and other things in my life...
By Marg on Wednesday, August 29, 2007 - 02:15 pm:

Our huge maple tree needs cut down.

This tree first attracted me to our house.

It is over 100 years old has a huge base with literally 5 trees growing up from this base.

It is beautiful in the fall, however, the latest storm took 1 tree down and it really all needs to go.

The problem, after I finally decide to have it come down dh and the girls are all giving me the look as if I'm killing a family member off:(

Oh well.

Not much going on otherwise.

I got the night job. Love the residents, coworkers have a lot to be desired and the owners. Ok, I'm an accountant,9 staff members to 4 administrators all taking salaries. They work in the office from 10-2 each day. Never take the residents on outings unless it's to the doctors. They will not cover for any of us if we are sick, etc. They literally will not work the floor. They pay us minimum wage which means I make as much as the others who work there because they got a boost when the state wages went up in the spring. It does depress me how employers treat employees.

I would like to earn enough to get the van fixed, carpet in the living room and a new couch. But I don't know how much longer I can mentally handle it. I work Sat, Sun, Mon and Wed nights. This means I will work on the following holidays, Labor Day, The night before Thanksgiving, the night of Christmas eve and Christmas night and the night of New Year's. If I want to switch I have to get someone to cover for me they will not do it for me. It's as if they expect the business to run itself and they all take salaries. Sorry I know the accounting end and administrative salaries is top heavy to the other salaries. For their business they really only need 1 admin maybe 1 1/2 at the most. Only 40 residents at the most and none are bedridden.

Dh wants me to start a payroll and accounting business. I want to but am afraid. But I think I will do it. I thought when I interviewed these were nice people, but once again, it's the real world.

If you call a professional tree-trimmer, they can decide if the whole tree (or trees) need to go or if they can cut away the damaged part of it and the rest of it can survive with some TLC.

Best of luck!
