As some of you may remember a few weeks back I posted about my daughter going on a People to People trip this summer. Well, she left yesterday and is now in Paris. Last I heard they had landed in Frankfurt Germany with a connecting flight to Paris to arrive in the morning. So, she definitely should be there by now and probably on top of the Eiffel Tower! I'm so proud of her but scared to death at the same time. Keep her in your thoughts and prayers, her name is Courtney. She is traveling with 42 other delegates so keep them in your thoughts also. Thanks ladies!

By Dawnk777 on Tuesday, July 10, 2007 - 08:36 am:

One of those other delegates is a boy that goes to my church, named Sam! They must be on the same trip! A couple of other kids from Sheboygan were going too! I hope they have fun!

This is a local delegation but I'm sure there are many People to People delegations. I know that is is a nationwide program. I know they will have an amazing time! I would love to be there!!!!

I stand corrected. The boy I referred to earlier, hasn't left yet! LOL! We saw him at Applebee's tonight! Whoops. He leaves tomorrow!

Can't wait to hear all about her trip!

Has your daughter returned?

By My2girlygirls on Sunday, July 22, 2007 - 09:49 am:

No not yet. She will return on July 28th. She is starting to get a bit homesick. I talked to her yesterday and she cried a bit. She said that it is so beautiful there. They moved onto to Italy a few days ago and she said that Italy is prettier than Paris and the food is better. I think that they are all exhausted, a typical day for them begins at 7am and they go go go all day until after they eat dinner when they get back to the hotel and then they kind of hang out until bed check at 10pm. So, I know I wouldn't be able to keep up that pace. I told Courtney to not worry about what everyone is doing in the hotel at night, if she's tired just go to bed. They were going to be able to sleep in a bit this morning before heading to the beach for a day of relaxing.
Thanks for asking!

Poor kid! Traveling like that, and that far away is exhausting!!! Glad to hear she is doing ok overall and will be home soon. Being homesick is certainly understandable...I hope she is taking a lot of pictures.

My spanish teacher and her husband spent one month in Italy. She said it was absolutely wonderful. Her parents are Italian, but she was born here in CR. She had some great stories to tell about it. I am glad your dd is getting to see/experience it!!! :)

I talked to Courtney again today and she was in great spirits. She was able to sleep in yesterday until 8am and then they hung out at the beach in Sicily. So I think that enabled her to get some well needed rest. They are heading to Mount Etna to climb the volcano and study a little bit about volcanos. She is excited about it. Then it's on to Malta for a 3 day home stay and then she will be home on Saturday. I know she has had the time of her life. She told me today that she has taken about 500 pictures!! and still has 5 days to go!!!!!!!

By Conni on Monday, July 23, 2007 - 10:08 pm:

Oh my goodness...that sounds so wonderful!! I am so happy for her. Can't wait to see some of her pic's!

By My2girlygirls on Saturday, July 28, 2007 - 09:23 am:

Courtney is coming home today!!!! I'm so excited! I can't wait to see her and hear all of her stories and look at the 500 or more pics that she has taken on this trip!

By Bobbie~moderatr on Saturday, July 28, 2007 - 10:36 am:

Safe travels.... And we want to see pictures too.. Not 500, but the good ones.. LOL

My daughter just received an invitation to do a People to People Trip to Europe next summer.

Pros, cons anyone?

I'll probably go to the meeting and see what happens.

Any ball park figures of cost until then??

Thanks in advance.

Courtney had a blast! It was such a wonderful experience. Courtney says Pros- learning lots of great things and seeing lots of beautiful sights, the home stay was great and gaining independence and building self confidence. Cons- traveling on a daily basis gets harder as the trip goes on (hotel moving), jet lag, and homesickness (don't worry, you can call home) and lastly finding room in the suitcase for all of the souveniers.
Courtney went to France,Italy and Malta for 3 weeks and the cost was about $6000 but that includes airfare, all food (they ate well) and hotels (most of them 3-4 star hotels). The cost would vary depending on where they go. Courtney raised about $1000 on her own, she wrote letters to local businesses and asked for donations and babysat. I think it was well worth the money. Don't let the cost be your deciding factor. It really is a wonderful experience.

I think it would be a fantastic experience for any child! Glad she enjoyed herself...will you be posting any pics? :-)
