Andrea Yates

Moms View Message Board: The Kitchen Table (Debating Board): Andrea Yates
By Kaleighsmommy on Thursday, January 6, 2005 - 04:45 pm:

What do you think about the judge overturning the conviction on the Andrea Yates case? In case you don't know who that is, she's the one that drowned all 5 of her children one by one in the bathtub. She got sentenced to life in prison but now they're saying that the prosecution's expert witness gave false testimony about an episode of Law and Order. Supposedly, she watched an episode of Law and Order about a woman who got off for drowning her children by pleading insanity and then drowned her own children. Now they're saying episode never existed. Well, it doesn't matter, she still murdered 5 children!!!! I just wanted to know your thoughts on the subject.

I definitely saw that episode of law and order... Maybe they put it out after she drowned her kids...

Why did she get off?

I think this may be better suited for our debate board, I wouldn't be surprised if it ends up there. Personally, I don't care if she is insane, if she thinks she is a frog, if she thinks God talks to her through Law and Order. I've seen many, many, many TV shows like that (NYPD blue, L&O, whatever!) and none have made me even think about drowning my kids. I'm outraged by her conviction being turned over, and I think she should stay right where she is. I've struggled with post-partum, and depression, but I've gotten help. It's not like she quickly killed the 5 children in a fit of hysteria or rage, she methodically drowned them, and some of them were quite old enough to fight, so it couldn't have been an easy process. Sick, sick, sick... JMHO! And Feona, it's likely they put that episode out after the case started, because Law and Order is supposed to be "ripped from the headlines".

I'm moving this to the debate board.
