I love watching the Food Network. If anyone watches Iron Chef can you answer this question for me? Do the chef's have time to confer with their sous chefs before starting the challenge? It seems they just jump into cooking; how do they know who is doing what?
I know silly question, but it is in my mind everytime I watch the show...:)

I really have no idea. That shows too stressful for me! LOL!

I saw a special about Iron Chef and they said the chefs are given TWO secret ingredients... they just don't know which until they get there, but they are prepared for either of them.

Thanks you Angela. It has been driving me crazy!

LOL... it drove me crazy for a long time too! I always said to my DH... "Look at everyone run! How can they do that when they just found out what the ingrediant is! Don't they need time for a group meeting to discuss the menu?"

By Angellew on Monday, August 4, 2008 - 04:44 pm:

"A Food Network spokesperson tells us that the chefs are given a list of five ingredients in advance, knowing only that the secret ingredient will be taken from that list. We're told that this was the practice on the original "Iron Chef" as well as "Iron Chef America."

That doesn't mean it's a cakewalk, though. Chefs have to plan multiple recipes for each ingredient. Sometimes, especially on the original show, the ingredient is some form of live fish, which must be killed on-air. Yet the chefs have to produce a variety of dishes as well as often desserts."

I was wrong... it was FIVE possibles! I love the show! I think Alton Brown is a cutie!

I love watching Alton Brown. I like Barefoot Contessa and Paula Deen, too. It does inspire me to cook more.
