Anyone been through this? (female health issues)

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive August 2007: Anyone been through this? (female health issues)
By Christylee on Sunday, July 29, 2007 - 01:07 am:

Three months ago I went in for my annual pap and got a call that I needed to come in and do a repeat in 3 months because they'd found abnormalities. Now here we are 3 months further down the line and I've just had a SECOND pap come back as abnormal.

I'm freaked out, I've got an appointment at the gyn for Thursday but I've been loosing sleep with worry over this. Cancer runs in BOTH sides of my family, my mom's mom had ovarian or cervical (I can't rememeber which) and my dad's mom died from breast cancer in 1975.

They didn't give me much indication of what I could expect at the appointment or really what I'm dealing with. Has anyone been there or gone through what I'm going through? WHat should I ask/know for the appointment, what shoudl I expect to happen at the appointment?

Also a few prayers would be much appreciated!

Prayers are on their way!

I have only had one pap come back abnormal, but the repeat was normal. Don't have any other info for you, just best wishes and hugs. Let us know how the appointment goes.

No experience with this. Just letting you know I just said a prayer for you and your child.

I know you are worried, but try not to freak out just yet. My sister went through that, for several years actually. It could be cervical dysplasia or some other conditions.

My sister went through the freezing thing several times - this was a number of years ago and she has been fine, with normal paps since then.

I know it's hard not to worry, but ask a lot of questions (please read the info on the link I provided - read all the way through - it will help you with what questions to ask - make a LIST!), do what you need to do to treat it, and at that point, when you have a solid answer, then you deal with it. I don't mean to sound harsh, but you have to know exactly what you're dealing with.

Many {{{{{{{{{{{{HUGS}}}}}}}}}}}, and sending positive thoughts and prayers your way.

hmmm, no, I havent been through this. I know my sis had to have some freezing done of some spots that *could have turned cancerous in the future*???

(((Hugs))) Praying for you!

I have not been though this before, but I do want you to know that you are in my prayers and I sincerely hope that time flies, Thursday gets here fast for you, and everything turns out to be just fine.

I have had this issue - They did a colposcopy and found some HPV leasions. They recommended the freezing - and I put it off. Then, I had no more abnormal paps. The doc did say it culd resolve itself. Some dr.s are more cautious than others and recommend removal right away.
Good luck and don't worry. Whatever it is it is treatable.
Going anon because this is a sensitive thing.

My MIL had this problem recently. I think 3-4 abnormal paps over a year and they simply could not find a reason for them. She's fine and I think her last one came back normal. ((HUGS)) I'm sure you're worried, but try to hang in until you find out more.

Twice. Both times were nothing. The first time they took a little biopsy and decided the cells changing was normal. The second time (years later) they did the biopsy and decided it was pre-cancerous and we did the freezing thing. Next pap was fine. That was several years ago. I think having an abnormal pap is fairly common and often nothing.

I went through this a few years ago.. Make sure you take some advil before you go in. They just took a small biopsy, but you probably don't want to plan a lot of physical activity after the appt. I know I just wanted to lay around.

Good luck.

Thank you all for the prayers and sharing your experiences with this. I had the biopsy yesterday and have to wait 10-14 days from Monday before I find anything out. I'll let you guys know once I hear anything.
