"The Last Straw" by Jeff Kinney

It just came out this past week (the 13th I think.)

My Ds (11yrs old, 5th grade) really enjoys this series. This is the third book (well, there was another one in between the last one and this one, but it was a "Do It Yourself" diary, prompts to write about yourself, etc, so I'm not couting it.) Thee books are called "graphic novels" meaning they're very similar to cartoons (at least parts of them are.)

I read the authors info, and he promises 5 in total, 7 if he doesn't run out of material.

My son has never liked reading, until recently, but this book has been touted as the way to get reluctant out of the term 'reluctant readers'.

Anyway, just thought if you have boys in this age group, you might want to check out this series.

Harlena,

Right on choice. My little guy has never read these before. While we were getting one of them at the library, one of his fellow co-horts came in and gave him a complete rundown on why he will like them. Also that the 3rd book allows you to write your own diary contributions. They then moved on to other books they have enjoyed and why they like them. Our own bibliophiles - it was fun to watch. Thanks for the suggestion/post.

I just reread this and realized Harlena we now buy (not just take out from the library) these books. My little guy actually dragged me over to a bookstore rack to show me one we haven't read during vaction. We've gone through a number of them since you suggested them.

Thanks again.
