Ok ladies we are now planning the wedding, reception and honeymoon. We are going to fly out on 10/12/07 in AM to Vegas, getting married in PM of 10/13/07 partying that night in Vegas, everyone is flying home in early PM of 10/14/07 except for us and we are trying to come up with somewhere to honeymoon that we can take the rental car to and then fly home on for 10/19/07 for reception on 10/20/07 at home in MI. Has anyone ever been to Tahoe and how far is it from Vegas? I am googling it right now but figured why not ask ladies who might have been there. We are getting a rental car so we thought get it for a week instead of just the weekend and take it to Tahoe. Thanks ladies.

We go to Tahoe all the time. I am not sure how far it is from Vegas, but if I'd be happy to share with you what I know about the area if you decide it's not too far.

It is only 10 hrs not to far. And with it being a honeymoon spending a day in the car driving and site seeing an area we have never been to will be fun. Info away please Melanie.

You need to figure out which side of the lake you want to be on-CA or NV. It is truly two very different experiences. The NV side is filled with casinos and such whereas the CA side is more about outdoor activities. However, given the time of year, it can be pretty chilly so perhaps the draw to outside activities is diminished.

You also need to determine what kind of lodging you want. There are a ton of rentals in the area and since it is between seasons (summer and winter are in high demand, but autumn doesn't have a lot going on) you can probably get a decent rate. If you decide you want a regular hotel, the Hyatt in South Lake Tahoe is very nice. The spa is wonderful and even has a pool that you enter from inside the hotel and swim outside. We loved that when we were there in the middle of a huge snowstorm!

There is quite a bit of entertainment on the Nevada side in the casinos. Check out the websites to see who will be featured when you are there.

I have to run and pick up my kids but I will think about what else I should tell you. :)

Any ladies in the Vegas area or CA give me some ideas of things we could do in both areas please. Looking to stay in the West for the honeymoon and never been there not sure what to do or where to go. Thanks ladies!!

I have never been. However we traveled with a family last week that LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Tahoe... They talked it up so much while we were on vaacation with them that I would love to go there if I had the chance. lol I think if you go there, you will have plenty of things to do.

Wish I could help more.

As for Vegas, I have never been there either, but cant imagine being bored there. :)

I think you have picked 2 great locations for your wedding and honeymoon.

Cant wait to see pics! :)

I'm in CA and only a few hours from Vegas but I've never been so I'm afraid I'm not much help. We love Tahoe but it's been a few years since we've been up there. Melanie is a much better source of info. We've only stayed on the CA side but I really love it there.

Also check out the ski area websites since they tend to have concerts and such to keep attendance up during the off season. Squaw Valley is a particularly good one. Squaw also has year round ice skating and a restaurant at the top of the gondola with beautiful views.

The Vegas area has tons to offer. Go to lake Meade. Rent jet skis, and tour the shoreline on your own. Take a sunset dinner cruise on the lake. Tour Hoover Dam. Pack a picnic lunch and drive through Fire Valley and Red Rock Canyon. Drive to Rhyolite Ghost town and pass the bottle house. Don't forget to go to Virginia City if you stay in Reno.
