Can't take this HEAT!!

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive August 2007: Can't take this HEAT!!
By Karen~admin on Friday, August 10, 2007 - 08:30 am:

I am SO ready for *fall*! At 6:30 this morning, it was 86 degrees. Supposedly by 9 AM it will be at or near 100. We have broken heat records here this week, and this weekend is supposed to be worse! It is like stepping into a blast furnace when you go outside.

I understand. Even in Va beach we are having higher then normal temps. The water in our pool is HOT...its so unreal.Right now we are at around 80 at 8:30am. I love summer, its my favorite time of year, but this is a little "too" hot for me. I think we have gotten to around 99 here in Va Beach. It is hotter the further you go out though.

By Jelygu on Friday, August 10, 2007 - 08:57 am:

AMEN! We are miserable in Alabama. It is 8:00 and 81. We will be in the 100's, and the humidity makes it feel even worse. Yesterday it "felt like" 107!!!

By Cat on Friday, August 10, 2007 - 08:58 am:

I'm sorry you guys are having such heat. It's only in the 80's here this week, but man when we were in Vegas and it was 93 at 7 in the morning, WOW! Even Panama wasn't that hot! I feel for you. Hugs and stay cool!

By Reds9298 on Friday, August 10, 2007 - 09:22 am:

AMEN again! It's been so hot here for almost 10 days straight. The humidity here is TERRIBLE. Heat index is over 100 everyday, and 107 one day last week. It seems like we haven't played outside forever. You walk to the mailbox and break into a sweat. Our A/C hasn't been able to keep up the last three days and it's new! By afternoon, it's 3-4 degrees higher than the setting. I miss opening my blinds and curtains but I don't want to let the heat in. UGH.

By Karen~admin on Friday, August 10, 2007 - 09:27 am:

The heat index has been 110+ - on the news this morning, they predicted 110-120 this weekend! YIKES!

By Eve on Friday, August 10, 2007 - 09:54 am:

The heat has really beed bothering me this year too. It seems like our humidity has been bad this year. Today it's drizzly and cool for the time being and I'm so happy! I can't wait for Fall. Although, next week, we'll be off to the beach again, but atleast there is a breeze there! :)

By Dawnk777 on Friday, August 10, 2007 - 09:57 am:

In WI, the last few days have been cooler, but it hasn't been that comfortable because the humidity is still high. I can't wait for fall's lower humidity!

By Debbie on Friday, August 10, 2007 - 09:58 am:

Karen, we are right there with you. Though, I feel I can't complain since we've had a mild summer. This is the first week in the 100's.

Poor ds had football last night. He, and a few others, got sick from the heat. I had to sit him in the air conditioned car for awhile, and pump him full of water. The coaches are really good about having them drink water every 20 minutes, but it was still too much for him yesterday. It was 110 with the heat index.

By Tink on Friday, August 10, 2007 - 11:43 am:

Yikes! I can't believe the heat you are all dealing with. We are used to have days in the high 90's or low 100's at this time of year but it cools off every night. We've got a forecasted high of 96 today but it's only 70* at 8am. I hope things cool off for you soon!

By Pamt on Friday, August 10, 2007 - 03:10 pm:

Yep...that's why I'm looking forward to our move up north next weekend. Highs in the 70-80s and lows in the 50-60s. Aaaaahhhhh!

By Mom2three1968 on Friday, August 10, 2007 - 03:13 pm:

The heat has been terrible, 101 and 102!!! Today we have some relief it is "only" 91. Gosh i wish i had your temps Pam!!

By Jackie on Friday, August 10, 2007 - 03:21 pm:

Right now its 91 and very cloudy here in Va Beach. Even if you are outside for like 2 minutes, you sweat like a big LOL...oh my the humidty is high.

By Pamt on Friday, August 10, 2007 - 03:29 pm:

Oh Mom2three, those aren't my temps now. I only live an hour from Karen and I'm in the land of the 110 heat index. BUT, I'm moving to Wisconsin next week and those are the temps there. Can't wait!

By Crystal915 on Friday, August 10, 2007 - 05:51 pm:

The AC is broken in my building at work, and we're holding steady at 100F. Temps inside are around 85F, and people are getting faint. This is SO miserable, and we won't have functioning AC until the end of the month at least, and even then only in one quad.

