What Time Do Your Kids Catch the Bus?

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive August 2007: What Time Do Your Kids Catch the Bus?
By Kate on Thursday, August 2, 2007 - 09:41 am:

Just curious after reading about the poor Atlanta family that was killed. The report on CNN said the older sister used to escort the younger brother to the bus stop each morning at FIVE AM!!!!

So, what time do YOUR kids head to the bus stop in the AM?? For what grade is this? And when do they arrive home?

Five AM is absolutely absurd!! It's dark out there then, isn't it?? (I wouldn't actually KNOW since I'm, you know, ASLEEP at that hour...) How does anyone learn when getting up at what, four, four thirty in the morning?? Sheesh! And this child is EIGHT years old!

5 am?!?! Yikes, that's WAY too early!

I drive my kids to school in the morning and they take the bus home. They'll be in grades 4 &
6 this year. School starts at 8:00 and the bus comes at 7:15. I'm up anyway and have no problems driving them to school. We leave at 7:40. That way they can sleep a little later and eat a good breakfast before going to school. They get off the bus at 3:00.

The Junior and Senior high kids catch the bus between 6-6:30 am.

My dks go to school from 9am-3:30pm each day. They are picked up at 8:40am, and dropped off at 3:50pm.

Randy's bus will come at 7:33am and drop him back off at about 3:12pm (that's what the card says, anyway!). The AM bus is a middle school/high school combination bus. It drops the hs'ers off first and then goes on to the middle school. School is from 7:55-2:55. I think the hs starts at 7:40ish. Last year they changed the school times (too many snow days) so the same bus came at 7am. I think that's even too early. We live too close to the elementary school my kids went to for them to be bussed (we're 1 1/2 miles away).

I agree 5am is WAY too early.

My high schoolers get the bus at about 6:45am. School starts at 7:30.

By Kaye on Thursday, August 2, 2007 - 10:46 am:

the elem kids catch the bus at aboyt 7:20 (school is 8-3)

the int kids catch the bus at 8:15 (school is9-4)

the high school catches the bus at 6:00 (school is 7-2).

me daughter has already requested to moved districts before high school, she thinks 7 am is too early to start school!

When my kids took the bus, back in grade school, the bus came right to our house, at about 8am. THey usually got home, about 3:40pm, in the afternoon, and got dropped off right by our house. At 5am, we are all still sleeping!

Now, Sarah will be in college, and right on campus, so no bus. Emily will ride to school with me, and we leave around 7:30am. I pick Emily up and school gets out at 3:05 and the girls together usually got to the car, about 3:18. Maybe Emily by herself, will be quicker, though! They have to walk about a block, to get to the car.

That's very sad, for that family. I'll have to find the article.

Wow, we are lucky. It seems like a lot of your dks have to get on the bus way before school starts. My dks are the last ones on, and the school is just 5 minutes away, so they don't have to ride much. Now, they are the last ones off, but it still only takes 15-20 minutes. Our bus just goes to our subdivision, and the subdivision next to us.

Dawn, the bus stops at my neighbor's house. It is really nice.

It sure seems like schools start so early. I mean, 7A.M. seems early to me! I always thought 9A.M. is just about right. Of course, I am not a morning person. It just seems hard on these kids who have to catch a bus and get going so early. Maybe the kids prefer to start early so they get home earlier, the teachers too, for that matter.

Elementary school started for my kids at 8:30am.
Middle school 7:43am
High school 8:00am

By Debbie on Thursday, August 2, 2007 - 05:35 pm:

Here elementary starts at either 8:30 or 9:00. Middle school, and high school start at 8:00.

By Mommmie on Thursday, August 2, 2007 - 06:02 pm:

No bus service here.

Our public high schools let the kids choose if they want to attend class 8-3 or 9-4.

I can't hang with those early start times. That's crazy.

By Breann on Friday, August 3, 2007 - 12:44 am:

I drop my kids off at 10 till 8. We are right in town, so we don't get bus service. There are some kids that ride the bus that are on it for way over an hour.

By Dana on Friday, August 3, 2007 - 07:53 am:

DD's bus this year is 6:56a pickup time. And return 2:23. School hours are 7:45-1:45. I HATE these hours. I am so not looking forward to being dressed and outside before 7AM.

Usually after school starts, the bus schedule adjust to what really is happening and she is picked up at 7:10am and back at 2pm.

There's a bus driver shortage and last year was hit or miss on schedule. I hate that too. But the savings on gas is great.

By Reeciecup on Friday, August 3, 2007 - 08:52 am:

I'm lucky. My dd's school is 5 minutes from my office so I get to drive her to school every day. She has to be there by 8:10 am.

By Happynerdmom on Friday, August 3, 2007 - 09:48 am:

The High School starts at 7:20, the bus picks up here at 6:45.

By Dawnk777 on Friday, August 3, 2007 - 10:32 am:

Wow, my kids are lucky. They didn't have to be UP, until 6:45 and I drove them to school at 7:30, for their 8:00 start time!

By Bellajoe on Friday, August 3, 2007 - 10:53 am:

School is at 9-3.

The bus picks them up at 8:15 and drops them off around 3:45.

This is for elementary school kids.
