Cleaning around a 3 yo

Moms View Message Board: Get Organized: Cleaning around a 3 yo
By Marg on Saturday, January 17, 2004 - 06:32 pm:

Honestly, I never had this much difficulty with my other two. But my 3 yo is like glued to me. I am with her 24/7. Yes, here of lately she wakes up in the middle of the night 2 or 3 times. So yes, it is 24/7 mom on call.

Anyway, I can not get anything done around here. What I am doing she thinks she should do:( It's getting very stressful.

Any suggestions... No, she won't take a nap, watch tv or play with something.

Do I have to place her in her room just to get something done?

It's been a long day.

My son is like that. I thought I was the only one.

He love computer games. Does she like computer games?

Feona, I think the only thing my 3 yo like to do is drive me nuts! I don't know whether to lol at that one or not, since Friday it has been really bad!

Do you do anything else that helps?

I have him in preschool three hours a day so I can clean the house and go for a walk. I gave up on cooking along time ago.

I buy alot of craft kits and mess stuff like that to keep him occuppied.

I heard gifted children often are like this.

I gave mine a rag and made them help...LOL. Certainly my home wasn't perfect, but even with a 3 year old attached to my hip, I can pick up, and mop. I did have to sweep after he went to bed. As for cooking, well I don't do much of that, but I did often sit him down with a tub of beans and some measuring spoons, or something like that. He loved it.

I know exactly how you feel! My 3 yr old is the same way. He will watch TV if I sit with him to watch it or he will play if I play with him, but when I am trying to get stuff done, he falls to peices if he doesn't help me! He has to do what I am doing. If I wash dishes he has to have one side of the sink so he can wash his cups, or if I am folding clothes he has to sit on the bed and "help". I takes me twice as long with his "help". But thats ok he is sweet for wanting to help. It really use to get on my nerves, still does sometimes, but luckly my husband does alot of the work around the house with me. So we get it done, one way or another.

I guess I was lucky. My kids had their times when they wanted to "help" and times when they were pefectly happy to play by themselves.
