That is awful.

And this is the other side of the story.

If you are going to boycot the circus, in my opinion you should also boycot the zoo, and place that has a petting zoo, ponies to ride, etc.

Well, let's face it - it's PETA. PETA is the organization that got the contract for several communities in a southern state and the kill rates skyrocketed. PETA felt that the animals were "better off dead", even when they were totally adoptable. PETA vans were found with the drugs for euthanizing animals in the vans, even though those drugs are, by law, only to be used by veterinarians.

PETA is also the organization that had a representative in a radio interview about a proposed law in a California city to ban and confiscate all "pit bulls". The PETA representative said the confiscated dogs should be immediately euthanized, for their own good. the SPCA representive said the dogs should be tested for aggressive behavior and those that were adoptable should be held for adoption. So who cares more about animals?

By Colette on Thursday, June 21, 2007 - 07:06 pm:

Not a big PETA fan here.

By Tonya on Thursday, June 21, 2007 - 07:10 pm:

What a joke. I have been behind the scenes at the BB circus and they treat their animals with great respect.

By Yjja123 on Thursday, June 21, 2007 - 07:23 pm:

I absolutely detest PETA!
I have worked at the SPCA and for various animal rescue associations. They definitely care more about animals than PETA. The difference is they are not relying on negative publicity to reach their goal of helping animals.
Negative publicity seems to be PETAS agenda. I do not think PETA is portraying an accurate description of the Ringling Bros Circus.

While I'm not a PETA fan, I'm certainly not a circus fan either. I've seen animals treated badly at circus', and I won't take my kids to them.

By Nicki on Thursday, June 21, 2007 - 08:07 pm:

Ditto, Breann.

By Bellajoe on Thursday, June 21, 2007 - 10:47 pm:

I am not a PETA fan at all either, i want to make that clear. They are nuts.

I just know what I saw on the video.

It looked mean. Why were the elephants shackled? Their legs were cut. Why did they take the baby elephant away from the mother when they should be bonding like they would in teh wild.

And, that baby elephant drowned in the water. What's up with that?

I have gone to the circus and have taken my kids to the circus. I'm not really a big fan of them, and probably won't take my kids again just because it's not worth the price of admission.
I do feel bad for the animals being so couped up all the time, and i'm sure they are not treated greatly. But maybe it's not quite as bad as that article said.
