The Count of Monte Cristo

Moms View Message Board: Books, Movies and TV Shows: The Count of Monte Cristo

I am currently reading this and am really enjoying it. My older kids think there is something wrong with me because I'm reading the 1200+ page unabridged version for pleasure. LOL

I'm curious if anyone else has read it and what you thought. :)

I love love love that book! Great characters, great story!

And just an FYI for your kids... as a huge Stephen King fan, I've read his 1400 page unabridged The Stand FOUR times... and the whole SEVEN BOOK SERIES of The Dark Tower twice. I'm actually thinking about reading it again! All seven!

And when you're done with that, you can read The Three Musketeers, also by Dumas, and the sequel - Twenty Years After ??? Both absolutely marvelous.

This is my FAVORITE book of all time!! I've read it about 3 times (the same unabridged version you have, LOL), only because it's so long or it would have been more. I'm actually between books/authors right now and was just thinking of pulling it out to read again. (I have a well dog-eared copy of my own.) I absolutely love the Count of Monte Cristo.

I haven't read the books you mentioned Ginny, although I should. When I worked at a bookstore in college, a co-worker highly recommended "The Count" and that was my main reason for trying it.

I have become completely engrossed in this book. When I'm not reading it, I'm thinking about it and counting down the hours to when I can read it again. LOL I am a little more than half way through and the story is moving so quickly that it doens't feel nearly as long as it is. I'm so glad I bought it rather than borrowed it from the library. I could definitely see myself reading this again.

The Three Musketeers is on my list to read, along with Twenty Years After and The Man in the Iron Mask. I have a feeling this is going to be a very good book year for me! :)
