How do you clean your computer keyboard???

Okay I have that air spray can by keyboard needs more that. It franky looks nasty. I was thinking I could use a q-tip to get down between the keys. But what on the q-tip? Is there some kind of safe cleaner? I am probably asking a question that is obvious if so forgive my duh moment.

Thanks

Turn the keyboard upside down and shake it vigorously, for starters. Then spray some more, holding the keyboard on an angle, and shake again. You can wipe the keys with rubbing alcohol and a paper towel, and use rubbing alcohol on the q-tips, or, which I think is better because I don't want any part of the q-tip coming off inside the keyboard, fold the paper towel a couple of times, so that it fits between the keys, and use rubbing alcohol. It evaporates quickly and won't harm anything.

My son says test the alcohol wipe on one key first, to make sure it doesn't mess with the plastic or the lettering on the keys (like one of the numberic pad keys, if you don't use them often - I don't).

I take one button out at a time...and clean under it lol
I use a q tip only while I have the key out so that I don't get any of it caught in it or anything. It's tedious but it works...

I'm not sure you want to try this but some of the guys on my computer forums swear by popping off all the keys and sticking it in the dishwasher *no soap). Let it dry for a few days then put the keys back on. These guys usually have spare keyboards to use while it's drying.

I turn it upside down and remove the screws that hold the top cover on. Then I take my husband's little air compressor and blow out the dirt and hair and crumbs, etc., and then I take a Lysol wipee and wipe down each row of keys, getting in between them as much as I can.

I have heard that you can put your keyboard in the dishwasher. Don't use powder detergent or really hot water, and allow it to dry for a couple of days. It really works. My super-duper computer science college cousin told me that!

Does it need cleaning?
:)

I spilled some apple juice on my keyboard and kept it going a long time, just cleaning it occasionally with alcohol. I would actually take it all apart, though, so I could really get underneath. Finally something just stopped working and I had to get a new one! I'm always amazed at what comes out of my keyboard when I turn it upside down. Ewww.

I would never put it in the dishwasher. If you take the keys off either one by one or use a picture of a keyboard and take them off by rolls, then use 70% to 90% alcohol to clean each key and under them too. Afterwards spread plastic wrap on just the key area and change as needed. I also put my rmote in freezer bags, then fold in the sides and tape to keep it easier to hold and they keep clean too. Less germs.
