Honda Pilot or Toyota Highlander??

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion Archive: Archive March 2006: Honda Pilot or Toyota Highlander??

I thought someone here had a Pilot or Highlander? Not sure but if you do, just wondering how you like it? TIA
Thinking about purchasing, haven't test drove but would love reviews.

I haven't driven either, but absolutely love Toyota. My sister drove her Corolla for over 15 years (bought used) and it never gave her any problems. I've had my Sienna for almost 8 years and, again, no problems. I am a loyal Toyota consumer. :)

We have the Honda Pilot and LOVE it. Have had it for over 3 years and never been in the shop except for oil changes etc. No complaints at all from us! Honestly, I don't think you could go wrong with either one. We had a Toyota Camry before we got this and that thing lasted for ever and ever too.

By Shellyg on Friday, March 24, 2006 - 05:31 pm:

I have two friends who just bought the Honda Pilot, they both LOVE it!

I'm like Melanie and tend to be Toyota loyal. :) However, I totally agree with Vicki. I don't think you could go wrong with Honda. (DH is Honda loyal. LOL!) In this case I'd have to compare each vehicle, check ratings and reliability and test drive each one before deciding. Do you get Consumer Reports? I'll look up what they have to say about these two and post back later.

My neighbor has a Pilot and loves it. She let me use it one day when our van wouldn't start. It drove great. Another friend of ours has one too and loves it. I am getting one in the Fall!!

I have a Toyota Sienna now. I have had it for 8 yrs. Last month when the starter went out was the first problem we ever had with it. That is great considering it has 98,000 miles on it.

I agree with everyone above, you can't go wrong with Toyota or Honda.

Well, I guess I better start shopping for the best deal! I was at my mechanic and she highly recommened it also.
Hey Debbie,
Maybe we should go in together and get a discount..lol :)

By Debbie on Friday, March 24, 2006 - 09:54 pm:

Stori, LOL, I wish it worked that way. We are waiting for Fall when the 2007 model comes out, we're hoping we can get a deal on a 2006.

We were in the exact same situation in January. We went with the Highlander...it drove like a car. We felt the Pilot drove like a big ol' suburban. If you have 3 or 4 kids, then the Pilot would be good. Otherwise, I would stick with the Highlander. I also liked the interior better in the Toyota. Toyota's are known for their reliability too.

I think they are both great cars. Definitely drive them. The honda does drive a little more like a truck than the toyota. I have a friend with a pilot. It has good space, for long trips if you have lots of stuff you can't really use the third row for seating, the behind the 3rd seat is limited.

I'm a die hard Honda fan. Nothing wrong with Toyotas - they are so similar, they could practically be the same vehicles. It's just a matter of personal taste. I've been wanting a Honda Pilot for a few years, and wouldn't you know it, my best friend just bought one around Christmas. HOWEVER - I refuse to pay $700 a month for a car note!!!!!!!!!!! DH and I both own 1998 Honda Accords - his has 110,000 miles on it, mine has just over 90,000 on it. We intend to drive them for a few more years. (It's great not having car notes!) We will probably end up getting a CR-V instead of a Pilot, simply due to the cost, AND the fact that we just love Hondas - this is the 2nd Honda for both of us. VERY reliable vehicles if you have the regular maintenance done on them.

Karen, Who has a $700 dollar car payment?! Yikes! That's insane!

Just looked in the recent Consumer Reports Annual Auto Issue. No surprise that both the Hylander and Pilot are recommended. :) The Highlander rated slightly higher in reliability.

By Truestori on Sunday, March 26, 2006 - 10:53 pm:

Thanks everyone! The Pilot is pricey, but I do know how to haggle, and plan on keeping it for awhile. I like the Toyota Highlander but with a daughter who is bigger than me, we need room! LOL
I love my minivan but was informed last week that minivans are OUT MOM!! Had to laugh at that.

By Conni on Monday, March 27, 2006 - 08:47 am:

LOL Stori!!! about the van comment. If I were choosing between the two vehicles you are looking at I would choose the one with more room The Honda Pilot. Plus I just think the Pilot is really sharp looking. And that's coming from someone who loves Toyota. :) LOL

Good luck and have fun shopping!
