Bad weather

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive August 2007: Bad weather
By Kaye on Thursday, August 16, 2007 - 11:34 pm:

ugh..today has been a horrible weather day. Really we are used to storms here, but with just one outer band of a tropical storm and the whole city was flooded out. We have had so much rain this summer. My nearest grocery store had the ceiling collapse and killed one person, just from the weight of the water. there were something like 77 rescues, i was out when the storm hit and had to evacuate the kids on foot because I couldn't get to my house. They were scared. Crazy day. Worst part is, we have a decent chance of a big hurricane next week. UGH!

I hear you Kaye, my neice and nephew were stuck at daycare and it was flooding. My sister was stuck at work, her husband was stuck on the side of 225 and my mom was accross town trying to get to them. She sat in line for almost two hours trying to get over the toll bridge. I tried every way I could think of to get out of my area to get to them but couldn't get out so ended up having to go back home. Finally my mom was able to get to them. Thankfully.

My friend in Deer Park had EIGHT inches of water in house, our streets were flooded here in LaPorte (even 146 had standing water on it) and I read about your Randalls. How scarey and sad.

What hurricane is heading our way? Is it Dean? I haven't looked in a while.

Stay safe. We need to exchange phone numbers off board to check on each other if this is going to keep happening.

Be careful!!!!

Yes, it is Dean. Obviously too soon to call, but most likely Texas is going to get this one.

By Dawnk777 on Friday, August 17, 2007 - 08:41 am:

Yikes, that does sound like messy weather and Dean isn't a welcome sight, either!

By Kaye on Friday, August 17, 2007 - 09:44 am:

Dean is the new fear, it could go either way.

the other big kicker is all those plants in deer park did not fare well, so they were making hurricane decisions on monday and now that most are down they are trying to decide what to do! Personly I would expect a gas price increase in a few days...LOL

By Christylee on Friday, August 17, 2007 - 12:29 pm:

I guess I'll go fill up today then! lol....

By Pamt on Friday, August 17, 2007 - 12:36 pm:

I am so glad to be leaving Louisiana for this reason. However, Erin and Dean have totally screwed up closing on our house here. The buyers waited on yesterday to secure homeowners insurance and they have to have that to close. We have no idea why they waited so long. Anyway, no one will write a policy with a storm in the gulf. We're hoping for a gap between the two today so they can get insurance and we can close on Monday. We were supposed to close today :(. Stupid weather!

Kaye and Christy, stay safe. I hope Dean fizzles away. Kepp us posted :)

By Christylee on Friday, August 17, 2007 - 11:08 pm:

Kaye, they ended up having two people die because of the roof collapse did you hear that? We also had a guy in an 18 wheeler drown right down the street from my house. He drove into a retention pond not knowing that's what it was and his whole truck went in. They said we had 7 deaths yesterday because of the weather. I really hope Dean fizzles although I just read he strengthened to a four.

By Kaye on Saturday, August 18, 2007 - 12:48 am:

Yeah christy, I knew the one guy. He was only 26. Very sad. It does look like dean may go more south, we can hope. Not that I wish a storm on anyone, but we just can't take much more water!

Pam, hope the house gets closed, I didn't even tihnk about that. but it does make sense. UGH.

By Karen~admin on Saturday, August 18, 2007 - 08:20 am:

Unfortunately, as all of us in hurricane prone areas know, this is still too far out to call. As Kaye said, no one wishes a Cat 4 storm on anyone but you certainly don't want it to hit where YOU live. It will be watched closely, and I hope it DOES track further south. Be safe, ladies!!!