By Dawnk777 on Friday, August 10, 2007 - 07:00 pm:

We are at 82 right now, with a dewpoint of 61. So, it's nice and sticky, even if it's not THAT hot.

By Bea on Friday, August 10, 2007 - 08:03 pm:

Hazy, Hot and Humid here too. That's normal around here, but these high 90s temperatures are a bit too hot for me. Like Jackie, our pool water is over 90. Thank God for AC.

Nice and sticky? Dawn, my disillusioned Yankee friend, try 98 with a dewpoint of 75. We'd think it was fall around here with a dewpoint of 61. :)

By Marcia on Friday, August 10, 2007 - 11:37 pm:

It's 11:30 pm, and although it's only around 70*, the humidity level is 85%. I'm in Ontario, but our heat and humidity are very high! It's been 100* every afternoon for the past couple of weeks. It sounds as if it's going to cool off a little bit in a few days. We need a big thunderstorm to break this humidity!

By Dawnk777 on Saturday, August 11, 2007 - 12:13 am:

Weather Underground says 71, with a dewpoint of 62. I'd like the dewpoint to be about 54 or lower. It was in the 70's earlier today (and foggy too!)
Sheboygan Weather Stats

My house thermometer says 68. It was a lot hotter, when the sun was out, but still not 98!

Stevens Point is 70, with a dewpoint of 63, right now.

I see that Baton Rouge was wickedly hot and humid today. I don't think I'm going to go to Louisiana anytime soon. That's way too sticky for me!

Baton Rouge weather stats

Karen, you even had a dewpoint in the 80's. I have to go back to 1995, to remember a summer that had a dewpoint in the 80's around here!

Pam.......

:-P

LOL

By Karen~admin on Saturday, August 11, 2007 - 08:35 am:

And Dawn, the temps at the Lakefront airport are actually cooler than other areas.........LOL

At Audubon Park yesterday, it was 100 degrees.

I've notice those sites don't really give the temps that are reported locally around here. Ditto other specifics. We use that site at work, and the rainfall amounts they indicate for a specific area don't jive with what is actually in our rain gauges on job sites. It's all directly related to the thermometer/gauge/whatever at its specific location.

Either way, it's miserable here right now.

By Dawnk777 on Saturday, August 11, 2007 - 08:58 am:

Yeah, I kind of got that! LOL! Even if the temps aren't quite right, it's still a high dewpoint that goes with the temp and that's the icky part.

By Karen~admin on Saturday, August 11, 2007 - 09:09 am:

OH - and *if* you were ever planning on visiting this area, I'd recommend doing it between late October and early April............at least you won't melt during that time. Gives you a perfect *excuse* to only come around Mardi Gras, or in the fall, when there are so many festivals.... LOL

By Pamt on Saturday, August 11, 2007 - 10:28 am:

I know darn it. Bad parent that I am, I have never taken my kids to the Audubon zoo. DH and I had been twice before we moved to LA. I thought about doing it this last week before we move, but it is too hot! We would be miserable and the animals would all just lay there. Oh well!

By Jackie on Saturday, August 11, 2007 - 10:33 am:

After our heatwave this week, we are only to get to 81 today.. What a difference. The humidity is still high. I went out walking with one of the dogs at 6:30am and the air was really thick.

By Karen~admin on Saturday, August 11, 2007 - 06:08 pm:

We actually went to the French Quarter today. UGH! We had to pick up my Michalopolous prints from the framer on Decatur St. (outskirts of the Quarter) where they were being reglassed with UV protective glass. Initially, we were going to go into the Quarter and have lunch, but simply walking from the parking lot 2 blocks away took everything out of me, and we picked up the prints and came home. It was in the high 90's, and felt it. Just walking 2 blocks there and 2 blocks back, I have sunburned legs!!!!

By Dawnk777 on Saturday, August 11, 2007 - 09:53 pm:

Oh ugh. Sarah and I got up and watched the sunrise this morning. The sun comes up about 5:50am and that's right when we got there. The temp was about 70, at the time. We took the dog with us, and when we were done taking pictures, we walked with her on the big sidewalk next to Lake Michigan. It was so nice. In the afternoon, it got up into the high 80's and with the sun, Jasmine would have been too hot, since she's got black fur. I'm glad we were able to walk her when it was cooler out.
