Outdoor Carpet on Swingset Deck--Good Idea/Bad Idea?

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion Archive: Archive March 2006: Outdoor Carpet on Swingset Deck--Good Idea/Bad Idea?

We have a new wooden swingset (bought used, three years old) and I have some new green indoor/outdoor carpet. I want to put it on the tower 'deck' of the swingset. It looks nice and it's a tad more comfy than the planks. Not a whole lot, mind you, this is the traditional green scratchy stuff, but it's really not that scratchy I discovered. Anyway, do you think that's a bad idea? Will the dew and such get the boards wet and then they will be unable to dry with the carpet on top? Or will the carpet keep it from getting wet in the first place? Has anyone ever done this? It's loose, not nailed on or anything. If a heavy rain comes we can pull it up and hang to dry. Advice?

If it is not stuck down then I say go for it the more comfort the better. Just don't make it permenant to the boards you will have to pull it up to dry when it is wet for sure.

Go ahead--that is exactly what we did. I bought an outdoor rug and put it in the playhouse. It dries fast here in Florida. You could get 2 mats and switch them out when one needs to be cleaned.

Why not? I can't see it hurting anything. :)
