Inventions/ideas/patents

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive June 2007: Inventions/ideas/patents
By Kaye on Monday, June 11, 2007 - 03:19 pm:

Anyone in the know here? I have an idea, that I think would sell, very simple. However it uses an existing product, but reshaped for my purpose. I am sure the initial product has a patent on the design. So how would I go about this?

How do I ask questions about my idea and then not lose licensing rights?

The reality is my idea is a very simple thing, something that would be sold relatively cheap, but possibly in large quantities. So I was just curious how I get started in this!

I think I'd first check with the Patent Office. If it is using an existing product, I don't see how you can patent it as your own.

There is a great website http://www.mominventors.com/ that deals with all aspects of inventing/patening/selling.

Good luck! I have some experience with this as well, so let me know if I can be of direct help.

I will ask my oldest son, who has several patents, and his father, who also has several patents, how you go about this. If you e-mail me, I will send their responses directly to you. Use my Momsview contact e-mail and it will get to my personal inbox.
