Hey, NASCAR fans

Moms View Message Board: Books, Movies and TV Shows: Hey, NASCAR fans
By Ginny~moderator on Saturday, June 2, 2007 - 02:48 pm:

Sharon McCrumb has written her second book about NASCAR - Once Around the Track - about a male driver with an all female pit crew. I'm not a NASCAR fan, but I am a Sharon McCrumb fan, and I had already enjoyed her St. Dale (yes, that's the one she means), so I borrowed it from the library. It's about NASCAR, the backstage stuff, the mechanics, the details, and about the people, and is all in all a good read - especially if you are a NASCAR fan, and even if you're not.

Never heard of her! I'll check it out!

Lisa, I am about as far from being a NASCAR fan as one can be and still live in the U.S. I first came to McCrumb through her science fiction humor books, "Zombies of the Gene Pool" and "Bimbos of the Death Sun". Having enjoyed those, I was willing to give her Applachian series and Elizabeth McPherson mystery series a try, and have enjoyed all of them. I was very pleasantly surprised to find that I enjoyed St. Dale when I got into it and realized it was about NASCAR. I think it says a lot about McCrumb as a writer than she can write a book focused on something I know nothing about and care nothing about, and I read it through to the end and enjoy it enough to recommend it to others.

Elizabeth McPherson sounds familiar- I think I heard about the series from my grandma, who really enjoys mysteries.

Thanks, Ginny!
