Do you think Bill is helping/hurting Hillary?

Moms View Message Board: The Kitchen Table (Debating Board): Do you think Bill is helping/hurting Hillary?

Do you think the campaigning that Bill is doing is helping or hurting Hillary?

The reason I ask about him is that to be honest, he is the only one I ever hear about. They don't show speeches that other candidates spouses are doing on my news channels at night. I got to thinking that with him being the only one shown on the news, it should be helping her. But from most of the discussions I hear and what I see on the news, most of his comments they show seem to be turning people off. Right now, I think he is hurting her.

I don't mean for this to turn into a bash Hillary post. I don't care for her and I won't be voting for her, I just find it interesting that as much press time as he gets, in my eyes, it seems to be hurting her and wondered if anyone else thought so too?

LOL, I am ahead of my time. LOL This was just talked about on the Today show at about 7:45! LOL 2 of the 3 "experts" they had on said he is now hurting her and needs to take it down and notch.

I have made up my mind that I will not vote for Hillary in Pennsylvania's primary, because I don't want to be voting for "Billary". I like Hillary Clinton, and her ideas. However, I've finally sorted out in my own mind that we have one President, and a Vice President, and there is no Constitutional room for Bill - and I can't imagine him not trying to be involved in policy decisions. It won't matter to me if he takes it down a notch or not, though I do believe his recent activities have not helped Hillary.

While I think very highly of Obama, I'd really rather see Edwards at the top of the ticket, because I like his positions better and, quite honestly, I think there are too many people in this country who will vote against a person of color simply because s/he is a person of color (just as there are too many who will vote against a woman simply because of her gender).

I quite honestly agree. Better for the position or not, I will be surprised if the presidency isn't filled by a traditional candidate.

Add Al Sharpton to those that are saying he needs to back off and be quiet. He was on The View today. I didn't hear it word for word, but someone made reference to the fact that he is also hurting her because it is obvious that he will be too involved in everything. He can't back down and get out of the spotlight. People don't want a dual presidency.... interesting...

I don't know if I totally agree with this or not. I have seen some polls (and I know they are not always accurate) and while that might be true for older people, the polls I see say that younger people (say 40ish and under) don't see race/gender as an issue at all. I bet it comes down to what age group has the most voters if race/gender is a big issue or not.

Wouldn't it make sense if that really was the case that Edwards would be winning right now? Someone is voting for Hillary and Obama and race/gender doesn't seem to be effecting it now? Why would people vote for them now if it is a issue and take the chance that they are the ones that win only to not vote for them on election day?

Honestly I think there are some republicans voting in democratic primaries to push the "unwinable" democratic candidates.

The biggest issue I think that the dems have is there candidates all have issues with some "untradional" presidental things. Woman, black and edwards has the wife with cancer.

Edwards was going to get my vote until I found about his wife. I watched my dad lose two wives to cancer and he wasn't capable of paying his bills, much less run the nation. My dad was one of the top 10 strategist in the army at one point couldn't think straight. Losing a life partner is a terribly hard thing to do, and cancer makes it much harder. So I just can't risk that in my mind.

I think so. Somewhere along the line I heard that if Hillary were elected the same two families will be leading our country for nearly a 25 year span and there are term limits in our country so there isn't any type of dictatorship. Bill being around seems to spotlight that issue for me. I could care less about race, gender or religion I just want someone who is on the same side as I am and no one fits my views completely. I don't think I really fit Democrat or Republican. I wish everyone got the same amount of coverage.

I think that he is hurting her as well. I don't think that he CAN stay out of it, and it would indeed be a "duel" presidency, just as it was when HE was President. Hence, Hillary's endless comments about her "thirty five years of experience". I do believe, that at times, she MAY have been the unofficial "president" because he was too busy with his "extra cirricular" activities.
I think that he has said some very rude things about Obama (such as Obama's platform is a "fairy tale"). At least Obama has displayed class and decorum when the Clintons are slinging mud at him. I thought it was very astute of him, during one of the debates when Hillary said something about how her husband's policy on a certain issue was not hers. Obama said "Sometimes I forget who I am running against". Very classy, in my opinion.

Even though I detest Hillary AND Bill, I too, don't want to make this a Hillary bash. However, I think that the Clintons are a very power hungry couple that love the limelight. I think that we have had enough of both the Clintons and the Bushes.

I, too, am apprehensive about John Edwards as President because of his wife's illness. And, if her time is limited, you would think that he would want to spend as much time as possible with her, and not out on the campaign trail.

As far as the race/gender issue, I don't believe that it IS an issue. With the major problems facing our country, (the war, economy, terrorism), we need a President who wants to be President for what they can DO for America. Not just to be the "first" female President, or the "first" African-American" President. I am afraid, tho, that the American electorate can be very blind, too, when it comes to that. Some women will vote for Hillary, some African Americans will vote for Obama, some Evangelicals will vote for Huckabee, some Mormons will vote for Romney, just because of that, and not for their qualifications.

I have never, in my almost forty years of voting, ever voted for a Democrat. However, it is just because the Democratic candidates that were running didn't not appeal to me as individuals; not because they were Democrats.

I do find it interesting that Edwards espouses universal healthcare, because it is popular issue. However, he has made a great deal of wealth suing doctors and healthcare facilities.

I stand by my choice of Romney. I am not a Mormon. I just believe that he is the most qualified for the job.

I just read on the AP that Edwards has dropped out of the race, so now it is Obama or Clinton.
