Question.....

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive August 2007: Question.....
By Mom2three1968 on Tuesday, August 28, 2007 - 08:23 pm:

Awhile back someone on here was purchasing one of those new front loader washing machines. We are going to get the Kenmore He2 I believe it is. What I would like to know is do you have to use special detergent for it such as one specifically marked for He washers? Or can I use the detergent that I've always used? I use Gain. Does anyone know?

You have to use HE detergent. If you don't, it can cause problems with the machine (too manysuds will shut some down)

I have the Kenmore Elite HE3 front loader washer. Yes, you need to use the special HE detergent. If my memory serves me correctly, the owners manual said it's OK to use regular detergent (about half the amount) in a pinch, but not on a regular basis. I read an article that likened it to the same reasons why we don't use regular dish detergent in a dishwasher.

Can I Use Regular Detergent in a High Efficiency Washer?

By Kateg on Tuesday, August 28, 2007 - 09:23 pm:

Yes, you need to use the HE detergent. I've had my new washer & dryer set for a couple of weeks now & I love them!!!! We use so much less detergent now. It's great. Enjoy!

I use Gain HE and it does very well.

Thanks all, I thought I couldn't use my old detergent but wanted to check to make sure!!! I'll let you all know how I like our new machines!

You'll love them!! I've had my new machines for most of the summer, and I LOVE THEM!!! I used to have to do a few loads of laundry a day to stay on top of it, and now I just do it a couple of days a week. WOOHOO!!!

Sorry ... I have the HE3T and I have used only All Free and Clear in it from day one (have had them about 4 years now). Have never had a problem. I use only a small amount. Good luck and enjoy them!

Amy, you can now get HE detergent that is perfume and dye free. That's what we use.

Thanks, Trina, but I have no problems with what I already use. I started using it when you couldn't get HE that was perfume and dye free. Now, they have it concentrated into these really tiny bottles. I love it! No more taking up my entire laundry shelf for just a bottle of detergent.
